Week 4 College Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

John Laub and Justin Heisey join forces to identify the top additions for the Week 4 College Fantasy Football Waiver Wire.

Just before publishing our Week 4 College Fantasy Football Waiver Wire column, reports surfaced that Houston quarterback D’Eriq King will sit out the remainder of the season and enter the transfer portal. Under a new NCAA guideline, a player can play four-games and still retain the redshirt rule without losing a year of eligibility.

After Trevor Lawrence earned the starting assignment at Clemson last year, Kelly Bryant, who now leads the Missouri offense, departed the University, and the Tigers’ signal-caller did not sacrifice a year of competing on the gridiron. If you own King on a CFF team, Justin and I have you covered in order to find a diamond in the rough for the rest of the season.

Are any of last week’s sleepers still on your Week 4 College Football Waiver Wire? I think you know what to do!

Week 4 College Fantasy Football Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks

Josh Adkins, New Mexico State
Fantrax Ownership Percentage: 12%

While watching games on Saturday, I noticed that my good friend Mike Bainbridge, @MBainbridgeCFF, posted on Twitter that he lost a matchup despite starting Josh Adkins with Jalen Hurts on a bye. Regretfully Mike, I am also haunted by many setbacks in my alternative-reality career. If you play fantasy sports long enough, you will surely suffer a heartbreaking defeat.

Perspicacious CFF fanatics never overlook any matchup, and the Aggies-Lobos contest between in-state rivals provided many under-the-radar prospects for fantasy points. The back-and-forth scoring fest totaled 107 points as Adkins posted a career-best afternoon: He passed for 335 yards, rushed for 32 and accounted for four touchdowns. In 2018, the 6-foot-2 and 217-pounder started the final eight games of the season and illustrated promising skills as a redshirt freshman. He completed 57% of his passes for 2,563 yards and thirteen touchdowns.

In four games this year, New Mexico State is winless; nevertheless, the offense (and more importantly Adkins) has not surrendered. “We were confident in our preparation, confident in our game plan…I think that shows some signs of a really great offense. Every time they scored, we responded, and that’s what mature, really good offenses do,” Adkins said after the game in the nmsuroundup.com by James Martin. With Fresno State, Liberty and Central Michigan on the upcoming slate, Adkins will continue slinging the football and producing fantasy points. — John

Justin McMillan, Tulane
Fantrax Ownership Percentage: 8%

On the Fantrax network, all of the information CFF managers need to win their leagues is provided by an All-American team of analysts. In the Week 1 Waiver Wire Gemstones column, I advised readers to keep a close eye on Justin McMillan, and on the CFF: On Campus podcast, my teammate Justin Heisley identified the Tulane QB as a sleeper in our Fantastic Four segment on the show.

Justin nailed the prediction. The dual-threat playmaker led the Green Wave to a dramatic last-second victory over Houston (38-31) and torched the Cougars for four touchdowns, finishing the weekend as the 11th most productive CFF signal-caller.

After a humbling outing against the Auburn defense two weeks ago, offensive coordinator Will Hall tweaked the unit and often spoke with McMillan. The results speak for themselves over the past two games against Missouri State and Houston. “We got back to our base offense and pretty much our bread and butter and tried to work that a lot more and get an identity for this team and keep working in that direction. At the end of the day, this is still a new offense with a lot of young players. This offense is a nonstop progress for us, and we hope to continue to grow,” McMillan said after the game against Missouri State on nola.com.

CFF fanatics can rejoice that Hall and McMillan are on the same page and the Green Wave offense is humming down the road full speed. The American Athletic Conference provides weekly highlights, and McMillan is a stash and wait pickup this week as Tulane enjoys an upcoming bye before the AAC conference schedule commences. — John

Chris Robison, Florida Atlantic
Fantrax Ownership Percentage: 10%

Chris Robison had the quietest nine touchdowns in a two-week period in all of college football. Robison had a rough start to the season after being briefly suspended/dismissed from the team before being reinstated a few weeks prior to Week One.

After losing running back BJ Emmons, the FAU offense stalled for multiple weeks with Robison reaping a 54% completion percentage while averaging under five yards per attempt with a touchdown and a pick against Ohio State and UCF. But Robison has pulled out “Jordan’s Secret Stuff” against Ball State and Wagner with nine touchdown passes, 745 yards, and zero interceptions in the last two weeks.

FAU has shootout opportunities against Charlotte and Middle Tennessee in the two hardest weeks for byes anyone will see this season. Robison may finally be showing what made him a prospect for the Oklahoma Sooners all those years ago, and the FAU receiving corps couldn’t be happier. — Justin

USC over Utah, 30-23: 11%
UCLA over Washington State, 67-63: 59%
Pittsburgh over UCF, 35-34: 27%
Colorado over Arizona State, 34-31: 2%

“The only answer is UCLA. What a game!” @thorku

“Got to agree with Thor (@thorku). Did not expect UCLA to hang around…let alone win the game.” @AlbaughBrandon

“The Washington State loss was strange to watch. It appeared that (Coach) Leach ‘let’ his team crumble. That, or he had the deer in the headlights thing going.” @aceholesrule

Running Backs

Moe Neal, Syracuse
Ownership Percentage: 18%

Moe Neal’s fantasy relevance prior to the start of the season was up in the air given Oklahoma-transfer Abdul Adams’ eligibility and the high expectations for Tommy DeVito. Syracuse leaned heavily on the run in Week 1 and went right back to it last week in a win over Western Michigan.

