MLB Injury Report: All-Star Out in Minnesota

Welcome to the Fantrax MLB Injury Report for Monday, July 15, 2024. In today’s edition, Carlos Correa continues to battle through his ailing foot due to recurring plantar fasciitis, Kyle Tucker’s status gets a vague update, and Juan Soto continues to work through multiple injuries. All of that and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report for Monday, July 15, 2024.

Carlos Correa – SS Minnesota Twins (foot)

This unfortunate development led to him having to bow out of the All-Star Game festivities this week. While it’s good news that the issue is not as serious as last year’s condition, it’s concerning nonetheless due to the amount of time lost while healing. This hasn’t slowed him down, mind you, as Correa has had at least one hit in every game but one since June 26, and has been on fire for quite some time. Here’s to a speedy recovery.

Jose Miranda – 3B Minnesota Twins (back)

Miranda is eligible to return as soon as next Sunday, but there is no guarantee that he does come back at that point.

Devin Williams – RP Milwaukee Brewers (back)

This was everything that the Brewers wanted to see, as Williams struck out the side in his debut appearance for his rehab assignment. It remains unclear if he will stay with the Rattlers or move his assignment up a level of difficulty.

DL Hall – SP/RP Milwaukee Brewers (knee)

It looks like Hall will be returning to the Brewers as a starter, and as such, he will need to get in more work while in his rehab assignment.

Justin Verlander – SP Houston Astros (neck)

The pitch count of 25 was higher than what was originally anticipated so this, alongside the fact that he threw his entire arsenal, is all good news.

Kyle Tucker – OF Houston Astros (shin)

Tucker says here that he was able to move around and throw and will do some more things during the break to get him ready. He was very vague with his usage of the word “stuff” and was quick to dismiss the question of him returning during the first road trip, using the answer of “we’ll see” as a retort. He continued the interview by saying there is some pain in his leg, but that every day he’s able to do a little bit more. He said yes to the question of getting more imaging done to see if there was something more, but really didn’t get into it. Essentially, this still seems like a mystery as to why he is still out, though keep in mind that deep bone bruises do take months to heal.

Jordan Montgomery – SP Arizona Diamondbacks (knee)

Montgomery will likely attempt to increase his pitch count with a simulated game this week. As such, he could be ready to rejoin the club just after the break. Be prepared.

Giancarlo Stanton – OF New York Yankees (hamstring)

There has been some back and forth on exactly when the team expects Stanton to return, though most questions of a rehab assignment had usually been answered with a resounding no. Now it would appear that it is still up in the air. Given Stanton’s history with injuries and Boone’s wavering on decisions in interviews, a rehab assignment seems likely, but right now everything is seemingly on the table.

Juan Soto – OF New York Yankees (hand)

Soto suffered a hand contusion almost three weeks ago and has been playing through the injury. This, alongside early-season forearm inflammation, has been ailing the slugger for a while now, and he has not been near 100% health for quite some time. One has to wonder if this were not a contract year, would he be on the Injured List right now?

Philadelphia Phillies – Team Update

It’s looking like Zack Wheeler (back) won’t pitch again until a week from now, meaning that any teams in weekly leagues will miss his services for the remainder of this week. That said, he will likely be a two-start pitcher next week. As for J.T. Realmuto, his return is likely coming soon enough, just not right away.

Kodai Senga – SP New York Mets (shoulder)

Senga looked fantastic in his latest, and possibly last, rehab start yesterday. He himself said that he felt happy and satisfied with his progress and results. There is a significant chance that we see him return in about a week, but the team will make a decision before then.

TJ Friedl – OF Cincinnati Reds (hamstring)

This would be a big addition to the Reds, who need his services. He may still require a rehab assignment here, but returning in eleven days would be huge.

Los Angeles Dodgers – Team Update

Great news here on Clayton Kershaw (shoulder), as he felt good after his outing on Saturday. Not only did he toss three scoreless innings of work on 38 pitches, he also threw twelve bullpen pitches afterward to bring his total to 50. His workload will be tested in his next start, mind you. As for Jason Heyward (knee), his likely activation could mean a demotion again for James Outman who has struggled upon his return to the Dodgers. Finally, Mookie Betts (hand) is beginning to field groundballs and is seemingly closer to a return than ever. Mind you, he still has a ways to go, as he has about a month left before his likely return.
