For Week 8, I recommended Daniel Jones against Kansas City, Carson Wentz against Tennessee, and Teddy Bridgewater against Washington. Jones and Wentz both came through, finishing as the no. 13 and no. 11 fantasy quarterbacks on the week, respectively. Unfortunately, Bridgewater continued his slump and was unable to produce even against a reeling Washington defense that had allowed multiple passing touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks for five straight weeks heading into the game.
Overall, Week 8 offered some fine options for fantasy GMs who eschewed drafting a quarterback early and have been streaming the position. If you drafted Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson early or managed to snag Matthew Stafford or Jalen Hurts later on in your drafts, this article probably isn’t for you. But if you’ve been streaming quarterbacks or have Tom Brady on bye, here are some viable Week 9 quarterback streamers with good matchups who can help your fantasy team win this week.

Note: The below quarterback streamers are the “best of the rest”, meaning that they’re generally rostered in less than about 60-65 percent of major fantasy football platforms at the time of this writing even after waivers have run on Wednesday.
Taysom Hill (6% on ESPN, 19% on Yahoo)
Much obviously hinges upon whether Taysom Hill can clear concussion protocol in time for Sunday’s game, but it’s a good sign that he was able to get a limited practice in on Wednesday. Atlanta’s secondary is a matchup to target, as the Falcons’ pass defense ranks 29th in DVOA through eight weeks. And regardless of how Hill will perform as a passer, he showed in a limited sample size in 2020 that he can be a productive fantasy QB1 based on his rushing production.
In his four starts last season while filling in for Drew Brees, Hill averaged 52 rushing yards per game and ran in four touchdowns. This week’s game would be the perfect matchup for Hill’s first start of 2021, as Atlanta has been gashed on the ground by rushing quarterbacks. In their four games against Jalen Hurts, Daniel Jones, Taylor Heinicke, and Sam Darnold this season, the Falcons allowed 53 rushing yards per game to the opposing quarterback. Assuming Hill is active and the starter for New Orleans, his rushing floor and ceiling make him the top option among the Week 9 quarterback streamers.
Tua Tagovailoa (45% on ESPN, 44% on Yahoo)
This past week, Tua Tagovailoa predictably struggled against a top-flight Buffalo defense. However, in the two games prior to that, Tagovailoa had been averaging over 300 passing yards and three touchdowns per game. Despite continued issues with turnovers, expect a bounce back this week. The Texans’ defense has allowed multiple touchdowns to opposing quarterbacks in six of their eight games thus far, making Tagovailoa a serviceable option among this week’s quarterback streamers.
While Houston’s pass defense ranks 16th and is middle of the road, this stat is somewhat deceiving. The Texans’ awful run defense, which ranks 31st in DVOA, has allowed opponents to formulate run-heavy game plans, thereby hiding some of their deficiencies in the secondary. There’s some risk of Myles Gaskin stealing the touchdowns due to the easy rushing matchup, but Tagovailoa still has a fair fantasy floor and decent upside against Houston this week.
Carson Wentz (39% on ESPN, 58% on Yahoo)
After five straight games with no interceptions, Carson Wentz threw two awful picks against Tennessee last week. However, he also logged his fifth straight performance with multiple passing touchdowns in the loss to the Titans and finished with a respectable 18 fantasy points all things considered. And though the Jets upset the Bengals this past Sunday, Joe Burrow still managed a solid 20-point fantasy outing against them.
The potential absence of Quenton Nelson for Thursday night’s matchup makes Wentz a riskier bet, which is why he’s ranked third on this week’s list of quarterback streamers. New York ranks seventh in pass rush win rate, so there’s risk of their front seven disrupting Wentz and the Colts’ passing offense. Even so, the Jets’ 27th ranked pass defense has allowed the sixth-most passing yards per game, and they’ve also allowed opposing quarterbacks to throw for multiple touchdowns against them now in three straight games.
Honorable Mentions
In deeper leagues, if none of the above-recommended quarterback streamers are available, Teddy Bridgewater hasn’t been playing well, but the Broncos may need to pass more than they have in recent weeks to keep up with the Cowboys’ offense. And if you’re desperate, Daniel Jones could be a serviceable option but would be a risky start without knowing which of his pass-catchers he’ll have healthy and active by Sunday.
