Fantasy Basketball: Fringe Report – Marvin Williams

A busy night in the NBA with 10 games on the slate, however, not a lot of movement in terms of fringe fantasy player. One player who continued to thrive was Marvin Williams who drained a career-best seven three-pointers in a victory over the Detroit Pistons. Let’s dive into each game, looking as Williams and those other players who are making some fantasy noise.

Charlotte Hornets def. Detroit Pistons 98-86

Hornets

Marvin Williams (42%) – Add: Williams went off for a career-high seven three-pointers Friday, finishing with 24 points and a full line. Aside from a dud during a blowout loss to the Lakers, Williams has been putting up solid numbers on a nightly basis and is well worth a look in standard formats.

Miles Bridges (37%) – Drop: Bridges has scored in double-digits in just one of his past seven games and despite the upside, has no real value right now.

Guillermo Hernangomez (29%) – Drop: Hernangomez had 11 points in 20 minutes Friday, however, the playing time was likely due to Cody Zeller’s ongoing foul trouble throughout the game.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (24%) – Watch: Kidd-Gilchrist has scored 12 points in each of his last two games, averaging 21 minutes per game. Prior to this, he has been struggling and so he is simply worth keeping an eye on to see if he can build on these two performances.

Tony Parker (16%) – Drop

Pistons

Reggie Bullock (44%) – Add: Bullock was relatively quiet Friday but still ended with 11 points to go with a pair of steals. The fact he is rostered in just 44 percent of leagues appears as though it is going to change given his increase of 13.7 percent over the past week.

Stanley Johnson (27%) – Drop

Luke Kennard (25%) – Drop

Langston Galloway (13%) – Drop: Galloway’s time as a streamer appears to be over for now after having hit just five triples in his last four games.

Bruce Brown (9%) – Drop

Zaza Pachulia (8%) – Drop

Jon Leuer (4%) – Drop

Jose Calderon (3%) – Stream: Despite a poor performance Friday, Calderon has been playing at least 20 minutes per night and should be better than this moving forward.

Toronto Raptors def. Cleveland Cavaliers 126-110

Raptors

OG Anunoby (32%) – Watch: Anunoby had arguably his best game of the season Friday, finishing with 21 points and eight rebounds. He moved into the starting lineup as the Raptors went small to match up with the Cavaliers. We would need to see this again to start paying any attention.

Delon Wright (18%) – Watch: Wright has played at least 33 minutes in two of his last three games but is yet to really break out. The upside is there for Wright, making him also worth keeping an eye on.

Greg Monroe (15%) – Drop

Norman Powell (9%) – Drop: Powell played well Friday but is still working his way back from injury and can be ignored in most formats.

C.J. Miles (8%) – Drop

Chris Boucher (7%) – Drop

Malachi Richardson (3%) – Drop

Cavaliers

Alec Burks (26%) – Watch: Burks continues to play decent minutes despite struggling from the field. He has been able to contribute in a number of categories as a means of salvaging his value but is only worth watching to see if he can get thins going on the offensive end.

David Nwaba (13%) – Drop

Ante Zizic (12%) – Drop: Zizic scored 11 points in Friday’s loss but is still not worth picking up anywhere but the deepest of formats.

Jaron Blossomgame (8%) – Drop

Indiana Pacers def. Brooklyn Nets 114-106

Pacers

Cory Joseph (25%) – Drop

Aaron Holiday (18%) – Drop

Doug McDermott (12%) – Drop

Nets

DeMarre Carroll (39%) – Watch: Carroll scored at least 12 points for the fourth time in his last five games but added just four rebounds and no other stats. Despite the scoring, Carroll is simply someone to watch at this stage as his playing time is still uncertain from game-to-game.

Ed Davis (27%) – Stream: Davis has another 10 rebounds Friday as continues to be one of the more consistent rebounders in limited playing time.

Rodions Kurucs (15%) – Watch: Kurucs went off for a career-high 24 points Friday, continuing to fill in for the injured Allen Crabbe. Prior to this game, Kurucs had scored just 11 points in his last two games. If Crabbe misses the Nets next game, Kurucs could be worth streaming in as a sneaky source of points.

Jared Dudley (6%) – Watch: Much like Kurucs, Dudley is worth keeping an eye on as he has played at least 20 minutes in four straight games. He has scored in double-digits in three of those but one feels this type of production is likely unsustainable.

