Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Forwards to Consider for Week 4

Mikael Granlund, San Jose Sharks

It is a new season, but the same San Jose Sharks and Mikael Granlund. While the Sharks have played very poorly as a team and are winless, Granlund is once again proving how valuable he is. Someone has to lead on a team this bad and the veteran center is going above and beyond expectations. After only one assist in the first three games, Granlund is up to four goals and six points in nine games. It doesn’t matter what linemates he has, he is going to keep producing like he also did in his first season in San Jose.

Granlund is on a six-game point streak that includes four goals and five assists as well as four multi-point games. He already has six power-play points and 34 shots, but will add a bit of physicality and shot-blocking to the mix as well. Luckily enough, after the Sharks’ game on Monday against the Utah Hockey Club, the team has three more games against the Los Angeles Kings, Chicago Blackhawks, and Vancouver Canucks. Those aren’t bad matchups and Granlund should continue rolling.

Anthony Cirelli, Tampa Bay Lightning

I bet you didn’t have Anthony Cirelli popping off for more than a point per game this early in the season in your projections. The second-line two-way center already has 10 points in eight games, even though only one of the points is a goal. While it’s great when Cirelli is putting up points, he doesn’t shoot a whole lot and isn’t on the top power play. This limits his fantasy hockey potential, but if he’s getting points and your team desperately needs that, strike while the iron is hot.

The Tampa Bay Lightning also play four times this week. Following the Monday game against the Nashville Predators, the Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Wild, and Winnipeg Jets are on tap for the rest of the week.

Casey Mittelstadt, Colorado Avalanche

Casey Mittelstadt is fitting right into the offensive ways of the Colorado Avalanche now that he’s settled in from last season. The second line centerman has five goals and 12 points in nine games. Even though the forward group is depleted, he is finding a way and capitalizing on the power play as well.

Mittelstadt has five power-play points and points in seven of his nine games. To make this potential addition even more enticing, he has one goal and seven points in his last three games. The Avalanche have won five in a row and after playing the Blackhawks, Colorado faces off against the Lightning and Predators.
