The 2024-25 NBA season is upon us, which means the fantasy basketball season is also upon us. To help you with your fantasy drafts, FantraxHQ basketball writers have compiled a list of the top 200 fantasy basketball rankings for the coming season. Think of it as a jumping-off point for both category and points leagues.
2024 Fantasy Basketball Rankings
Tier 1
1. Luka Doncic (PG – DAL)
1. Victor Wembanyama (PF, C – SA)
3. Nikola Jokic (C – DEN)
Wembymania is already in full gear with the esteemed panel ranking him tied first with the great Luka Doncic. That certainly puts a lot of faith into a player who ranked 18th per game last season. If we’re only counting the games since Wembanyama moved to the center position, we get around 10th in the league. Not counting turnover, we again move up a few spots. Then add natural development to his game and better teammates in San Antonio and we could see him take the spot as the top fantasy player. As far as Doncic and Jokic; they’re much less risky picks but lack the insane upside of Victor Wembanyama.
Tier 2
4. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (PG, SG – OKC)
5. Anthony Davis (PF, C – LAL)
6. Joel Embiid (C – PHI)
7. Giannis Antetokounmpo (PF, C – MIL)
8. Jayson Tatum (SF, PF – BOS)
9. Tyrese Haliburton (PG, SG – IND)
A strong group of fantasy players each of whom could end up as a top 3 fantasy player by the end of the year. A couple of injury risks but players like these could end up deciding your fantasy season for better or worse. Gilgeous-Alexander and Tatum are the safest picks of the group but let’s not forget that Tyrese Haliburton was among the best fantasy players before his injury last year.
Tier 3
10. Donovan Mitchell (PG, SG – CLE)
11. Anthony Edwards (SG, SF – MIN)
12. Stephen Curry (PG, SG – GS)
13. LaMelo Ball (PG – CHA)
14. Trae Young (PG – ATL)
Can Anthony Edwards take the next step? Can Stephen Curry still make it happen at an elite level? Can LaMelo Ball stay healthy? Can Tray Young put up huge stats after the roster clarification in Atlanta?
Tier 4
15. Scottie Barnes (SG, SF, PF – TOR)
16. Kevin Durant (SF, PF – PHO)
Barnes was last year’s big surprise and the hope, here, is that he can keep improving. The hope with Durant is that he can keep on keeping on. The last time he ranked outside the top 10 per game in 9-cat fantasy, Durant was wearing a green jersey. Yeah.
Tier 5
17. James Harden (PG, SG – LAC)
18. Kyrie Irving (PG, SG – DAL)
19. Devin Booker (PG, SG, SF – PHO)
20. Domantas Sabonis (PF, C – SAC)
21. Kawhi Leonard (SG, SF, PF – LAC)
22. Chet Holmgren (PF, C – OKC)
23. De’Aaron Fox (PG – SAC)
23. Jalen Brunson (PG – NY)
25. LeBron James (SF, PF – LAL)
Paul George leaving LA should give more touches to Harden and Leonard, which would generate more fantasy stats. Of course, whether anyone should want Leonard on their fantasy squad is another matter. Kyrie and LeBron will probably fall into the same category – just not quite playing enough to go out of your way to draft. Chet Holmgren, on the other hand, is not as far behind Victor Wembanyama as you’d think.
Tier 6
26. Lauri Markkanen (SF, PF – UTA)
27. Tyrese Maxey (PG, SG – PHI)
28. Damian Lillard (PG – MIL)
28. Paul George (SG, SF, PF – PHI)
30. Dejounte Murray (PG, SG – NO)

Ja Morant should be ready to return after a season of nonsense. Is he a sleeper or a bust though? He’s never had a top 50 fantasy season so beware. Bam Adebayo should be moving nicely into a bigger and bigger role as he’s coming into his prime.
Tier 7
37. Jalen Johnson (SF, PF – ATL)
38. Jalen Williams (SG, SF, PF – OKC)
39. Jimmy Butler (SF, PF – MIA)
40. Cade Cunningham (PG, SG – DET)
40. Jaylen Brown (SG, SF – BOS)
Cade Cunningham should take another big step forward. Jimmy Butler probably a step backwards.
Tier 8

A lot of potential in this tier. Wagner and Banchero so far haven’t just quite exploded, at least not in fantasy terms. Mobley isn’t living up to the Kevin Garnett comparisons. Jamal Murray keeps having only so-so regular seasons. Whoever from here can make the biggest leap could become a fantasy game-changer.
Tier 9
48. Derrick White (SG – BOS)
49. Pascal Siakam (PF, C – IND)
50. Rudy Gobert (C – MIN)
51. Myles Turner (C – IND)
52. Zion Williamson (PF, C – NO)

Out of this group, Bradon Miller is probably the sexiest pick with everyone else being flawed one way or another. Though at this point, picking for team needs is totally reasonable so anyone can be taken here. Mikal Bridges at the New York Knicks has a lot of potential too. By now, everyone should know the deal with Zion Williamson.

Is Kyle Kuzma still the best player in Washington by default? If so, ouch. Tobias Harris back in Detroit might be interesting if he can revitalize himself. No one seems to have much faith in Bradley Beal, which may be a buy-low signal. Trey Murphy is a stathead darling, of course, but limited.

Keyonte George and Brandin Podziemski pop out as the best prospects of this tier. Onyeka Okongwu could be great with more minutes.

Here’s the last tier of players. Some of them will surely have a worthwhile fantasy season but which ones?! All I see are very flawed players, players not getting enough minutes, and, at best, single-category contributors. And, yes, that is Bronny James as the last ranked player, which is probably reflective of his role in this year’s fantasy drafts – someone to take in the last round to make your friends laugh.
