Sleepers and streamers had a 50% hit rate in Week 4. I need to be better and hit 100% out of four players. Tank Dell did not deliver as the entire world thought he would. Also, Tutu Atwell had nine targets but turned that into five receptions for just 24 yards.
In Week 5, we have four receivers with match-ups I think they can take advantage because of the defense having eyes on the other weapons. Three of these receivers have taken a step up with teammates hurt or not producing enough. Here are Week 5’s sleepers and streamers.
Week 5 Wide Receiver Sleepers and Streamers
Wide Receiver sleepers
Alec Pierce vs. Tennessee Titans
Week 4 for the Indianapolis Colts saw them coming back down with Anthony Richardson leading the way. They came up short in overtime, but the message was clear, Richardson is becoming one of the most valuable dynasty assets and on a path to finish as a top-five QB in 2023.
Alec Pierce is one of the receivers who should be set to grow with Richardson as the season progresses. Pierce is seeing the second most routes ran behind his teammate, Michael Pittman Jr. Pierce saw just one catch for 38 yards in Week 4. The volume of routes he is running with a 95.8% target snap share makes him an intriguing sleeper against a weak Titans pass defense.
Even with a Bengals team trying to find a spark with a hobbled Joe Burrow, Bengals’ receivers put up 165 yards in Week 4. All in all, the Steelers have given up the fifth most receiving yards this season. This will lead to Richardson posting his most passing yards yet and Pierce having a top-24 finish in Week 5. Pierce is one of my favorite sleepers out of all the match-ups in Week 5.
Romeo Doubs @ Las Vegas Raiders
First of all, Christian Watson is labeled as the Packers WR1 but that could change soon. Yes, Watson played in his first game this season. Yet, being down for most of the game, Watson delivered an 11.8% target share and just 10.5 fantasy points. Doubs had 13 targets to Watson’s four and 18.5 fantasy points.
Doubs had the fifth-most air yards and the sixth-most yards after the catch in Week 4. Jordan Love has established Doubs as his go-to guy. The pleasant thing about Week 4 was that Doubs was tied for the second most targets among all receivers in Week 4. Furthermore, with Christian Watson back, Doubs has carved out a role.
In addition, with a Week 5 match-up against an average pass defense (36.1 ppg, 16th most), Doubs should see another 30% target share in Week 5. With another great performance, Romeo Doubs will be seen on the sleepers and streamers but on the streaming side.
Wide Receiver streamers
Zay Flowers @ Pittsburgh Steelers
To begin with, the Steelers have gotten not just torched, but humiliated by receivers in 2023. Nico Collins in Week 4, Davante Adams in Week 3, Amari Cooper in Week 2, and Brandon Aiyuk in Week 1. In summary, the Steelers are not having a fun time defending the pass.
Those four receivers combined for over 550 yards. Furthermore, Zay Flowers’ masterclass is incoming. The Ravens offense was finally clicking against a very formidable Browns defense. Now, Lamar Jackson and company face this suspect Steelers pass defense.
Christian Kirk vs. Buffalo Bills
Jacksonville gets to hang out in London for another week. Also, the Buffalo Bills are making the travel to face them in Week 5 which will be the Jaguars’ hardest test so far. Calvin Ridley has not been the same since his fabulous Week 1 outing. Since then, his routes have stayed similar but the production has taken a significant hit.
Ridley has gone from 24.1 fantasy points to just 24 points in Weeks 2-4. On the other hand, Christian Kirk had less than two fantasy points in Week 1. Now, he has had 15 points in three consecutive weeks. With the Bills losing Tre’Davious White for the season, the Bills already down a safety will now be down their number one cornerback.
Kirk has also seen more routes than Ridley and has established himself as a flex play with WR2 upside in a match-up the Jaguars need to put up 25 plus points to beat the Bills.
To get spicy, my bold prediction is that Christian Kirk exceeds the flex/WR2 thoughts with a top-12 finish as Ridley once again is not himself and Trevor Lawrence has to match Josh Allen’s yards.
Christian Kirk is my favorite receiver out of sleepers and streamers in Week 5.
