This is it. We’ve reached the final week of the 2024 fantasy football regular season. In one of the more wild seasons in recent memory, I would bet if you’re working the Week 14 waiver wire, you’re still playing for something this week. You either still have a shot at a bye in the first round of your league’s playoff or you’re simply still fighting for a playoff spot. Whatever the case may be, there’s players for any team in any scenario on the Week 14 waiver wire. More often than not, with six teams, that have very significant players on bye, managers will be looking for one week fill-in players. You know your league better than anyone else. Look around, see what you need, and do what’s best for your team this week. It’s time to start putting yourself in a position to win your league’s title.
Week 14 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire By Position
Teams with a Week 14 Bye: Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots, Washington Commanders
Running Back
Isaac Guerendo, San Francisco 49ers
The ability to pick up Isaac Guerendo on the Week 14 waiver wire is the exception, not the rule when it comes to saving the top waiver spot or your Free Agency Auction Budget (FAAB) money. Itt’s not every year that a player in this good of a situation is available to pick up this late in the season. Guerendo, of course, is THE top player to target at any position on the Week 14 waiver wire following the news that both Christian McCaffrey (knee) and Jordan Mason (ankle) are heading to the Injured Reserve. Albeit a rookie, Guerendo is the next man up in the San Francisco backfield.
Guerendo has just 47 total touches this season. However, he logged over half of them (27) in Weeks 6 and 8 combined. In those two games, Guerendo logged 10 or more touches in each, averaging 7.6 yards per carry and 14.5 fantasy points per game. In Week 13, during heavy snow conditions in Buffalo against the Bills after McCaffrey’s exit due to injury, Guerendo logged four carries for 19 yards (4.8 yards per carry) and a touchdown.
The 49ers are on a three-game losing streak. They’re not the powerhouse offense many invested in to begin the season. However, Guerendo figures to see the majority of carries from now until the end of the season. The expected volume is too good to pass up regardless of what team a player is on. Additionally, Guerendo should fair okay with the schedule ahead. Over the final four weeks of the fantasy football regular season, he the 49ers face the Bears and Rams at home, play at the Dolphins, then host the Lions in the fantasy football championship. The first three opponents are top-12 matchups for opposing running backs. The Bears and Rams specifically are tied for sixth in rushing yards allowed to the position. With six teams on bye in Week 14, Guerendo should flirt with RB1 numbers and should prove to be a strong start in Week 15, as well, at the very least.
If you’re in a position to add Guerendo on the Week 14 waiver wire, you need to do so unless you absolutely require players at other positions to get a win this week.
Other Running Backs to Consider
Braelon Allen continues to interest me as we head toward the fantasy football playoffs. Breece Hall, who entered Week 13 with “knee soreness”, logged 12 carries for 60 yards and fumbled twice, losing one of them. He was targeted just once. Allen logged five carries of his own, for only 11 yards, but drew two targets. It’s not significant enough of a workload to start Allen, but I wonder if he could have a bigger impact during the fantasy football playoffs. The Jets face the Jaguars, Rams and Bills, all of which rank inside the top-10 in fantasy points allowed to running backs.
Sincere McCormick led the Raiders backfield in carries against the Chiefs in Week 13. He rushed 12 times for 64 yards, a 5.3 yards per carry average, logging two targets, as well. He’s a low-ceiling, desperation flex level play for running back needy teams in Week 14. If Ameer Abdullah is still out there, he is still the preferred option if you do need to pick a Raiders running back. The Week 14 waiver wire doesn’t have many plug-and-play options at the running back position.
The Los Angeles Chargers backfield is not one I’m particularly interested in, but feel like I have to include them on the Week 14 waiver wire if any are still available. In the first game since J.K. Dobbins was placed on Injured Reserve, the Chargers run game barely had an impact on their win. Gus Edwards led the way with 24 snaps (52%) and seven opportunities. Kimani Vidal played just 12 snaps and logged four opportunities. I don’t expect things to improve in Week 14 in Kansas City against a tough Chiefs run defense, but these two should be on rosters.
