It’s getting to be last call to complete trades in most dynasty leagues. These dynasty baseball buys may still be available to add in your dynasty league for a playoff run or be nice additions for next year and beyond if you’re not in contention this season. Dynasty Baseball Buys
Jesús Sánchez, OF, Miami Marlins
Sanchez is in his fifth season in the majors and is still looking for his breakout season. He has shown glimpses of his potential in the past but still has never put it all together for a full season. In 2021, he hit 14 home runs with an .808 OPS in 251 plate appearances. However, he came crashing back down to Earth the following season, hitting .214 with a .682 OPS in 343 plate appearances.
Sanchez is slashing .242/.298/.426 this season, which isn’t overly impressive, but he has hit 17 home runs and swiped nine bags. According to his underlying metrics, he has been one of the unluckiest hitters this season. His expected slash line is .271/.352/.505. His exit velocity, barrel percentage, hard-hit percentage, and bat speed all rank in the 88th percentile or better this year. He has already set career highs in home runs, RBI, runs, and stolen bases. I would consider Sanchez a strong dynasty baseball buy.
DJ Herz, SP, Washington Nationals
Herz wasn’t exactly a hot commodity coming into this season. Even after he was called up, he didn’t exactly fly off the shelves in dynasty leagues. He put up solid numbers in the minors but was never mentioned as being one of the top pitching prospects or even as a consensus top-100 prospect. Herz always put up huge strikeout rates, but he has also had major issues with his command.
He has compiled a 3.84 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a whopping 83 strikeouts in 65.1 innings. However, his expected stats have been even better, his xERA is 3.35 and his SIERA is 3.50. Although, the most shocking statistic has been his improved control. He allowed 5.9 BB/9 for his career in the minors but has cut that down to 3.3 BB/9 in the majors. If he can continue that trend, it could make him a premier starting pitcher in fantasy leagues for years to come. He’s definitely a recommended dynasty baseball buy.
Dynasty Baseball Sells
Ryan Mountcastle, 1B, Baltimore Orioles
Mountcastle has been a very solid fantasy contributor for the last several years. In his first stint in the big leagues in 2020, he hit .333 with five home runs, 23 RBI, and an .878 OPS in 140 plate appearances. He smashed 33 home runs and had 89 RBI and finished sixth in the AL Rookie of the Year voting in 2021. He followed up that season with 22 home runs and 85 RBI in his sophomore year.
Mountcastle has seen his stats go downhill since his rookie season. His home runs and RBI have decreased every year since 2021. It’s not exactly a great time for Mountcastle to be having a subpar season. Baltimore seems to have most of their infield set next season with Jackson Holliday at second base, Gunnar Henderson at shortstop, and Jordan Westburg at third base. However, Mountcastle will have some stiff competition at first base in the form of Coby Mayo and Samuel Basallo next season. I think it would be wise to treat Mountcastle as a dynasty baseball sell as he could start to see a decrease in playing in the near future.
Jacob deGrom, SP, Texas Rangers
Jacob deGrom is on the verge of making his long-awaited comeback from Tommy John surgery. He has made two rehab starts and has looked spectacular with a 0.00 ERA, 0.50 WHIP, and five strikeouts in four innings. He has been one of the best starting pitchers in fantasy over the last decade. deGrom has won two Cy Young Awards and is a virtual lock to be a future first-ballot Hall of Famer.
Now I know what you’re saying, deGrom is 36 years old and is coming off of Tommy John surgery, he doesn’t have much dynasty value at this point. That is correct, he doesn’t hold much dynasty value at this stage of his career, but this may be the last chance you have to squeeze any last bit of value out of him. The last time deGrom threw more than 92 innings was all the way back in 2019. It is very likely he will never eclipse this amount of innings again in his career. You may be able to unload him to a contender in return for a solid prospect.
