Don’t look now, but the tight end position is starting to show signs of life. George Kittle found the end zone for the third consecutive week, Kyle Pitts’ seven receptions for 88 yards was downright euphoric, and Tucker Kraft looks like he’s here to stay. Oh, and let’s not forget that T.J. Hockenson could return as soon as Week 7. So, as we turn our attention to the Week 6 tight end rankings, savor the moment and keep your fingers crossed that this is the beginning of good things to come for the position.
Tight Ends on Byes in Week 6
Travis Kelce, Colby Parkinson, Jonnu Smith, Johnny Mundt
Injury Notes for Week 6
- T.J. Hockenson tore his ACL last season and could return as early as Week 7. He should be stashed in leagues where possible, as Hockenson would slot in as a TE1 on an undefeated Vikings team that is cruising.
- Evan Engram has missed four weeks recovering from a hamstring injury. Early indications are that he’s expected to play in Week 6 but monitor injury reports throughout the week.
- After missing time with a high-ankle sprain, David Njoku suited up in Week 5. However, he suffered a knee injury and is awaiting results from an MRI exam. His Week 6 status is uncertain.
- Taysom Hill missed Week 5 with fractured ribs, and his status for Week 6 is up in the air. If he’s unable to suit up, Juwan Johnson makes for a decent TE2.
Tight End Notes
Bye Weeks: KC, LAR, MIA, MIN
- It’s time to pay attention to Tucker Kraft. He finished as the position’s TE1 in back-to-back weeks, reeling in a combined 10 catches on 14 targets while racking up 141 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Kraft should continue rolling in Week 6. The Cardinals are a middling defense and just gave up eight receptions, 64 yards, and a touchdown to George Kittle in Week 5. Plus, this matchup has one of the highest expected point totals for the week, and Kraft should continue to get looks. Kraft is one of the biggest risers in the Week 6 tight end rankings and could be a TE1 mainstay moving forward.
- It’s been another frustrating season for Kyle Pitts. While he hauled in seven of eight targets for 88 yards last week, it was the first time that Pitts has seen more than three targets in a game this season. However, I’m willing to take a chance on him in Week 6. Pitts faces a Carolina team that has had trouble containing the pass. The Panthers have ceded the 10th-most receiving yards and fantasy points per game to the position. There’s risk with Pitts, but he’s still the TE11 on the season and has decent upside in the yards-after-catch department. Pitts is a top-eight option in the Week 6 tight end rankings.
- Dallas Goedert was fantastic in his last two games. He gobbled up a combined 17 receptions on 19 targets for a whopping 232 yards. However, that production came while top pass-catchers DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown were injured. Unfortunately for Goedert, both wideouts are expected to return in Week 6, meaning Goedert will likely lose out on target volume. Additionally, the matchup against the Browns is a stingy one. They’ve yet to cede a touchdown to tight ends through five weeks and have allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points. Goedert drops to TE10 in the Week 6 tight end rankings.
- Zach Ertz saw a season-high eight targets last week. While he only caught two of those targets for 10 yards, Ertz should bounce back in Week 6. He gets a favorable matchup against a Baltimore defense that has surrendered the second-most receptions and receiving yards to tight ends this season. They’ve also allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to the position. Ertz’s 17.9% target share on the year is good for second-most on the Commanders, and he should continue to see plenty of looks in what could be a Week 6 shootout. I’m high on Ertz this week as he ranks as a low-tier TE1 in the Week 6 tight end rankings.