Handcuff running backs are players who are an injury away from plugging into fantasy lineups and are crucial to add on the waiver wire. The Christian McCaffrey injury should be enough evidence of how important it is to have handcuffs on your bench. I don’t want a simple list to come across as lazy, but there’s no need to dance around how important these players are. The top handcuff running backs, if available, include, but are not limited to, Tyler Allgeier, Ray Davis, Trey Benson, Justice Hill, Kenneth Gainwell, Zach Charbonnet, Jaylen Wright, and Blake Corum. With just one week left in the fantasy football regular season, having one or a few of these players on your bench could prove to be league-winning moves.
Wide Receiver
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, Tennessee Titans
I simply cannot ignore Nick Westbrook-Ikhine any longer. Whether you know it or not by now, Westbrook-Ikhine has eight receiving touchdowns in his last eight games. That includes at least one in seven of them and two this past Sunday. During this stretch, however, Westbrook-Ikhine has just 20 total receptions. That means 40% of his receptions are for a touchdown. He so three or less receptions in seven of his past eight games lowering his floor considerably.
While Calvin Ridley should still be considered the top option in the Titans’ passing game, Westbrook-Ikhine has played 85% or more of the offensive snaps in each of his last six games. That includes three games of 97% or more of the offensive snaps. He’s justifiably seeing the field more.
While there is some risk in picking up Westbrook-Ikhine with intentions of playing him, his schedule is extremely favorable for fantasy football. The Titans have two games against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Weeks 14 and the fantasy finals, Week 17. They rank inside the top-three in fantasy points allowed to wide receivers this season as well as points allowed to opponents (28.3) in 2024. In between these two matchups with Jacksonville are games against the Bengals and Colts. Neither defense is good enough to justify benching players against them.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling, New Orleans Saints
Speaking of scoring sprees, Marques Valdes-Scantling has four touchdowns over his last three games scoring at least one in each of them. Similarly to the aforementioned Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, these four touchdowns are a result of just seven reception on 10 total targets. Valdes-Scantling is yet another wide receiver with a hyphenated last name carrying the appropriate, in more ways then one, boom-or-bust lebel.
It’s possible Valdes-Scantling sees an uptick in target share in the weeks ahead. Taysom Hill, the “do it all” offensive playmaker on the Saints, will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Though he’s known to run the ball, and even attempt a few passes, Hill has logged 17 total targets in each of the Saints’ last two games. In Week 14 specifically, the New York Giants are a likelier opponent than most to give up a big play to Marquez Valdes-Scantling. They’re getting destroyed on the ground which, if the focus is on Alvin Kamara, could open up a few big plays downfield. It only takes one for Valdes-Scantling.
Other Wide Receivers to Consider
Adam Thielen is a higher floor wide receiver option if available on the Week 14 waiver wire. Thielen led all Panthers with 10 targets in Week 13, though David Moore (9) and Xavier Legette (8) were right behind him. Bryce Young is playing far better as of late. He’s averaging 35.3 pass attempts over his last three games. Thielen is a reliable veteran target in a likely negative game script against the Eagles in Philly this week. Points are points, even if Thielen scores them in the second half down multiple scores.
Romeo Doubs should return in Week 14 after missing the Packers’ Thanksgiving game with a concussion. Doubs is averaging 5.85 targets per game since Jordan Love returned in late September from a knee injury. Doubs has six or more targets in three of his last five games and four of his last seven. The Packers play Thursday in Detroit against the Lions. Their defense has given up the second-most yards to wide receivers this season. Detroit is currently dealing with multiple injuries on defense, as well. Doubs isn’t a must-start, but worth consideration to open up Week 14.
Tight End
Will Dissly, Los Angeles Chargers
After logging just one target in Week 13 and dropping a fantasy goose egg in points, Dissly could become available on the Week 14 waiver wire, if he isn’t already. The Chargers play the Chiefs who are the only team that’s allowed north of 900 yards to tight ends (942) this season. To be fair, Brock Bowers did just log a 10/140/1 receiving line against them in Week 13. It’s worth noting, too, though that Ladd McConkey is dealing with a potential knee injury heading into Week 14. That could require more from Dissly. He’s the top Week 14 waiver wire add for tight end needy teams.
Other Tight Ends to Consider
Cole Kmet only caught all three of his Week 13 targets for 26 scoreless yards. However, he had 10 targets the week prior. That’s not out of the ordinary for some of the frequent fliers on the waiver wire this season. In a Week 14 matchup against the 49ers, Kmet could be more involved in what should be a neutral or negative game script for the Bears. Fred Warner, the 49ers Pro Bowl linebacker, has been playing with a broken ankle for weeks now. Kmet is a good pass catching tight end that could take advantage of that.
