The center position has several of the best dynasty players in the league, but it lacks depth compared to other positions. From a dynasty standpoint, it is arguably the most shallow position in fantasy basketball. However, there are still plenty of young centers on the rise and a handful of potential breakouts who could work their way up the dynasty basketball center rankings in the not-too-distant future.
Dynasty Center Risers
Jarrett Allen has recently taken his game to another level and is quickly moving up the dynasty basketball center rankings. Over the last month, Allen has averaged 17.4 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.7 blocks per game. He is currently averaging a career-high in assists this season, which has added another dimension to his fantasy repertoire. If he can continue his high level of play, he will have a chance to crack the top 10 dynasty center rankings before the end of the season.
Isaiah Hartenstein has been forced to take on a bigger role with the Knicks due to the frontcourt injuries to Mitchell Robinson and Julius Randle and his fantasy production has excelled as a result. He is averaging 8.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.2 blocks over the last month. His scoring has been on the rise over his last five games, averaging 11.8 points per game. Robinson could be out for the rest of the season, which would give Hartenstein an extended look to showcase his fantasy skills. Even when Robinson returns from injury, Hartenstein has earned a sizable role going forward.
Dynasty Center Fallers
Robert Williams is a tremendous fantasy talent, but he just can’t seem to stay healthy. He has only played in 41 games combined over the last two seasons and has only eclipsed 55 games played one time in his six-year career. Williams is still only 26 years old, but if he continues to miss this much court time, he will quickly fade from the fantasy radar.
Wendell Carter Jr. has also had his issues staying on the court in his young career. He has only played 60+ games once before and he is now in his sixth season in the league. Carter Jr. has already missed 26 games this season, so his injury concerns still remain, but to further rub salt in the wound, he is averaging career lows in rebounds and blocks this season. At only 24 years old, he is probably not in any danger of being left off this list any time soon, but he could continue to slide down the dynasty center ranks if he doesn’t get healthy and turn things around.
Potential Dynasty Basketball Breakouts
Paul Reed will need to step up in a big way for the 76ers now that Joel Embiid will miss the next six to eight weeks. In the 13 games this season that he has received at least 20 minutes of playing time, Reed has averaged 11.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.3 steals and 1.5 blocks per game. If he can average something close to those numbers while Embiid is out, he will be a hot commodity in dynasty leagues considering he is still only 24 years old.
Precious Achiuwa is in a similar situation to Isaiah Hartenstein, needing to play big minutes in a depleted Knicks frontcourt. Since Julius Randle went down with a dislocated right shoulder, Achiuwa has averaged 13.2 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 1.4 blocks over the last five games. He is a restricted free agent after this season, so if he can take advantage of this situation right now and show some big-time potential, it could go a long way toward a team signing him to a big contract in the offseason and awarding him a substantial role next year.
