Week 7 Quarterback and Running Back Starts and Sits

With Week 7 on the horizon, the fantasy football regular season will be half over. Last week, I featured some bad misses, like Dak Prescott being a start and finishing as the QB28. There was also Justin Fields being a sit and finishing as a QB1 in Week 6.

For starts, the best one was Caleb Williams as he faced the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. Williams had his very first QB1 overall finish in his young career. I also had Najee Harris as a start, and he finished as an RB1 for the first time this season. Here are the starts and sits for Week 7.

Week 7 Quarterback Starts

Drake Maye vs Jacksonville Jaguars

Drake Maye faced one of the best teams in football in Week 6. Despite that, he still finished as a QB1 against the Houston Texans. In his first-ever start, he was the QB10 and will build on it in Week 7. Maye faces the Jaguars in London, where another rookie quarterback finished as the QB1 overall. Now, my hot take is not QB1 overall, but Drake Maye will have consecutive QB1 finishes to start his promising NFL career.

The Jaguars are at the bottom of the barrel in the NFL. They have allowed the most fantasy ppg to quarterbacks and have given up 14 touchdowns to just ONE interception. Do not hesitate because he is a rookie. Drake Maye is my favorite starts in starts and sits for Week 7.

Justin Herbert @ Arizona Cardinals

Justin Herbert went from being a top-five drafted quarterback to making a starts or sits article in his fifth season. Herbert has not finished as a QB1 once this season, but it changes in Week 7. The Arizona Cardinals have allowed the fourth most fantasy ppg to quarterbacks with 230 ypg (yards per game) and tied for the sixth most touchdowns allowed to the position. Do not expect Justin Herbert to wow you consistently this season, as through six weeks, we have seen those days are over for now. Although the team is a run-heavy team, Herbert will have his best game this season in Week 7 and should be started.

Quarterback Sits

Jalen Hurts @ New York Giants

Jalen Hurts has not lived up to what he did for the past three seasons. He is currently the QB15 in total points and faces the Giants in Week 7. The Giants have only allowed two quarterbacks to finish as a QB1 through six games. This screams revenge game for Saquon Barkley. I know you drafted Jalen Hurts in the first five rounds of your fantasy drafts, but that does not mean he is a must-start. At first, Hurts was, but as time has passed, there might be better options on the waiver wire, like Drake Maye. When I had Anthony Richardson and Patrick Mahomes as sits on starts and sits, it worked out. Here goes to another superstar quarterback making the sits and not living up to their hype.

Sam Darnold vs Detroit Lions

Sam Darnold, through one month of football, was a top-five quarterback. He now faces a tough stretch of football. Before the Vikings bye week in Week 6, Darnold finished as the QB27 against a tough New York Jets defense. Now, he faces the Detroit Lions, who just demolished the Dallas Cowboys worse than genetics did to the hair on my head. Despite losing Aiden Hutchinson, the Lions are just flat-out one of the three best teams in football. I think Sam Darnold can and will still get the Vikings to the playoffs, but the hot sizzle that started might have died down a bit. Pivot towards options for Week 7.

Week 7 Running Back Starts

Tank Bigsby vs New England Patriots

Tank Bigsby is taking the RB1 job from Travis Etienne as every day passes. Bigsby is in the top five in YPC (yards per carry) with a whopping 7.2 ypc. Two weeks ago, Bigsby was the RB1 overall with a 40% snap share. Etienne should miss Week 7, which in turn should lead to Tank Bigsby seeing a target share of 60% or more. I expect Bigsby to find the end-zone and be a top-15 running back in Week 7. This seems like an ugly game in London, but I expect two ugly teams to fight hard for a much-needed win for both sides.

Alexander Mattison @ Los Angeles Rams

Alexander Mattison has outplayed Zamir White. With Zamir White hurt, I just do not see why to even give him the RB1 spot back when he comes back to play. Mattison had his best game of the season against one of the better defenses in the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Davante Adams being traded to the New York Jets, the Raiders are left with Jakobi Meyers as their top option. Alexander Mattison is a great pass-catching running back and saw five catches in Week 6. I expect Mattison to be fantasy-relevant for the rest of the season due to this, and he deserves a spot in your line-ups for Week 7.

Running Back Sits

Aaron Jones vs Detroit Lions

Kenneth Walker dominated the Lions due to his three touchdowns when the Seattle Seahawks faced the Lions earlier this season. The Lions have allowed four total touchdowns to running back this season, and Walker had THREE of those. The Lions are also allowing just 55 rushing ypg and the third-fewest fantasy ppg to the position. Aaron Jones has been dealing with injuries that caused him to miss the Vikings last game. I would keep Jones on the bench this week with a very tough match-up.

James Conner vs Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers have given up 17.66 fantasy ppg to running backs and just two touchdowns. James Conner has been a RB1 in two of the three games he scored a touchdown and was the RB15 in the other game. In games he does not score a touchdown, he has finished as the RB51, RB19, and RB35. With such a terrible defense, I fear the Chargers will jump out to a big lead just like the Green Bay Packers did in Week 6. This will have Kyler Murray having to pass a ton while Conner takes a back seat. I would bench him this week and not worry. With no touchdowns, James Conner is not fantasy-relevant.
