Monday Night Football NFL DFS Picks: Saints @ Packers

It’s going to be cold. After all, that’s how things go in Green Bay during the month of December. The New Orleans Saints are left playing out the string and the climate will not nearly be as comfortable as their home games played in a dome. Spencer Rattler returns under center for the Saints as a two touchdown underdog. Green Bay is still in the postseason hunt, and that quest will continue tonight. With an over/under of 42.5 points, there should be a fair amount of offense. As we consider our DFS picks, there is a lot for us to consider.  Here are some Monday Night Football NFL DFS picks with preferences ranked within each category so you can find success.

Monday Night Football NFL DFS Picks: Saints @ Packers

Captain

Josh Jacobs, RB, Green Bay Packers

The Packers are expected to build up a big lead and control the game. That means the second half should be filled with plenty of handoffs to Josh Jacobs. Considering the Saints are struggling against opposing running backs this season, this certainly is a favorable situation for Jacobs.

Especially as the season has progressed, Jacobs has truly settled in. He controls the workload in Green Bay’s backfield and certainly makes good use of his touches. Last week, Jacobs carried the ball 26 times for 94 yards. More importantly, Jacobs scored a touchdown for the fifth straight week. That gave Jacobs 13 touchdowns on the season along with 1,147 rushing yards. He’s averaging 82 yards per game on the ground, and he brings a combination of both floor and ceiling. As an added bonus, Jacobs also has 31 receptions for another 302 yards.

Jordan Love, QB, Green Bay Packers

When he looks downfield, Jordan Love has a plethora of options to choose from. Love has thrown 23 touchdown passes this season while passing for 2,953 yards as he leads the Packers towards the postseason.

The fact that tonight’s game will be played in Green Bay also works to our advantage with Love. In six games, 15 of his touchdown passes have come at home. He also averages about 33 more passing yards at home and that should continue tonight in a good matchup.

Flex

Marquez Valdes-Scantling, WR, New Orleans Saints

Let’s play the revenge game as Marquez Valdes-Scantling returns to where he started his career in Green Bay. Granted it has come by default, but Valdes-Scantling has now become the number-one receiver for the Saints. With New Orleans expected to be trailing in this game and playing from behind, the game script works in his favor from a DFS perspective.

In each of the last two games, Valdes-Scantling has been targeted seven times each. The hope is that he benefits from whatever stability Spencer Rattler offers under center. Valdes-Scantling has turned those 14 targets into six catches for 105 yards. Ultimately, we are looking for one big play out of Valdes-Scantling.

Kendre Miller, RB, New Orleans Saints

With Alvin Kamara sidelined, Kendre Miller steps into a starting role. The biggest concern might be game flow here as if the Saints quickly fall behind, the run game could be abandoned. However, we do have to go after the quantity, and Miller’s projected to have that.

Last week, Miller gained 46 yards on nine carries with a long run of 17 yards. A more complete workload could certainly work in Miller’s favor.

Romeo Doubs, WR, Green Bay Packers

After a two-week absence, Romeo Doubs returned from his concussion last week. While he only caught three passes for 40 yards, two were for touchdowns. It has been an up-and-down season for Doubs with 37 catches for 523 yards and four touchdowns.  The fact that he’s healthy plays a factor. Additionally, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that Love’s success at home is in conjunction with Doubs’. New Orleans also struggles against opposing receivers, so that works in his favor as well.

Christian Watson, WR, Green Bay Packers

What we really want here is a big play. Considering Christian Watson is averaging 21.4 yards per reception, it’s certainly possible. The biggest issue for Watson is consistency as he only has 29 catches and two touchdowns this season. The matchup should work in his favor and Watson is also the cheapest of the three Green Bay receivers.

Spencer Rattler, QB, New Orleans Saints

Whether the production comes in garbage time or as part of a competitive game doesn’t matter. It’s just the points we’re after, but the concern is still how much Spencer Rattler is truly capable of. Rattler hasn’t thrown for more than 243 yards in a game this season and he has just two touchdown passes in four games. However, the ball will be in his hands, and entering the week as the starter should help.

Jayden Reed, WR, Green Bay Packers

Jayden Reed is the most expensive of the Packers’ receivers, and I’m not sure there’s enough there to truly set him apart. We know that the matchup is good, but there’s also competition for targets. With 49 catches for 727 yards and seven touchdowns, Reed is leading Green Bay but two weeks ago he was targeted just once. That floor is enough to generate some level of concern.

Green Bay Packers Defense

Unfortunately, the Green Bay Packers defense is more expensive than we would like them to be. However, in a game with a 14-point spread and a modest over/under, it shouldn’t be surprising. Rattler isn’t exactly generating much fear in opposing defenses. Green Bay has shown the ability to make things happen with 14 interceptions, 12 fumble recoveries, and 40 sacks. Facing an inexperienced quarterback provides the opportunity for those numbers to grow.

Value

Foster Moreau, TE, New Orleans Saints

We know that are plenty of targets available in the New Orleans offense. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Rattler look to his tight end as a safety valve tonight. The Packers also struggle against opposing tight ends, so that works in Foster Moreau’s favor. Last week, Moreau caught all four of his targets for 39 yards, and that establishes a floor.
