G5 Playoff Waiver Wire

Quarterbacks

Owen McCown – University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA)

Fantrax Rostership: 31%

Total Fantasy Points: 253.3

Fantasy Points Per Game: 28.1

The first G5 Playoff Waiver Wire name to know is Owen McCown. His 31% ownership doesn’t technically meet my requirement for this article, but 31% is close enough! Over his last four contests, McCown has averaged 37.9 fantasy points, averaging 43 pass attempts, 327 passing yards, and three touchdowns per game. In Week 12, the Roadrunners have a date with North Texas with an O/U of 72.5. Minus their game last week against Army, North Texas’ defense, on average, is allowing quarterbacks to complete 18 passes on 27 attempts for 281 yards and two touchdowns. McCown’s recent success + North Texas’ Defense + High over/under = G5 Playoff Waiver Wire name to know.

Katin Houser – East Carolina (ECU)

Fantrax Rostership: 24%

Total Fantasy Points: 146.1

Fantasy Points Per Game: 29.2

Katin Houser took over as the Pirates’ quarterback in Week 8.  His outputs have been: 39.4, 44.15, and 58.35 fantasy points. Who does ECU have in Week 12? Tulsa. In four of Tulsa’s last five games, their defense has allowed an average of 394 yards passing, four touchdowns and has zero interceptions. Luke, why do you say four of their last five games? Good question. Army was one of those five games. I omitted them as Army does not throw the ball much. In that particular game, Army went five for five passing for 140 yards and two touchdowns. Tulsa can be had through the air. Katin Houser is a great G5 Playoff Waiver Wire name for you to use tonight!

Running Backs

Damien Taylor – Troy

Fantrax Rostership: 10%

Total Fantasy Points: 103.1

Fantasy Points Per Game: 11.5

Damien Taylor is averaging 16 attempts for 88 yards and half a touchdown over his last four games. Troy plays the Eagles of Georgia Southern in Week 12. The Eagles have allowed 176 yards rushing and about one touchdown on the ground over their last four games. We have seen a bit of an uptick in Taylor’s usage over the last two weeks. This can be attributed to Troy’s move at quarterback to Matthew Caldwell. I believe we see a heavy dose of Damien Taylor and Gerald Green in Week 12. Honestly, if Damien Taylor is rostered in your league…grab Gerald Green. He is averaging only two less carries per game (14) and the same amount of yards (88) and touchdowns (0.5) per game.

Kentrel Bullock – South Alabama

Fantrax Rostership: 14%

Total Fantasy Points: 114.2

Fantasy Points Per Game: 12.7

Kentrel Bullock has provided double-digit fantasy outputs in six of his last seven games. He has over 100 yards rushing in each of his last two contests. You may worry about his running mate, Fluff Bothwell, but there is room for both to eat in Week 12. The Jaguars have a date with Louisiana. Over Louisiana’s last four contests, their defense is allowing, on average, 187 yards rushing. The stat line from the top running back producer in each of those four games averages out to 16 carries for 110 yards rushing and 0.5 touchdowns. If you are searching for a running back this week, Kentrel Bullock is a solid G5 Playoff Waiver Wire name.

Wide Receivers

Chase Sowell – East Carolina (ECU)

Fantrax Rostership: 24%

Total Fantasy Points: 109.3

Fantasy Points Per Game: 13.7

Sowell had 26.8 fantasy points in the week the Pirates made the switch at quarterback. Sowell had a season-best in targets (10), receptions (7) and receiving yards (138). He also got his first touchdown of the season. He followed up that performance with his second-best yardage output with 117 yards and his second touchdown. It is back-to-back games with 100-plus receiving yards and a touchdown. He only had one reception for 50 yards and a touchdown in Week 11, but they have Tulsa in Week 12. Tulsa has allowed at least 100 yards receiving and a touchdown to an opposing wide receiver in 6 of their last 7 games. The game that that didn’t make this criteria was against Temple – in which Landon Morris had 97 yards receiving and 0 touchdowns.

Justin Lockhart – San Jose State (SJSU)

Fantrax Rostership: 16%

Total Fantasy Points: 131.3

Fantasy Points Per Game: 14.6

Justin Lockhart only has one game with less than 10 fantasy points (against Air Force in Week 2). He has yet to see under five targets in any game this year. Walker Eget took over at quarterback for the Spartans against Colorado State. Since then Lockhart does not have a game under six targets, 78 yards receiving or 13 fantasy points. During the stretch of games with Eget at quarterback, Lockhart has averaged four receptions on eight targets for 107 yards receiving and zero touchdowns. Justin Lockhart is a safe G5 Playoff Waiver Wire floor play in Week 12.
