The NFL Draft is in the books. My scholars completed their AP examinations, and I finished teaching the History of Human Rights at a local community college last week. It is now officially kick off for the 2018 campaign and time to begin writing another chapter in the never-ending fantasy football hobby, and a deep dive into my college fantasy football rankings for Devy Leagues.
While most Americans are sunbathing at the beach, visiting amusement parks or cooking and eating at a barbeque, I am analyzing players and watching film of college football prospects for the upcoming season. My College Fantasy Football rankings will be published in early July and are the foundation of my rookie rankings every spring.
A few football zealots have inquired about publishing Devy prospects. I took the requests seriously, and for the first time, I want to share my early college fantasy football rankings for Devy Leagues heading into training camps across the country.
What are Devy leagues?
It is a Dynasty league on steroids. It is an amazing new format that allows diehards to scout, project and manage prospects from high school to the pros. Once a year, owners in Devy Leagues draft Devy/college players and place the prospects on “farm teams”
When the prospect leaves campus and declares for the NFL Draft, the player will be promoted to the active roster of the fantasy manager. Many leagues limit the future professionals to one or two players on farm teams. Therefore, the annual draft of rookies remains fertile with prospects.
Owners in Devy Leagues are always looking for a competitive advantage, and I have identified over 40 college players who should be considered for farm team rosters. My initial Devy rankings are based on in-game observations, size-and-speed metrics, game performances and statistical production from last season.
These are not general College Fantasy Football rankings for 2018 or NFL rookie ratings for 2019 but only ratings to provide insight in Devy Leagues. To become better acquainted with the players, I watch televised games of these prospects throughout the fall and take extensive notes. The rankings will surely change as the season unfolds and players exceed expectations, disappoint on the field or suffer injuries.
If you are a Devy player, College Fantasy Football Fanatic, Draftnik or Football Diehard, I hope you enjoy the rankings as much as I did researching the players. It is an idyllic game–and life–for a gridiron scholar.
