Fantasy Football 2023: Week 5 Quarterback and Tight End Sleepers and Streamers

Once again, we are in the midst of an exciting NFL season. Now begins the process of setting the best lineup possible on a weekly basis. Each Thursday, we have you covered as we go through options at both the quarterback and tight end positions. Let us dig into some Week 5 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers along with some Week 5 Tight End Sleepers and Streamers.

Week 5 Quarterback Sleepers and Streamers

Quarterback Sleepers

Joshua Dobbs, Arizona Cardinals

Prior to the season, Joshua Dobbs was not expected to have any fantasy relevance. Instead, here we see Dobbs as one of our sleepers and streamers entering Week 5 as things have certainly evolved.

Before we go any further though, it should be noted that this is the first week of byes. That means options are reduced as there are also more than a few quarterbacks that are underperforming so far. The opposite is true for Dobbs, and he also has a good matchup against Cincinnati on Sunday.

With 265 passing yards and two touchdowns, Dobbs is coming off his best game of the season. While Arizona doesn’t ask too much of Dobbs, he has yet to throw an interception this season. And did we mention that he has 144 rushing yards in the last three games?

Zach Wilson, New York Jets

I hope I really don’t regret this one. Again, it is Zach Wilson and the Jets though so it is very possible.

In taking an objective look at this though, all signs do point to a big afternoon for Wilson. After all of the criticism and ill will generated by Sean Payton towards their offensive coordinator this summer, New York will be fired up to avenge Nathanial Hackett’s name.

Even based on what we are seeing on the field though, it should be a big week for Wilson. In facing the Broncos, Wilson gets the worst defense in the league against opposing quarterbacks. So even without the external motivation, this would be a big deal.

Two weeks ago, Wilson showed some flashes on one scoring drive, but last week, he did take things up a notch. New York ultimately came up a field goal short against Kansas City, but Wilson gave us something to believe in. For the second straight week, Wilson failed to throw an interception as he picked up 245 yards through the air with two touchdown passes. The overall package of the Jets’ offense looked better last week, and this should continue.

If you need any additional proof, Justin Fields threw for four touchdowns last week against Denver.

Quarterback Streamers

Sam Howell, Washington Commanders

The Chicago Bears are one of the worst defenses in the league. While this one does require an early decision with the Commanders playing on Thursday, Sam Howell is worth a look as one of our sleepers and streamers.

Between Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, and Curtis Samuel, Howell has three strong weapons to target downfield. Additionally, he benefits from a strong running game led by Brian Robinson. After throwing four interceptions against the Buffalo Bills in Week 3, Howell bounced back with 290 passing yards and a touchdown last week against the Eagles.

For Week 5, things get even easier for Howell against the aforementioned Bears.

Matthew Stafford, Los Angeles Rams

While it is still unclear if Cooper Kupp will return to action on Sunday, Matthew Stafford still has found enough weapons in the passing game. This weak, the veteran benefits from a good matchup against a Philadelphia Eagles team that is one of the worst in the league against opposing fantasy quarterbacks.

Yes, the Eagles do have a strong pass rush, but it hasn’t slowed down opposing quarterbacks to this point. Stafford has eclipsed the 300-yard passing mark in three of four games so far this season. With three touchdowns and five interceptions on the season, there is a limit to Stafford’s value. In a week and situation like this though, the fact that we don’t have to worry about volume from Stafford makes a difference.

Week 5 Tight End Sleepers and Streamers

Tight End Sleepers

Tyler Conklin, New York Jets

If we are going to target Zach Wilson, might as well go all in here. It should not come as a surprise, but Denver also happens to be pretty bad against opposing tight ends this season.

Last week, Tyler Conklin came very close to hauling in a touchdown pass against the Chiefs. After being targeted just once in Week 1, Conklin has been targeted five or six times in each of the last three weeks. Over that stretch, Conklin has caught 12 passes for 134 yards. Moving forward, he figures to have a role in the Jets’ offense as there appears to be chemistry between Wilson and Conklin. Additionally, Wilson has also been spreading the ball around as of late.

Luke Musgrave, Green Bay Packers

Last Thursday, there were a lot of interesting observers banking on Luke Musgrave’s production. It was a great matchup as Musgrave was facing a Detroit team that has struggled against tight ends.

Instead, we got one reception for one yard out of the rookie before he was forced out of action with a concussion. There is some risk here as the Packers don’t play until Monday, Musgrave did return to practice on Tuesday. Musgrave was coming off the best game of his young career with six receptions for 49 yards on eight carries.

Everything that we liked about Musgrave last week to make him one of our sleepers and streamers still applies for Week 5.

Tight End Streamers

Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills

In case it isn’t clear by this point, the tight end position is pretty dire this week.

Dawson Knox has had a tough year to this point, and he is limited in practice this week with a quad injury. Last week, Knox was only targeted once for 12 yards and it was the second straight week in which he caught just one pass.

We do have a favorable matchup this week against the Jaguars, and Kincaid allows us to take advantage of that. It is clear that Buffalo is working on getting the rookie more and more involved in their offense. Last week, Kincaid caught four of his five targets for 27 yards and I would expect him to be busy once again. From a talent perspective, Kincaid sits at the top of the list.

Chigoziem Okonkwo, Tennessee Titans

Between name recognition and talent, Chigoziem Okonkwo will always be an option for those looking to plug a hole. The Titans offense is still looking to find their footing, but we cannot question Okonkwo’s role.

Okonkwo has yet to be targeted more than four times per game, but he has also been efficient. It’s not like the Titans have been successful this year, so they should be taking through the air. When given the targets, Okonkwo has shown that he can produce.
