It’s draft season baby! I thought it would be a good idea to let you in on some of my favorite College Fantasy Football (CFF) Values to help you in your upcoming drafts. I will give you a player at each position that is currently being drafted in rounds 10-20 and another set of players at each position being drafted in rounds 30+. Average Draft Position or ADP, is based on Fantrax ADP. When I mention points per game (ppg), I am assuming a 12-team league that uses 6-point passing TDs and 1 point per reception (PPR).
Top 2024 College Fantasy Football Values
CFF Quarterback Values
John Mateer – Washington State (APD: 155.73)
To understand Mateer’s potential in this offense, let’s look back to 2023. Cam Ward, who is off to Miami, averaged 30.2 ppg. Ward was QB12 and finished as the 13th overall player. He averaged 40.4 pass attempts per game and threw for 3,736 yards. Who is John Mateer? Mateer is a redshirt sophomore from Little Elm, Texas. Mateer was named District 5-6A Offensive Player of the Year and unanimous All-District first-team his senior year of high school. Last year, he appeared in 11 games and went 13-for-17 for 267 yards, 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also added 151 yards and 3 touchdowns on the ground. In CFF, volume is king. If you can get a high-end QB2 or a low-end QB1 at the end of the 13th round or the beginning of the 14th round, don’t let that value pass you by.
Zeon Chriss – Houston (ADP: UDFA)
Houston has a new Head Coach, Willie Fritz. Fritz comes in via Tulane. Zeon Chriss transfers to Houston from Louisiana. Chriss averaged 61.5 yards on the ground and 152 yards passing a game in 2023. Those numbers plus his touchdown and interceptions equated to 23.8 ppg. Michael Pratt, Fritz’s QB at Tulane, was the team’s second-leading rusher. He averaged 25.28 ppg last year at Tulane. There are some reports of Donovan Smith having some shoulder issues this offseason. If these reports are true, you could be grabbing a starting Houston QB at the end of your draft with a nice floor week to week.
CFF Running Back Values
Cameron Cook – TCU (ADP: 120.65)
You want the RB1 in a Sonny Dykes/Kendal Briles system. Last year Emani Bailey averaged 18.41ppg. In 2022, Kendre Miller averaged 19.25 ppg. It sounds like Cam Cook is poised to be the RB1 in this system in 2024. In drafts I have been in, running backs have been going quick. So finding a back that has the potential to average 18-19ppg, sitting there in the 10th/11th round, seems like a no-brainer.
Braedon Sloan – Ball State (ADP: ???)
You might be asking, “Luke what is with the unknown ADP?” Well, Braedon Sloan is not in the Fantrax system. I want to make sure to cover him. He transferred to Ball State after spring practices. Sloan is a 5’11” 185 lbs running back from Eastern Kentucky, and he was very productive. Sloan led the conference in all-purpose yards with 1,636. He rushed for 765 yards and 10 touchdowns and added 40 receptions for 467 yards and 3 touchdowns. On top of that, Sloan had 15 kick returns for 397 yards. I would anticipate he will find the field sooner rather than later. There is a lot of upside with this pick. As I mentioned before, running backs can dry up quick. So if you need a guy, Sloan would be my pick.
CFF Wide Receiver Values
Eric McAlister – TCU (APD: 254.45)
In 2023, Eric McAlister was breaking out in a big way. He was averaging 18.3 ppg before he decided to sit out the rest of the season and enter the transfer portal. McAlister is in line to be the wide receiver 1 at TCU. TCU spent up in the portal to land him, so I believe he will be given every opportunity to be the guy for the Horned Frogs. Couple that with Josh Hoover being the quarterback and I like the volume he could see. In 2023, Hoover attempted 30 passes per game, but in the last five games of the season he averaged 43.6. Finding a wide receiver in the 22nd round of CFF drafts that could net you 20+ ppg shouldn’t be passed up.
Kamdyn Benjamin and Jeremiah Ballard – Tulsa WRs (146.24 and UDFA)
According to FBSchedules, Tulsa has the 132nd toughest schedule in 2024. There are 134 teams in college football. Kamdyn Benjamin had a breakout towards the end of the 2023 season. He ended the season on a heater. He had games of 35.98 points, 24.1 points, and 26.3 points. Jeremiah Ballard is a University of Texas El Paso (UTEP) transfer. The reason I bring up Ballard is because he was mentioned as a breakout player by Tulsa beat reporter, Cayden McFarland. He also said Ballard will be a guy they rely on in 2024. If you miss out on Benjamin in the 12/13th round, feel good about taking Jeremiah Ballard late in drafts. Heck, you may be able to grab both!
CFF Tight End Values
Maliq Carr – Houston (ADP: 345)
As I mentioned earlier in the section with Zeon Chriss, Houston has a new Head Coach in Willie Fritz. Fritz went out and brought in Maliq Carr. Carr is a 6’6″ 265lbs TE who transfers in from Michigan State. Tulane’s TE, Alex Bauman, saw a good amount of work under coach Fritz. He ran the most routes on the team (319), was fourth on the team in targets (47), second on the team in receptions (35), and tied for second on the team in receiving touchdowns (5). It gets tough in these streets when it comes to TEs. If you ask me, 7.8ppg is pretty solid from a TE in the 29th round.
Jaxxon Warren – Colorado State (ADP: 353.58)
Jaxxon Warren is a Navarro College (JUCO) transfer. He is 6’7” and 245 pounds. Jay Norvell has a track record with some successful TEs: Cole Turner, Trey McBride, and Dallin Holker. In 2023, Holker ran the most routes (485) on the team, was second in targets (105), second in yards (767), second in touchdown receptions (6), and second in target % (22.2%). About 57% of the receiving yards are gone due to graduation and guys leaving for the portal. Given Norvell’s history with TEs and the production loss, I like the odds for Warren. You can hear more about Jaxxon Warren on the G5 Hives’ Worker Series. Please note Fantrax has him listed at Ball State, but he is at Colorado State.
