Fantasy Football 2022: Week 9 RB Rankings

Of all the bye weeks, Week 9 is taking one of the biggest hits on my RB rankings list. Saquon Barkley, Christian McCaffrey, Nick Chubb, Kareem, Hunt and Tony Pollard just to name a few. The Broncos backfield and Steelers backfield are also on byes this week.

The trade deadline also happened during Week 9, but surprisingly it didn’t shake up my RB rankings list. Mainly because Chase Edmonds was dealt, but to the Broncos. And Nyheim Hines was also dealt to the Bills, who are in a crowded backfield.

So on that note, let’s get into this week’s RB rankings.

Running Back Notes:

  • If you were one of the lucky ones to pick up Raheem Mostert early, now you look like a genius with the departure of Edmonds. However, Edmonds didn’t eat into Mostert’s carries while on the team. But, this move just solidifies that Mostert is the every down back in Miami. This week he is my RB13 going against the Chicago Bears. The Bears are giving up the fourth most fantasy points to running backs this year. Last week Pollard had three touchdowns on the Bears. This means Mostert is an RB1 this week.
  • Jonathan Taylor has been disappointing this year, to say the least. Hines is out of the picture, so that draws some hope that Taylor is healthy enough to be the workhorse. Zack Moss did come over in the trade with Hines, but I don’t expect him to be of any relevance. Yet, I still have Taylor as my RB12 this week. Since Week 1, Taylors highest scoring game is 12 fantasy points. He has a terrible matchup against the Patriots this week, and I would consider Taylor a flex option this week. He is still elite, but if the Colts can’t get a passing game going, then Taylor will suffer.
  • D’Onta Foreman is looking as if he could finish in the top 20 fantasy running backs this year. Right now he is RB40 on the year. In back-to-back games, he has 236 total rushing yards. Chuba Hubbard is expected to be back this week. But, I don’t think we will take over the starting role. Hubbard is a better pass catcher, but I believe Foreman is the better running back. Foreman does have a tough matchup against the Bengals this week and because of that, I have him as my RB16.
  • Lastly, I have Khalil Herbert as my RB23. I think Herbert should be the starter over David Montgomery, but that is beside the issue. Yet, Herbert is only on the field for 39% of the snaps and he scored above 15 fantasy points in back-to-back games. Montgomery did not surpass 15 fantasy points in his last two starts. This week the Bears have the Dolphins who are giving up 22.2 fantasy points per game to running backs. Herbert is a must-start at the flex option, as this will be a high-scoring game.
