Week 17 is anything but normal. Thanks to the All-Star break splitting the scoring period into two calendar weeks, fantasy managers are staring at one of the most chaotic — and potentially league-swinging — stretches of the season.
Add in the ripple effects from the trade deadline, teams experimenting with new rotations, and organizations quietly pivoting toward development mode, and we’ve officially entered early Silly Season territory. Opportunity is about to explode for managers willing to stay aggressive.
Let’s break down the Week 17 schedule and the emerging storylines you need to attack before your league mates catch on.
Boston and Toronto are the only teams capped at three games, immediately lowering the ceiling for fantasy assets from those rosters.
Streaming becomes extremely valuable in the next two weeks, especially early in the scoring period. Managers should be targeting players from the Lakers, Bucks, Thunder, Trail Blazers, and Jazz, all of whom offer strong early-week volume.
Another major edge comes from schedule density. Tuesday and Thursday are brutal light slates, featuring just four games on Tuesday and three on Thursday. The other six days feature at least six games each, which means lineup flexibility and streaming discipline could swing matchups.
NBA Deep League Waiver Wire Adds
Nolan Traoré — G, Nets
Brooklyn’s guard rotation just opened wide after moving on from Cam Thomas, and there are suddenly real fantasy minutes up for grabs.
Traoré is quietly gaining traction after stringing together strong performances, including recent lines of 21-3-7 and 15-3-4 while shooting efficiently. He followed that with 15 points on 6-of-7 shooting, adding four assists, three rebounds, and two triples.
The rookie is playing under control, committing just one turnover in 24 minutes during his latest outing. With Egor Dëmin shifting into more off-ball usage, Traoré is carving out a legitimate role as a table-setter.
Dëmin remains the safest fantasy option among Brooklyn’s rookie trio, but Traoré is a sneaky five-game-week add with upside in points and assists.
Sacramento’s Youth Movement Is Fully Active
The Kings didn’t move their veteran core at the deadline, but their rotation decisions are telling a different story. Sacramento has clearly started prioritizing young development pieces — and fantasy managers should be paying attention.
Nique Clifford G/F
Clifford is finally seeing starter-level minutes and looks completely comfortable. He’s coming off a career-high 30-point performance and is showcasing the well-rounded skillset that made him a first-round selection.
Clifford joins Cooper Flagg and Derik Queen as the only rookies this season to produce a 30-point, two-steal, two-block game. That type of multi-category ceiling is exactly what managers should chase during Silly Season.
Dylan Cardwell F/C
Sabonis still anchors the frontcourt, but Sacramento has little incentive to overwork veterans down the stretch. Cardwell has already posted back-to-back double-doubles and continues flashing elite defensive upside.
His ability to stack rebounds and blocks makes him a strong candidate to emerge as a classic late-season fantasy difference-maker.
Daeqwon Plowden G/F
Plowden recently rejoined Sacramento after another G League stint and immediately logged 39 minutes, producing 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a steal.
The Kings appear ready to evaluate young talent extensively. Plowden has bounced around multiple organizations since going undrafted, but he’s steadily improved and now finds himself in a situation where volume alone could drive fantasy value.
Guerschon Yabusele — F/C, Bulls
Yabusele barely saw the floor in New York but immediately stepped into rotation minutes in Chicago after the Bulls moved Nikola Vucevic. The Bulls’ frontcourt depth is thin, giving Yabusele a legitimate chance to carve out 25-minute nights.
Nick Richards and Leonard Miller could eventually challenge for minutes, but Yabusele is a strong deep-league speculative add until the rotation stabilizes.
Robert Williams — C, Trail Blazers
“The Time Lord” is doing elite fantasy damage in limited minutes, ranking inside the top 20 in 9-category formats over the past two weeks while averaging just 19 minutes.
Yes, the back-to-back rest management remains frustrating. But Portland plays five games this scoring period with only one back-to-back, creating a realistic path to four high-impact outings. When Williams is active, his blocks, rebounds, and efficiency can swing categories almost single-handedly.
Moses Moody/Gui Santos – Warriors
Moody erupted for 25 points with five triples, four rebounds, three steals, and a block in 39 minutes against the Lakers. With Stephen Curry sidelined, Moody is absorbing major perimeter scoring responsibility.
As long as Curry remains out, Moody’s usage and minutes give him legitimate short-term must-roster appeal.
Santos continues thriving in expanded minutes, averaging 14.8 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks recently. That level of across-the-board production plays in virtually every format.
His role could shrink once Curry and Kristaps Porzingis return, but until rotations tighten, Santos offers strong multi-category streaming value.
Dominick Barlow — F, Sixers
Barlow flashed league-winning upside recently with a 26-point, 16-rebound explosion. With Paul George suspended and Philadelphia converting Barlow to a standard contract, his role looks secure moving forward.
Philadelphia plays five games this scoring period and could rest Joel Embiid during back-to-backs, creating additional frontcourt opportunities. When Barlow sees 25+ minutes, he provides efficient scoring, rebounds, and strong field-goal percentage support.
Julian Strawther —G, Nuggets
Strawther impressed in a recent start, scoring 19 points on 50% shooting while hitting four triples. He also brings sneaky defensive upside with steal potential and secondary playmaking.
If Jamal Murray misses additional time, Strawther immediately becomes a strong volume-based streamer for this five-game stretch.
