Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire: Run to Grab Edgecombe

We are back in action. After a long offseason, the NBA came back in style this past week. Of course, you love your team. After all, you just drafted it and your squad is championship worthy, so why would you think anything else? However, we should never stop looking to improve our team. After a week of evaluation, let’s dig into some options on the fantasy basketball waiver wire.

What?! Your fantasy basketball league wasn’t hosted on Fantrax? Inconceivable! Check out all the features of Fantrax Fantasy Basketball Commissioner, and we’re pretty sure you’ll come around to our way of thinking.

Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire

VJ Edgecombe, G, Philadelphia 76ers

If VJ Edgecombe wasn’t drafted in your league, then rush to your waiver wire. Aside from Cooper Flagg, Edgecombe should be a favorite for Rookie of the Year as he comes loaded with upside. Of course, he’s not going to repeat his season-opening performance, but it also gives a peek at what he’s capable of.

Edgecombe went nuts, scoring 34 points with seven rebounds and three assists. He followed that up by scoring just 15 points, but then finished with eight assists and six rebounds, and three steals. What’s even more impressive is that the rookie played 42 and 40 minutes, respectively.

It’s clear that Edgecombe will have a big role this season while sharing the backcourt with Tyrese Maxey.

Reed Sheppard, G, Houston Rockets

Even though Reed Sheppard isn’t starting, it’s become clear that the Houston Rockets need a point guard to run the obvious. With Fred VanVleet out for the year, someone needs to step up. And that’s likely going to be Sheppard.

The Rockets have the ability to be a dangerous team this season with the addition of Kevin Durant. There’s plenty of fantasy production to go around this season in Houston. Sheppard has played 28 and 20 minutes in the first two games of the year, averaging nine points, 2.5 assists, and two steals per game. As the Rockets get going, I’d expect Sheppard’s fantasy production to follow.

Kyshawn George, F, Washington Wizards

After a solid rookie season, what can we expect from Kyshawn George this season? When he scored 21 points in the first game of the year, optimism was abundant. And then George scored 34 points in his next game. To go along with the scoring, George grabbed nine rebounds and then 11.

On Sunday, though, George dropped down to 25 minutes of action and finished with just six points. The good news is that George still hit the boards while grabbing eight rebounds. He might not get a full complement of shot selection, but the scoring upside is real. And let’s be honest, the Wizards are ultimately looking younger. And that means more opportunity for George throughout the season.

 Nic Claxton, C, Brooklyn Nets

Another major rebuilding job is taking place in Brooklyn. There are few veteran options, or dependable big men, remaining on the Nets’ roster. That means Claxton is in a good position to be a legitimate fantasy asset.

After blocking 104 and 100 shots in the last two games, it’s noteworthy that Claxton has yet to block a shot this season. We know those blocked shots are coming, and Claxton has scored in double figures in each game. I’d look for the Nets to lean on Claxton as he’s also part of their future plans and they need a dependable veteran for the present. Once the blocks come, Claxton has value in the front court.
