Thanks to the Week 6 bye weeks, fantasy managers are now forced to replace Sam LaPorta and TJ Hockenson. At the same time, we also have to deal with the usual litany of poor performances and matchup problems. We know that Brock Bowers and Trey McBride are studs, but who else should we be targeting in Week 6 of the NFL season? Heading into Week 6 of the NFL season, let’s take a look at how our options at tight end rank.

Tight End Notes
Isaiah Likely, New York Giants
The Giants brought Likely to New York for a reason, and that’s very clear. Jim Harbaugh had every intention of taking advantage of the weapon that Likely is. Over the past two weeks, Likely was targeted 23 times, and he’s up to 48 targets for the season. He turned that into 11 catches for 94 yards, but more importantly, two touchdowns.
Likely is more than just a traditional tight end, and the Giants don’t treat him as such. Instead, he’s essentially the number two receiver behind Malik Nabers. We know that Jameis Winston has no qualms about airing the ball out. That’s especially critical as New York’s running game has struggled to get on track this season.
New Orleans is struggling against tight ends this season, allowing 356 yards and two touchdowns. The same can be said for their entire pass defense, and we have to acknowledge the fact that the Giants don’t utilize Likely as a normal tight end.
Dallas Goedert, Philadelphia Eagles
The Eagles are on their fourth-string running back, and Dameon Pierce isn’t even a factor in the passing game. Yes, Devonta Smith is expected to return to action, but how healthy is he?
Philadelphia’s offense hasn’t had the most success this season, but getting Goedert back should help in that department. He got off to a great start with four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns. Goedert then injured his knee and missed the better part of the last three games. Returning last week, the tight end was targeted nine times last week. That did translate to six catches, but it was only for 38 yards.
With another week under his belt, I’d expect Goedert to take on an even larger role. Perhaps more importantly, it’s a better matchup against the Carolina Panthers. Generally, opponents exploit the Panthers’ run defense, so their pass defense doesn’t get tested much. Given the state of the Eagles’ offense, things should be different this week. I’m not saying it’s going to be a repeat of their Week 1 matchup against the Chicago Bears, but Goedert should find success.
Pat Freiermuth, Pittsburgh Steelers
Michael Pittman is on the Injured List, and Roman Wilson is set to be sidelined after dislocating his finger. That means the Steelers are very much on the hunt for receiving threats.
Last week, Freiermuth caught two touchdown passes, which gives him four on the season. Aaron Rodgers targeted his tight end seven times last week, and that led to five catches for 44 yards. The dependable option has 19 catches for 169 yards on the season. This week’s opponent, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, also shouldn’t provide much in the way of resistance. Through the first five weeks of the season, opposing tight ends have 301 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Let’s see Freiermuth take advantage of that.