Atlanta Hawks def. New York Knicks 114-107

Hawks

Jeremy Lin (48%) – Watch: Lin has now scored at least 11 points in his last two games, adding eight rebounds and eight assists. His playing time is still hovering around the 20 minutes mark but he is worth keeping an eye on in standard formats.

Kevin Huerter (39%) – Add: Huerter had another solid performance Friday, scoring 16 points in 34 minutes. He has now played in excess of 31 minutes in five of his past six games and while there will be some struggles, he is worth adding in all 12-team leagues.

Alex Len (36%) – Watch: Len finished with 12 points and seven rebounds Friday, all coming in just 21 minutes of playing time. He has looked much better over the past week but is still firmly behind Dewayne Dedmon in the rotation.

DeAndre Bembry (34%) – Drop

Vince Carter (9%) – Drop

Daniel Hamilton (1%) – Drop

Knicks

Frank Ntilikina (38%) – Drop: As long as Emmanuel Mudiay is playing well, Ntilikina is going to struggle to have any value.

Damyean Dotson (26%) – Drop

Courtney Lee (14%) – Drop

Luke Kornet (5%) – Drop

Lance Thomas (2%) – Drop

Milwaukee Bucks def. Boston Celtics 120-107

Bucks

George Hill (35%) – Drop: Despite playing at least 23 minutes in four of his past five games, Hill simply isn’t doing enough to be considered in standard formats.

Thon Maker (14%) – Drop: Maker came out of nowhere to score 12 points, all coming from the three-point line. He had hit a total of three triples in his last seven games, so this should be viewed as nothing more than a lucky game for Maker.

Sterling Brown (10%) – Drop

D.J. Wilson (8%) – Drop

Tony Snell (7%) – Drop: Snell finished with double-digit scoring for the third straight game, scoring 15 points in the victory. Keep in mind they have all come on shooting in excess of 60 percent from the field which is likely unsustainable.

Celtics

Robert Williams (26%) – Stream: Williams played just eight minutes Friday in what was simply a terrible matchup. He still managed to block two shots and remains a player that should be streamed in for anyone that needs blocks.

Daniel Theis (14%) – Watch: Theis had some ok numbers Friday as the Celtics were thumped by the Bucks. It was hard to get a read on how his playing time will look moving forward given the fact Semi Ojeleye started.

Semi Ojeleye (6%) – Drop: Ojelye started and 10 points Friday in what was likely a matchup-based decision. There is a good chance he moves back to the bench for the next game and there is no need to get excited.

Guerschon Yabusele (5%) – Drop

Brad Wanamaker (3%) – Drop

Chicago Bulls def. Orlando Magic 90-80

Bulls

Ryan Arcidiacono (19%) – Watch: Kris Dunn suffered an ankle sprain during Friday game but was able to play through the injury. There is a chance the ankle swells up and if that is the case, Arcidiacono could be in line for some extra responsibility.

Chandler Hutchison (15%) – Drop

Shaquille Harrison (13%) – Watch: Much like Arcidiacono, Harrison could be in line for some extra playing time should Kris Dunn’s ankle injury flare up.

Robin Lopez (12%) – Drop: Lopez has clearly moved ahead of Cristiano Felicio in the rotation but is typically only going to have value when Wendell Carter is in foul trouble.

Antonio Blakeney (10%) – Drop

Magic

Jerian Grant (20%) – Drop

Wes Iwundu (5%) – Drop

Jarell Martin (4%) – Drop

San Antonio Spurs def. Minnesota Timberwolves 124-98

Spurs

Jakob Poeltl (39%) – Watch: Poeltl scored 12 points Friday, however, garbage time was certainly a factor.

Bryn Forbes (32%) – Stream: Forbes led the Spurs with 22 points in the blowout victory, his second straight game in double-figures. Forbes can be a nice source of points and threes and much like a number of his teammates, could be streamed in if required.

Patty Mills (26%) – Drop

Marco Belinelli (20%) – Stream: Belinelli is now averaging 13.0 points per game across his last eight games, also chipping in 2.9 triples. He doesn’t do much outside of those categories leaving him a more of a streamer than a permanent addition.

Davis Bertans (14%) – Stream: Bertans hit another five triples Friday, making him another Spur worth streaming in for three-pointers.

