Week 3 Wide Receiver Sleepers: Super Sammy Watkins

I was three for three on my Week 1 Wide Receiver Sleepers (*pats self on the back*). I laid a goose egg last week calling for four guys who did not deliver. Just like some of the receivers in the Week 3 wide receiver sleepers, my picks seem to be boom or bust here through two weeks.

Let’s get right into the Week 3 wide receiver sleepers that you can flex in 10 or 12 team leagues, and can be cheaper options for DFS.

Week 3 Wide Receiver Sleepers

Sammy Watkins, Kansas City Chiefs

This Kansas City offense is legit. And while Patrick Mahomes threw six touchdowns in Week 2, there was one receiver who was left out of the scoring party.

Fantrax Football CommissionerSammy Watkins had a great bounce-back game against the Steelers after a disappointing Week 1. The stat line was impressive for Watkins in a shootout as he posted six catches for 100 yards on seven targets.

What is more encouraging for Watkins, and what I feel makes him a potential Week-winner against the 49ers, is the effort to get him involved. Andy Reid has designed end-arounds and screens for Watkins to ensure the ball gets into his hands. He took one of those end-arounds for a 30-yard gain in Week 2.

The Chiefs made Watkins one of the Top 5 highest paid wide receivers in the NFL in the offseason. He should not be written off simply because there are “too many mouths to feed”. Being on the field for 48 of the Chiefs 58 snaps with a quarterback like Patrick Mahomes gives playmaker Sammy Watkins juicy opportunity in Fantasy Football.

The 49ers just gave up at least 13.4 points to three Lion’s wideouts in Week 2.

Martavis Bryant, Oakland Raiders

Marty B is back…For now. He was surprisingly used when he was on the field (25 snaps compared to Amari Cooper’s 54) on Sunday.

Bryant had four catches for 30 yards against a tough Broncos defense. If he sees a bump in snap counts, Bryant should see more than five targets. There is opportunity for a big play against the Dolphins defense who was gashed at times by the Jets wideouts in Week 2. Bryant can be considered a deep sleeper this week. If you are looking for a “boom” type of game, he can be flexed in 12-team leagues.

Kamar Aiken, Philadelphia Eagles

Aiken has not been a relevant Fantasy player since 2015 when he caught 75 passes for 944 yards with five touchdowns for the Ravens.

He had a forgetful year with the Colts in 2017 and now he finds himself as a starter on the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles.

Alshon Jeffery is not quite ready and it has been confirmed that the Eagles are not making any moves at wide receiver this week. Unfortunately, Mike Wallace broke his leg last week so in Carson Wentz’ first start of the season, Nelson Agholor and Aiken will be his starters.

Aiken caught five of his six targets for 39 yards against the Buccaneers. With an increased role and Wentz at quarterback, Aiken is a viable option against a poor Colts defense.
