At the halfway point of the fantasy football season, there’s a lot to keep track of. Anthony Richardson has played his way to the bench, Matthew Stafford‘s value is on the rise, and Jameis Winston is back in our fantasy lives. Also, let’s not forget that bye weeks start again. That means Brock Purdy and Russell Wilson move to the bye-week shelf in Week 9. To find out which quarterbacks can give you a strong start to the second half, let’s take a look at the Week 9 quarterback rankings.
Quarterbacks on Byes in Week 9

Injury Notes for Week 9
- Jordan Love suffered a groin injury in Sunday’s game and is considered day-to-day. The Packers have their bye in Week 10, so the team could keep Love sidelined for an extra week of rest. If that’s the case, Malik Willis would be the signal-caller against the Lions this week.
- Derek Carr is practicing with the Saints this week and could suit up in Week 9. An oblique injury has sidelined the signal-caller for the past three games. A Carr return would provide a boost to the entire Saints’ offense. UPDATE: Carr is good to go for Week 9.
- Drake Maye is in the league’s concussion protocol and is questionable for Week 9. Jacoby Brissett will get the starting nod if Maye cannot suit up.
- Will Levis missed the last two weeks with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder, and his Week 9 status is up in the air. Mason Rudolph will be the starter if Levis is a no-go.
- It’s unclear whether Bryce Young or Andy Dalton will be under center for Carolina in Week 9. Stay tuned for updates throughout the week. UPDATE: Bryce Young will get the start in Week 9.
Quarterback Notes
Bye Weeks: PIT, SF
- I’m returning to the Bo Nix Well for the second time in as many weeks. Nix finished as QB2 last week against the Panthers, throwing for a season-high 284 yards and scoring a total of four touchdowns. It’s the third time in four weeks that Nix has scored more than 20 fantasy points per game. Up next, Nix has another favorable matchup against the Ravens. Baltimore has surrendered the most passing yards and touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks this season. They’ve also allowed the third-most fantasy points to the position. Jameis Winston had no problem moving the ball against Baltimore’s defense last week, hanging 334 yards and three passing touchdowns on the unit. I expect Nix to have another successful fantasy week and rank him as QB10 in the Week 9 quarterback rankings.
- Matthew Stafford thrived in Week 8 following the return of top wideouts Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua. He finished as fantasy’s QB5, throwing for 279 yards and a whopping four touchdowns. It was the first time Stafford threw for multiple scores the entire season. Stafford should have another strong showing in Week 9 against division-rival Seahawks. Seattle’s defense has been mediocre, allowing opposing quarterbacks to throw for 255-plus yards and multiple touchdowns in four of the last five weeks. With a healthy set of receiving options at his disposal, Stafford should have another productive week. He rounds out the top-12 quarterbacks in the Week 9 quarterback rankings. UPDATE: Nacua is questionable for Week 9 with a knee injury.
- Joe Flacco will be the Colts’ starting quarterback this week, and you shouldn’t shy away from him in fantasy. In three games with Indy this season, Flacco has combined for 716 yards with a 7:1 TD:INT ratio. The veteran is no stranger to racking up touchdowns. Flacco has thrown multiple touchdowns in his last eight games, dating back to Week 13 when he took over the starting gig in Cleveland. Flacco should have no problem continuing his touchdown streak in Week 9. He faces a Vikings defense that has been vulnerable to the passing attack. Minnesota has allowed the fifth-most receiving yards and the fourth-most touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks. They’ve also given up the ninth-most fantasy points to the position. Flacco is a high-end QB2 in my Week 9 quarterback rankings.
- I’m low on Kirk Cousins this week. While he’s coming off his second drubbing of the Buccaneers, Cousins has underwhelmed in his other six starts. In fact, he’s averaging 10.3 fantasy points per game in that six-game stretch, topping 13 fantasy points only once. Cousins has a favorable matchup this week against the Cowboys. But until he can string together a couple of strong performances against opponents not named the Buccaneers, he remains outside my top 15 in Week 9.
