Deep League Waiver Wire Targets for Week 25

15-Team Mixed League Targets

1. Trey Sweeney, SS, Tigers

It would be hard to find a hitter that is hotter than Trey Sweeney has been over the last week. Right now, hot streaks can decide championship outcomes for contending teams. Over his last seven games, Sweeney is hitting .353 with a .421 OBP. Of his six hits in 17 at-bats, two were home runs and he’s produced five RBI. In addition, he’s chipped in a stolen base. The former first-round pick of the Yankees in 2021 has shown consistent power and speed production in the minors. It’s a safe bet that Sweeney can help with key counting stat contributions down the final stretch.

2. Thomas Saggese, SS, Cardinals

Entering this season Saggese was widely considered a top 5 prospect in the Cardinal’s farm system. Yet, early struggles at AAA led to a quick devaluation of his prospect stock in dynasty fantasy baseball circles. With another late-season resurgence, he’s not only regained his dynasty value but has found his way into mixed-league conversations. His recent promotion to the majors is a late-season prospect promotion that could fill key positional and production needs for deep league managers. Saggese’s best attribute is his potential to bring power from a middle infielder, as he hit seven home runs in August alone in AAA. He’s still very strike-out prone, but his power output brings serious upside in the short term.

AL-Only League Targets

1. Jordyn Adams, OF, Angels

Sometimes the ambitions an organization has for one player ends up materializing in a completely different player. The Angels are starting to see some of their aspirations with Jo Adell from other players. One of those players is Jordyn Adams, who has been thriving in the minor leagues this year. He’s found early success in his recent promotion to the majors as well. Adams doesn’t have the power potential of Adell, but he is far more consistent at the plate. His .261 average and 28 steals in the minors this season justified his promotion. Ironically, in just his third game with the Angels he hit a solo home run that capped off a two-hit night. Adams is worth a flyer to see if he can provide multi-category boosts for tenacious AL-only managers.

2. Kris Bubic, SP, Royals

If there’s one thing that Kris Bubic has been consistent at as a starting pitcher, it’s being inconsistent. Like many other failed starters turned effective relievers, Bubic is now starting to shine in his new role. In fact, he’s only unintentionally walked one batter since August 3. In that same time period he’s struck out 18 batters over 15 innings. Bubic is prone to giving up home runs but his 0.94 WHIP so far in September shows he’s effectively limiting damage. He’s worth a grab for the strike-out boost and ratio support while he’s locked in as a reliever.

NL-Only League Targets

1. Mike Siani, OF, Cardinals

The recent addition of Michael Siani to the Cardinals lineup defines going back to the future. The reason for this statement is that he replaced a younger version of himself with Victor Scott III as the everyday center fielder and speedster. Siani doesn’t have the same pedigree level as Scott III, but he’s more seasoned at the pro level. In fact, he’s already contributed his first stolen base for the Cardinals, adding his to total of 17 steals on the season. For NL-only managers desperate for steals, turn your focus to Michael Siani for a late season push in that category.

2. Dennis Santana, RP, Pirates

Dennis Santana’s recent string of scoreless appearances is taking attention from his rather subpar season overall. However, he’s found his way into the mix for occasional save or hold opportunities as of late for the Pirates. Given David Bednar’s recent volatility, Santana is now proving a key pitcher in higher leverages situations and amassing holds, with four over his last seven appearances along with a save to the middle of that same stretch. Santana has proved a worthy stash for NL-only managers seeking saves without risking key ratios in the last month.
