Dynasty Baseball Buys and Sells: Jazzin’ It Up

This week’s edition of Dynasty Baseball Buys and Sells involves a trio of players involved in trades. Many players had their dynasty value greatly impacted by switching teams in last-minute deadline deals. Also, one of the hottest hitters in the game, who is likely to cool off soon is a dynasty baseball sell. In case you missed it, you should check out last week’s edition of Dynasty Baseball Buys and Sells.

Dynasty Baseball Buys

Jazz Chisholm Jr., OF, New York Yankees

Chisholm Jr. has always been considered one of the better outfielders in fantasy. However, while in Miami, he never hit above a .255 average or had a 20 home run season. It was partly to blame on his inability to stay healthy, but he was never given a strong supporting cast during his tenure in Miami. Chisholm Jr. has had a clean bill of health all season long and is now in position to unlock his true fantasy potential.

Nobody improved their dynasty value at the trade deadline more than Chisholm Jr. Not only did he go from one of the worst lineups to one of the best, but he also goes from one of the most pitcher-friendly parks to one of the most hitter-friendly parks. In his first four games as a Yankee, he has hit .368 with four home runs, eight runs batted in, six runs scored and one stolen base. Chisholm Jr. could become a fantasy superstar in pinstripes, so it would be wise to consider him a dynasty baseball buy.

Joey Loperfido, OF, Toronto Blue Jays

Loperfido slashed .278/.370/.510 with 25 home runs and 27 stolen bases across three different levels in the minors last season. He has followed that up by slashing .272/.365/.568 with 13 home runs and nine stolen bases in 189 plate appearances at Triple-A this year. Loperfido is prone to striking out quite a bit, which may be a drag on his average, but he has a very intriguing blend of power and speed.

Loperfido was dealt to the Toronto Blue Jays at the trade deadline. He was never able to get consistent playing time with the Astros, but that shouldn’t be an issue in Toronto. The Blue Jays traded Kevin Kiermaier away, which has paved the way for Loperfido to be a regular in the lineup. He becomes a very interesting dynasty target with the move, as he finally gets a chance to put his prolific power and speed on display. He is a strong dynasty baseball buy.

Dynasty Baseball Sells

Tyler Fitzgerald, SS/OF, San Francisco Giants

Fitzgerald has generated a lot of buzz over the past few weeks. He has slashed .340/.411/.900 with eight home runs and 15 RBI in the month of July. The only players who have a higher OPS than Fitzgerald over the last month (with at least 50 at-bats) are Bobby Witt Jr. and Brent Rooker. There have been very few players that have raised their fantasy stock as much as Fitzgerald this month.

Although he had some success in the minors, I don’t think anyone predicted this from Fitzgerald. He is slashing .308/.371/.617 this season. However, his expected slash line is .265/.343/.464, suggesting a big regression could be on the horizon. He struck out at a 28.2% clip for his minor league career. There’s no way Fitzgerald can’t sustain this level of production, so it would be a good idea to think about him as a dynasty baseball sell. He may be able to attract a valuable piece in return given his meteoric rise.

Agustin Ramirez, C, Miami Marlins

Ramirez has worked his way to become one of the top catching prospects in dynasty leagues this year. He has improved his stock by hitting a .271 average with 20 home runs, 70 RBI, 61 runs, and 19 stolen bases across Double-A and Triple-A this season. There are very few catchers with his kind of potential, but a trade deadline move has drastically changed his dynasty value going forward.

Ramirez was dealt to the Miami Marlins as the main piece for Jazz Chisholm Jr. This was a crushing blow to his dynasty value. He was on the cusp of a promotion with the Yankees to hit in one of the best lineups and in one of the most hitter-friendly parks. However, now he goes to hitting in one of the worst lineups and in one of the most pitcher-friendly parks. The counting stats certainly won’t be as good with the new move for Ramirez. I would regard him as a dynasty baseball sell.