Neal toted the rock 26 times against WMU and went for 123 yards and two scores. Although this one game doubled his total production from the season, the 26 carries is far more than any other Syracuse back has gotten in any game this season. Neal looks to be the only consistent piece in this Orange offense and his pass-catching ability makes him that much more valuable. Syracuse has already had their day against Clemson and avoid stronger defensive units for the rest of the season. — Justin

Kennedy McKoy, West Virginia
Ownership Percentage: 28%

I openly admitted on the CFF: On-Campus podcast two weeks ago that I was done with anyone West Virginia. Then Neal Brown stepped things up and showed offensive dominance against NC State and Kansas in the previous two weeks. A key contributor to this offensive success is Kennedy McKoy who has proven to be a real threat on the ground and through the air.

McKoy saw an increased carry count from week three to week four as well as two more receptions. He’s accounted for three scores in the last two weeks with 22 fantasy points in each contest. After a bye, West Virginia continues with its Big 12 slate against Texas and Iowa State in games where he will be heavily relied on. — Justin

Justin Henderson, Louisiana Tech
Fantrax Ownership Percentage: 1%

On Friday night, the Bulldogs defeated Florida International 43-31 behind Justin Henderson, who rushed for 141 yards and three touchdowns. Remarkably, he came off the bench against the Panthers and did not earn a touch until the second quarter. On his second carry, Henderson scored on a 29-yard scamper, earning more touches in the second half. His performance ranked him among the Top 10 CFF runners with 32.1 fantasy points last week.

A JUCO transfer, Henderson attended Coffeyville Community College before enrolling at Louisiana Tech. He netted limited opportunities last season with only 28 carries for 113 yards. Over the past two weeks, the redshirt junior has averaged a whopping 9.8 yards per attempt on 24 carries, rushing for 236 yards. In the next two weeks, Louisiana Tech plays Rice and UMass…both matchups are very scrumptious for CFF diehards like myself. — John

Darius Anderson, TCU
Fantrax Ownership Percentage: 22%

Last week, I appealed to CFF managers to acquire Darius Anderson, and his ownership increased from 4% to 22% on Fantrax. It is still far too low and likely to surpass 50% by Friday.

How well has Anderson played over the past two weeks? He is the third-most effective runner in college fantasy football, scoring 64.5 points. The dynamic Horned Frog has rambled for 340 yards, snatched 4 passes for 45 yards and scored four times. “Coach Gary Patterson wants to run the football and control the game with a good defense. Darius Anderson is the guy that’s going to help propel this team to be competitive and potentially be one of those teams that plays spoiler in the Big 12 this year,” College Football expert Brady Quinn stated on 247sports.com. I concur with Quinn, and Anderson must be snatched off waiver wires this week. — John

Wide Receivers

Demetric Felton, UCLA
Fantrax Ownership Percentage: 31%

While the family sleeps on Sunday mornings, I awake early to examine the results of the late West Coast games and analyze the scoring leaders in college fantasy football. Of course, looking at the UCLA-Washington State box score as well as the CFF leader board, Demetric Felton jumped off my monitor. He snatched seven passes for 150 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner, and is now the 16th-ranked CFF receiver a month into the season.

Felton’s performance ranks among the finest of the 2019 crusade. In the second quarter, the game-breaker returned a kickoff 100 yards, and in the third quarter, he reached the end zone on a 94-yard catch. Finally, with a little over a minute remaining, the blazing Bruin turned a short pass into the game-winner. “I just kept on telling our guys just to keep fighting. You know, if we keep fighting, keep on doing our jobs, there’s nothing that can stop us,” Felton said after the game in the latimes.com by Ben Bolch.

A redshirt junior, Coach Brian Kelly leaned on the playmaker to carry the football in the Bruins’ opener against Cincinnati when Joshua Kelley did not play. He responded with 71 rushing yards on 23 carries and corralled two passes for 91 yards and a touchdown. In the three games since, Felton has earned 19 carries for 106 yards. Nonetheless, he is making a bigger impact as a receiver. For the year, he has 20 receptions for 321 yards and three touchdowns. It is time to acquire Felton on waivers this week for the remainder of the crusade. — John

Ja’Marr Chase, Louisiana State
Ownership Percentage: 12%

I never in a million years thought I would type these words, but LSU has the second-best passing offense in college football. Joe Burrow is ranked second nationally in passing touchdowns, passing yards, and yards per attempt. This boosted the stock Terrace Marshall, Jr. who is unfortunately out for an extended period of time. This opens the door for Ja’Marr Chase, who leads the LSU Tigers in receiving yards.

Chase will see an uptick in touchdown receptions with the touchdown leader sidelined for the time being. Chase is only owned in 12% of leagues so do the smart thing and go out and get him while you still can. The Tigers are on bye this week and should have a strong showing in Week 6 against Jordan Love and the Utah State Aggies. — Justin

Tarique Milton, Iowa State
Ownership Percentage: 4%

Everybody who pays attention to Iowa State football knows about how excellent a quarterback Brock Purdy is and how great Deshaunte Jones is, but you really have to look close to find the diamond in the rough that is Tarique Milton. Milton is a sophomore wideout for the Cyclones who has led the team in receiving yards in their last two contests with back to back 100-plus yard outings.

Milton does have to compete against Dashaunte Jones, but his performances in the last two weeks show that he’s trending upward. He’s gone from the bottom of the totem pole to third-leading receiver in a two week period and could be higher if not for an FCS matchup getting him out early. The Cyclones take on the Baylor Bears and the TCU Horned Frogs in favorable matchups for an explosive player such as Milton. — Justin
