The waiver wire is always filled with hidden gems and players that could benefit your fantasy hockey team for a week or more if you take advantage. In Week 8 there are three interesting choices that, if available, will boost your team in one way or another. All of these forwards have been hot and don’t look to stop anytime soon with the opportunities in front of them. So let’s get into it.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Forwards to Consider for Week 8
Josh Norris, Ottawa Senators
Josh Norris is healthy and playing good hockey. He is also playing in Ottawa’s very skilled top-6 between Claude Giroux and Drake Batherson. This line has done well and so has Norris as he has eight goals and 14 points through 20 games heading into the week. He has four goals and six points in his last seven games and even though the Senators have struggled, the poor play has not come offensively.
Why Norris is a potential score to stream this week is because the Senators play the San Jose Sharks, Los Angeles Kings, and Anaheim Ducks. This is on the easier side of things, especially against bottom-of-the-league teams in San Jose and Anaheim. Norris will shoot, get penalty minutes, and hit, so he covers all bases. He is also a strong scorer and goals are more difficult to come by than assists.
Anthony Cirelli, Tampa Bay Lightning
Anthony Cirelli has been lights out as of late and has had a very underrated season in Tampa Bay. He has had to step up with the departure of Steven Stamkos, even though Jake Guentzel is now in town. Cirelli has been logging over 20 minutes per night and gets to play with Brandon Hagel even though the top line of the Lightning is loaded up ahead of him.
Cirelli has scored a goal in five straight games for a total of six goals and has eight points in that span. What still makes him widely available is that he isn’t on the top power play, doesn’t shoot a lot regardless of his recent success scoring, and doesn’t do a whole lot else fantasy-wise. He is a very good player in real life, but sometimes that doesn’t transfer over as well. He is at eight goals and 21 points in 19 games heading into the week, so his offensive production is undeniable and deserves a good look. The Lightning play against the Washington Capitals, Nashville Predators, and Toronto Maple Leafs to close out the week.
Kiefer Sherwood, Vancouver Canucks
Kiefer Sherwood might be a name not many recognize, but he is really stepping up for the Vancouver Canucks this season after signing with them in free agency from Nashville. He is playing on the top line with a red-hot Elias Pettersson and Jake Debrusk as well. Sherwood has really been doing a lot for the Canucks, especially of late as he has three goals and five points in the last four games and has scored in the past three.
Sherwood leads the league in hits by quite a big margin with 125 in 19 games played. The next closest is Jeremy Lauzon with 99. Sherwood has delivered 10 hits in each of the past two games and had seven shots in one of those games. He is playing confidently and he will most definitely win you a week if hits count towards stats or categories. Get him while he’s hot as players like this aren’t that easy to come by. The Canucks have a packed and good week ahead as they face the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, and Detroit Red Wings.
