Deep League Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Targets for Week 10

Now two months into the fantasy baseball season it’s fascinating to look at current team rosters in comparison to the drafted team. For most deep league players there’s very likely a big difference between the two rosters. More importantly, it’s likely that the top teams in the standings are also the one’s that have been most active on the waiver wire. That’s why we share our weekly list of viable waiver wire targets for teams in deep fantasy baseball leagues to keep boosting their rosters throughout the season.

Deep League Waiver Wire Targets for Week 10

15-Team Mixed League Targets

1. Adam Duvall, OF, Braves

Over the last decade, Adam Duvall has been a regular target on waiver wires throughout each season. His consistent power output makes him a key target when receiving regular playing time. However, his career 31.4% strikeout rate is what often restricts his playing time to a platoon role. Yet, that role can expand into regular playing time when key injuries occur, as has happened recently with Ronald Acuna. While only batting .204 so far this season, it’s a certainty that Duvall will provide a boost to homerun and RBI stats for fantasy baseball managers moving forward. If the batting average rises to his near overall league average mark of .247 last season, he could become a difference-maker for the rest of the season.

2. Matt Waldron, SP, Padres

It seems like forever since there’s been a high-impact knuckleball starting pitcher in the majors. In fact, the last notable knuckleballer was R.A. Dickey, who last pitched in 2017. With Matt Waldron’s emergence this year for the Padres there’s finally another knuckleball pitcher dazzling fans with magical pitch movement. Lately, Waldron’s had great success with his unique pitching style by allowing only five earned runs over his last 23 innings pitched. In that four-start span, he has also struck out an astonishing 31 batters. While there’s a risk of another blowup outing, like what occurred in early May for seven earned runs, it seems Waldron has found his groove. He’s a matchup play still at this point but worth the roster add in deep leagues to see where his knuckleball magic may take him the rest of the season.

3. Ben Brown, SP, Cubs

Sometimes a demotion from starter to reliever isn’t a result of inferior play but simply due to roster space limitations. That certainly is the case with Ben Brown who had a strong debut as a starter early this season but then was relegated to a relief role when the rotation returned to full health. That stint as a reliever didn’t last long, however, as new spots opened up in the rotation again recently. In his return to the rotation, Brown made the most of the opportunity by striking out 10 hitters across seven innings of no-hit baseball. Given his prospect pedigree and early-season performance, Brown should be a key waiver wire target this week.

AL-Only League Targets

1. Tyler Freeman, 3B/SS/OF, Guardians

Sneakily Tyler Freeman has become one of the biggest surprises this season by thriving in a leadoff role for the Guardians. While the move to the leadoff role was a result of Steven Kwan’s injury absence, Freeman is showing his importance at the top of the order long-term. Particularly, his strong on-base ability and timely hitting are putting the team in great scoring situations. In fact, he has contributed 31 runs scored already this season which puts him on a 100+ pace. With Kwan’s likely return soon it’s uncertain where Freeman’s role in the lineup will end up but it’s likely he’ll still add meaningful value to AL-only fantasy teams.

2. Ryan Bliss, SS, Mariners

So far Ryan Bliss has done very little in his much anticipated big league debut by going hitless in his first five at-bats. Though, this early struggle could present a prime buying opportunity at a bargain. While the tenure in the big leagues could be short, there’s incredible fantasy standout potential if his minor league production carries over to the big leagues. In the minor leagues, Ryan Bliss has been a five-tool standout with decent power, spectacular speed, and strong on-base abilities. Last season alone Bliss hit 23 home runs, stole 55 bases, and had an OBP of .378. The upside is too high to not make the speculative add while the waiver price is low.

NL-Only League Targets

1. Jeremiah Estrada, RP, Padres

What may end up as the most exciting and unexpected streak this season is Jeremiah Estrada’s consecutive batter struck out streak. Currently at 13 straight strikeouts, along with a 0.55 ERA so far, Estrada is making a historic rise to prominence. What’s interesting about this breakout is the fact there’s no proven track record. Last season Estrada had a 6.75 ERA in his 10.2 innings pitched for the Padres. Also, his minor league ERA was 5.97 last season as well. Regardless, Estrada is a smoking hot pitcher right now and can provide an immediate boost to pitching ratios in NL-only leagues or mixed leagues with holds as a category.

2. Brett Wisely, SS, Giants

The youth movement is in full swing now for the Giants with many recent promotions of key prospects. One player who wasn’t originally named in the budding prospect group but is now getting included is Brett Wisely. A 15th-round draft pick in 2019, Wisely displays an average toolset across the board. While his debut with the Giants in 2023 was underwhelming, he is making waves so far in 204. Albeit a small sample size of just 25 at-bats, Wisely is batting .400 so far with a home run, a steal, and six RBI. His tenure with the big league roster is uncertain but if he can keep hitting he may prove a valuable NL-only middle infield option.
