Week 3 was a weird one for the tight end position. Dalton Schultz finished as the TE1, Lee Smith was the Atlanta tight end who scored a touchdown, and T.J. Hockenson ended the day with two targets. Good times! If you’re wondering which tight end to start this week, look no further than my Week 4 tight end rankings and notes! Hopefully, I can provide some guidance to a position that can sometimes feel un-guidable. Keep in mind these rankings are based on a half PPR format.

Week 4 Tight End Notes
Kyle Pitts saw three targets in Week 3, a season-low. He has yet to score a touchdown but is seeing volume on the whole, playing 76.7 percent of snaps on the season. A Week 4 matchup against Washington could provide a nice fantasy opportunity. The Football Team is middle-of-the-pack against tight ends but is allowing the fourth-most passing yards on the season (921).
Mike Gesicki saw a season-high 12 targets in Week 3 and finished the day with 86 receiving yards. Don’t expect that kind of volume on a weekly basis, but he may see an uptick in targets with Jacoby Brissett under center.
Noah Fant caught two of his three passes for 15 yards in Week 3. Yuck. But the uninspiring stat line was partially due to Teddy Bridgewater only attempting 25 passes. Fant has a favorable Week 4 matchup against the Ravens, who are allowing the second-most fantasy points to tight ends this season. Additionally, Fant should see a boost in targets with KJ Hamler out for the season.
Dawson Knox scored a touchdown for the second week in a row. While he’s never seen more than five targets a game this season, he’s played 71.6 percent of snaps. Knox has a nice matchup this week against the Texans. Stream away!
Robert Tonyan has slowly slipped down my rankings, and he’ll continue to fall in Week 4. Tonyan’s targets have dropped each week, from four in Week 1 to one in Week 3. Tonyan is a streamer until he starts to see more consistent volume.
Austin Hooper scored a touchdown in Week 3, but I’m still not buying. Hooper and David Njoku have seen close to the same number of snaps on the season (64.2 percent and 60.2 percent, respectively). Similarly, Hooper has 11 targets to Njoku’s eight. Until someone emerges as the lead tight end, I’m avoiding both.
I said this last week, but continue to keep an eye on Pat Freiermuth. Eric Ebron ran more routes in Week 3, but Freiermuth out-targeted Ebron and scored Pittsburgh’s lone touchdown on the day. The Steelers have a plus matchup in Week 4 against the Packers, who are giving up the third-most fantasy points to tight ends this season. Freiermuth could be a sneaky play this week.
