Fantasy Football Bounce-Back Players for 2019
Ricky Seals-Jones, TE, Cardinals: He was a popular sleeper pick last season but RSJ only had 343 receiving yards and one TD catch working with Josh Rosen. This season, he should re-emerge as a key target for the more dynamic Kyler Murray on key passing downs and in goal-line area situations.
Allen Robinson, WR, Bears: He was supposed to produce much more than 55/754/4 as the No. 1 WR in the Chicago offense. But now he will be two seasons removed from a major injury, and with Mitchell Trubisky possibly becoming more consistent, Robinson could be a Fantasy Football bounce-back WR2.
Royce Freeman, RB, Broncos: He rushed for just 521 yards as a rookie, but the Broncos will give him a chance to compete for significant carries this preseason. He could share some time with Phillip Lindsay or there has even been talk that he could take the starting job if he is impressive enough. Lindsay is not going away, so both could end up being useful in Fantasy, possibly as flex options.
Jimmy Graham, TE, Packers: After catching 10 TD passes in 2017, Graham scored just twice in his first year in Green Bay. While there is some conjecture that the end may be nearing for him, a new regime in GB could urge Aaron Rodgers to rediscover Graham as a needed target. Considering he is being drafted in the 150 range overall, why not take a flier at a thin position and see if he staves off talk about fading into the twilight soon? For where you are getting Graham, throw the Fantasy Football bounce-back dart.
Mike Gesicki, TE, Dolphins: Despite having all the measurables to be a standout and at least a decent contributor as a rookie, he was completely invisible, catching just 22 passes and not scoring despite being advertised as a major threat for TDs in the red zone and goal-line regions. But he has added some muscle during the offseason and could be forced to contribute more in Miami’s short passing game this season.
Golden Tate, WR, Giants: An in-season trade disrupted his productivity, but the Giants brought him in to be a dependable option, especially if rookie Daniel Jones sees a lot of playing time. Tate should bounce back to at least be a WR3 in PPR. He is still a fine possession type with excellent abilities to gain yardage after the catch. He is a Fantasy Football bounce-back type who fits nicely into what should be a high percentage passing game.
Derek Carr, QB, Raiders: He is coming off not one, but two disappointing seasons after he looked like he was breaking out in 2016. Carr only threw 19 TD passes last year. But now he has his best supporting cast ever and everything is set up for him to have a defining season. This is a highly crucial season for Carr, and you can take him very late and hope he pushes himself back into Fantasy QB1 territory.
Nelson Agholor, WR, Eagles: He appeared to be taking steps forward to becoming a relevant Fantasy WR in 2017 with eight TD passes. But he caught only four last season. Agholor will be back in the slot this year and Carson Wentz will be back in the QB saddle. He could re-emerge to be at least a quality streamer and may respond to the drafting of J.J. Arcega-Whiteside to become a Fantasy Football bounce-back type.
Rashaad Penny, RB, Seahawks: He never really got rolling in his rookie season. But now Penny will at least be part of a timeshare, and if Chris Carson cannot stay healthy, Penny could get a big opportunity to seize the starting job and make good on his first-round NFL Draft pick status. Ronald Jones, RB, Buccaneers: I’m not going to go in detail yet again on how awful his rookie season was, as it has been too frequently documented already. But the door is wide open for Jones to quickly erase the memory of 2018 and take over as a quality starter for the Buccaneers. The new staff in Tampa Bay did not bring in any other reinforcements at the position and only stopgap Peyton Barber is in the way of Jones regaining respect and flashing his better form more frequently. There is an obvious opportunity being given to him to show the new coaches that he can take advantage of another chance to start. Jones is the epitome of a Fantasy Football bounce-back candidate.
