Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Saturday, July 6, 2024. Plus, news on Luis Rengifo and Josh Smith, plus so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report for Saturday, July 6, 2024.

Ketel Marte – 2B Arizona Diamondbacks (back)

Marte left the game in the ninth inning for an injury that’s been there with him for quite a while. It’s unclear if he aggravated it during the game itself, but he is considered DTD. The team also mentioned that he won’t require imaging as of yet. Chances are that he will return in a few days, but a trip to the Injured List is still on the table.

Jose Altuve – 2B Houston Astros (hand)

Altuve was hit on the hand by a pitch last night but was all smiles postgame, leading one to believe that all will be okay with him. While he’s likely avoiding the Injured List, chances are that he will miss a game or two to help manage the swelling if there is any. We shall know more today when he arrives at the ballpark.

Gleyber Torres – 2B New York Yankees

Torres had been dealing with issues in this area of the body for quite some time now, which could be the reason for his struggles at the plate and on the field. One has to wonder if taking some time on the Injured List now and through the All-Star Break would do him wonders for a better second half. Stay tuned.

Jordan Montgomery – SP Arizona Diamondbacks (knee)

While it’s encouraging that Montgomery is set to throw from flat ground, it is a bit worrisome that they are likely rushing him back while he still has inflammation in his knee. Perhaps a restful night will cure everything, but this is a situation to monitor going forward.

Philadelphia Phillies – Team Update

A big announcement here for the Phillies, as Kyle Schwarber (groin) looks just about ready to return and Bryce Harper (hamstring) is likely to do the same shortly afterward. Given the news and their injury history, both seem very likely to be back before the All-Star Break, though nothing is guaranteed.

St. Louis Cardinals – Team Update

Lars Nootbaar (oblique) has gone 6-for-22 with two home runs thus far while rehabbing in Springfield. He does have seven strikeouts, which could contribute to some of the worries about his timing. As for Tommy Edman (wrist), it feels like a big weight has been lifted here, as he is finally ready to begin a rehab assignment. He had been in limbo with constant work on the field on specific things and had not been ready to make the final leap toward a rehab assignment.

Jared Jones – SP Pittsburgh Pirates (lat)

This diagnosis is a lot more serious than the initial assessment both Jones and the team had the night of the injury. There is no guarantee that two weeks will be enough of a shut-down period for him to immediately return, but only time will tell. Either way, it’s a big blow to the Pirates and to fantasy owners.

Luis Rengifo – INF Los Angeles Angels (wrist)

There was no structural damage revealed within the MRI that was administered. It would appear that Rengifo has avoided any serious structural damage here. It seems safe to see him returning just after the All-Star Break.

DL Hall – SP Milwaukee Brewers (knee)

Hall will remain on a rehab assignment in order to get more work in. His last outing was his longest at 61 pitches, but the team wanted him to get more work in, leaning one to believe he will be used as a starter upon his return.

Jason Heyward – OF Los Angeles Dodgers (knee)

Heyward avoided a serious injury with this diagnosis, which is great news for him and the Dodgers. He will still need time to heal, hence the trip to the Injured List. There is no timeline in place for his return here, but the good news is that James Outman will get a chance to play.

Josh Smith – INF Texas Rangers (glute)

Consider Smith DTD for an issue that seems to be a reoccurrence. The hope is that there is nothing more happening here and that he can return within a matter of days.