Dante Cunningham (9%) – Drop

Quincy Pondexter (1%) – Drop

Drew Eubanks (1%) – Drop

Timberwolves

Josh Okogie (20%) – Drop

Tyus Jones (17%) – Stream: Derrick Rose left Friday’s game early with ankle soreness and given his history, there is a chance he misses time. Jeff Teague is also out of action with an ankle injury, leaving Jones as the next man up. If indeed Rose does miss time, Jones should be streamed in if you need assists and steals.

Gorgui Dieng (15%) – Drop

Anthony Tolliver (8%) – Drop

Jerryd Bayless (2%) – Drop: Bayless played his first game for the Timberwolves, finishing with seven points in 12 minutes.  Even if Rose is forced to miss time, Bayless will likely be brought along slowly and has no real fantasy value.

James Nunnally (1%) – Drop

Utah Jazz def. Portland Trail Blazers 120-90

Jazz

Dante Exum (18%) – Drop: Exum handed out a season-high eight assists Friday but is too far down the pecking order to have any consistent value.

Kyle Korver (15%) – Stream: Korver is hot again, hitting seven three-pointers in his last two games. As long as he remains hot, Korver is worth streaming in if you need some cheap perimeter scoring.

Royce O’Neale (8%) – Drop

Thabo Sefolosha (4%) – Drop

Georges Niang (3%) – Drop

Raul Neto (3%) – Drop

Ekpe Udoh (3%) – Drop

Trail Blazers

Evan Turner (33%) – Drop: Of all the Trail Blazers fringe players, Turner appears to most likely to be able to put up anything close to resembling value. That being said, he is not worth adding unless there is an injury to someone in the starting lineup.

Zach Collins (32%) – Drop: Collins has been playing well before this one, in what was a bad game for a number of Trail Blazers. This kind of inconsistency is the reason Collins cannot be rostered in standard formats.

Moe Harkless (25%) – Drop: The Trail Blazers as a team possess very little fantasy value outside of just three players. Harkless continues to start but produces very little outside of some occasional defensive numbers.

Seth Curry (13%) – Drop

Nik Stauskas (12%) – Drop

Caleb Swanigan (9%) – Drop

Meyers Leonard (8%) – Drop

Wade Baldwin (6%) – Drop

Jake Layman (6%) – Drop

Sacramento Kings def. Memphis Grizzlies 102-99

Kings

Iman Shumpert (17%) – Drop

Justin Jackson (16%) – Drop: Jackson shifted to the bench Friday, finishing with eight points and three rebounds. Whether he starts or comes off the bench, Jackson has no value in standard leagues.

Yogi Ferrell (11%) – Drop

Kosta Koufos (8%) – Drop: Koufos replaced Justin Jackson in the starting lineup Friday but the move had little impact on his fantasy value.

Grizzlies

Garrett Temple (29%) – Stream: As hard as it is to believe, it could be time to start thinking about streaming Temple if he suits your needs. He scored 17 points Friday, recording double-digits for the fourth time in his last five games. He has also managed eight steals and six blocks in that time, leaving him as a useful asset for now.

Shelvin Mack (20%) – Drop: Mack had his best game in quite some time Friday, contributing across the board as the Grizzlies lost their fifth straight game. We would need to see some more of this before even considering him in standard formats.

MarShon Brooks (11%) – Drop

Jevon Carter (10%) – Drop

Wayne Selden Jr. (10%) – Drop

Los Angeles Lakers def. New Orleans Pelicans 112-104

Lakers

Tyson Chandler (15%) – Drop: Chandler came into the game with an illness and played just 16 minutes.

Ivica Zubac (9%) – Drop: Zubac exploded for season-high marks in just about every category, notching his first double-double of the season. JaVale McGee sat this one out with an illness which allowed Zubac to shift into the starting lineup. While this performance is nice, he will likely shift back to the third string center as soon as McGee returns.

Pelicans

Tim Frazier (28%) – Drop: After a period of standard league relevance, Frazier can now be dropped after another disappointing performance.

Frank Jackson (11%) – Drop

Darius Miller (9%) – Stream: The Pelicans are down on scorers at the moment and Miller has stepped up over the past few games. As long as he is playing decent minutes, he is worth a look as a source of points, threes, and steals.

Jahlil Okafor (9%) – Drop: After scoring 17 points against the Bucks, Okafor had just eight Friday. Julius Randle returned to the lineup which is going to impact Okafor’s opportunities.

Andrew Harrison (5%) – Drop

Kenrich Williams (2%) – Drop