Grant Calcaterra is a deeper league consideration with Dallas Goedert expected to miss some time. In Goedert’s mid-season absence, Calcaterra did have three games with three or more targets and 30 or more yards in each of them. That includes two games with 58 and 67 yards. Again, this is a deeper league add with six teams on bye and a desperate need for a tight end in Week 14 and possibly beyond. The Eagles host the Panthers who have allowed a league-high nine touchdowns to tight ends.
Quarterback
Russell Wilson, Pittsburgh Steelers
In just six starts this season, Russell Wilson is averaging 17.8 fantasy points per game. He is tied with Patrick Mahomes as the QB12 on a points per game basis. Diving into the numbers, Wilson is averaging 271 passing yards per game. That’s on a modest 31 pass attempts per game. Wilson doesn’t carry any rushing upside, with just 27 yards on 20 attempts, but maintains a high floor in fantasy football from his passing production alone. Week 13 against the Bengals was his second game with three passing touchdowns and third game with more than one passing touchdown.
Wilson is the top quarterback to add on the Week 14 waiver wire with two playoff matchups against defenses inside the top-10 of fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks, the Ravens and the Chiefs. In Week 14, Wilson also gets a Cleveland Browns team, on a short week, in Pittsburgh. While he scored just 13.8 fantasy points against them as recently as Week 12, he did throw for 270 yards, a touchdown, and lost a fumble. I expect Wilson in the range of 17.0 to 21.0 points with potential for more this week.
Other Quarterbacks to Consider
Will Levis hasn’t scored less than 16.0 fantasy points over his last four games. The recent schedule for Levis compared to that of the beginning of the season is night and day in comparison. In Week 14 specifically, Levis and the Titans host the Jacksonville Jaguars. They are quite literally the best matchup for quarterbacks when it comes to fantasy points allowed. The Jaguars have allowed the second-most passing yards and touchdowns while recording the third-fewest number of interceptions and sacks this season. Levis has two passing touchdowns in three of his last four games. He also has the ability to rack up points running the ball. I don’t think you’ll be fighting many managers to get him on the Week 14 waiver wire, but he could provide a significant return on investment.
Caleb Williams and the Bears will travel to San Francisco to take on the reeling 49ers in Week 14. The 49ers have allowed 38 and 35 points respectively to the Packers and Bills over the last two weeks. Meanwhile, the Bears have fired their head coach and promoted Thomas Brown from passing game coordinator to offensive coordinator to interim head coach in the matter of two weeks. It’s a shaky situation, but Williams has scored over 26.0 fantasy points in each of his last two starts. Williams’ coaches may have undergone a significant change, but his weapons remain the same. The 49ers defense isn’t what it once was. Williams is in a position to have an unexpected strong start in Week 14.
Derek Carr also has a nice Week 14 matchup against the New York Giants. They just lost their best defender up front, Dexter Lawrence, to injury last week. The Saints themselves lost Swiss army knife player, Taysom Hill, to an injury of his own which only requires more from Derek Carr week-to-week. The Giants are more susceptible to giving up production through the opponent’s run game. That could limit Carr’s upside, but with a downfield threat like Marquez Valdes-Scantling, pass-catching running back Alvin Kamara, and others, Carr can still put together a solid Week 14 performance. The Giants have allowed 25.7 points per game over their last three so there should be plenty of scoring from the Saints.
Kirk Cousins is a hard player to stomach picking up off of the Week 14 waiver wire and starting, especially in a must-win scenario. He hasn’t thrown a touchdown in either of his last three games. Additionally, he’s thrown an interception in each contest, including four in Week 13. Targeting Cousins this week is playing into the “revenge game” narrative a bit. He and the Falcons will travel to Minnesota to take on the Vikings, of whom Cousins spent six seasons with. Cousins does still have plenty of strong weapons. The Vikings also rank fifth in passing yards allowed mostly due to a stout run defense. I would actually prefer Sam Darnold to Cousins in this matchup, at home, against the Falcons who’ve allowed the eighth-most fantasy points per game to quarterbacks this season. That, obviously, is if he is available on your league’s Week 14 waiver wire.
