All in all, this was such a fun season for Starts and Sits. A few players made it more than once such as Tank Dell, Rachaad White, Zack Moss, and a handful of others. The most important week of the Fantasy Football season has finally arrived. Week 14 is when seeds are clinched, playoff spots are won, and heartbreak is guaranteed. Here is the final Starts and Sits article for the 2023 Fantasy Football season.
Week 14 Starts and Sits
Quarterback Sits
CJ Stroud @ New York Jets
CJ Stroud is the offensive Rookie Of The Year. With that being said, he gets his toughest test in year 1. The New York Jets have allowed the seventh-fewest ppg to Quarterbacks the past month. In four games, the Jets have given up on average 198 ypg to the position. CJ Stroud averages 295 ypg. This match-up is too risky to have Stroud in your lineup despite the stellar rookie season. Chances are you drafted Stroud at the end of your draft or picked him up off the waiver wire. Start the guy you drafted in the middle of your rounds with the playoffs on the line.
Jared Goff @ Chicago Bears
First of all, Jared Goff against the Bears is not a fun time. Goff averages 221 ypg with 12 touchdowns and 8 interceptions in eight games against the Bears in his career. In his last game against the Bears, he had two touchdowns but three interceptions and a QB16 finish. That game was at home and the game in Week 14 is in Chicago. It will be cold and windy which means the running game for both teams might be in full effect on Sunday.
Running Back Sits
Rachaad White @ Atlanta Falcons
Rachaad White has finished as an RB1 in every game but two since Week 7. It will be game three this Sunday against one of the best run defenses of the past month in the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons are giving up 13.93 fantasy ppg which is the second fewest in the past four weeks. White has been dominating the fantasy football landscape for running backs. Currently, sitting as the RB10 on a ppg basis, White will finish the season strong, but just not in this tough divisional game in Week 14.
D’Andre Swift @ Dallas Cowboys
D’Andre Swift will be not making my starting lineup in leagues that I roster him. He got hurt in the domination game by the San Francisco 49ers and now plays the Dallas Cowboys. An RB25 finish is all we got from Swift in Week 9 against the Cowboys. Spots like these are crucial and Swift will be benched this week in what should be a high-scoring game won through the air.
Wide Receiver Sits
Nico Collins @ New York Jets
First, this is simply in correlation to sitting CJ Stroud this week. The expectation is that Stroud will have a poor game and in turn, Nico Collins will also underperform. The Jets are allowing the fourth-fewest fantasy ppg to Wide Receivers with just two touchdowns given up the past month. With a lockdown defense for most of the season, the Jets are a nightmare matchup for opposing Wide Receivers and Collins’ managers should tread lightly.
Cooper Kupp @ Baltimore Ravens
The Ravens will zone in on the start of another offense and make him vanish. I think Cooper Kupp will vanish in Week 14 and the Ravens will obliterate the Los Angeles Rams. Since his WR4 finish in Week 6, Cooper Kupp has not finished as a WR1. His Week 13 WR18 finish was his highest since his Week 6 WR4 finish. Kupp and the Rams are not clicking together and I want no part of him in my lineups with the playoffs on the line. At this rate, it is not too crazy to say you will take Puka Nacua over Cooper Kupp for the rest of the season.
Tight End Sits
Pat Freiermuth vs. New England Patriots
Pat Freiermuth was quiet in Week 13 after his big 120-yard performance in Week 12. The Patriots are allowing less than six fantasy ppg to the Tight End position. Allowing just 19 ypg to the position, there is nothing to say about this matchup for Freiermuth but to STAY AWAY
Evan Engram @ Cleveland Browns
Evan Engram secured his first touchdown of the season in Week 13. Although Engram has been a TE1 all season long, the matchup in Week 14 is dangerous. The Browns have allowed just 107 yards on eight receptions. With an average of 13.3 ypc, I do not trust the chances of Engram finishing as a TE1, especially with the high chance Trevor Lawrence misses out. Start guys like Jake Ferguson over Engram in Week 14.
Quarterback Starts
Gardner Minshew @ Cincinnati Bengals
Gardner Minshew has seen consecutive games with over 40 pass attempts. In his last five games, three of those games saw 41 or more pass attempts. He gets the Bengals in Week 14 who have given up the fifth most fantasy ppg the past month. The connection Minshew has made with Michael Pittman Jr makes him a borderline QB1 depending on the match-up on a week-to-week basis. Give Minshew a chance and let Uncle Rico take you to the playoffs.
Jordan Love @ New York Giants
Jordan Love has had four consecutive QB1 weeks. The passing volume in the Green Bay Packers’ offense has also gone up. In the first eight weeks, Love attempted 234 passes. From Week’s 9-13, Love has attempted 174 pass attempts. Love can very well be leading teams to fantasy titles in a month with a favorable playoff schedule. It starts against a team that has been allowing the ninth most fantasy ppg to Quarterbacks the past month. Love has had ten touchdowns to just two interceptions in the past four games and is deserving of being a QB1 for the rest of the season.
Running Back Starts
Zack Moss @ Cincinnati Bengals
Although Zack Moss has not done much in the two weeks since Jonathan Taylor’s injury. Moss had a matchup against the Tennessee Titans. A team he dominated the first time with an RB2 finish that week. In Week 14, Moss gets a softer matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals gave up 17.9 points to Travis Etienne. The Bengals still have allowed the sixth most rushing yards over the past month in total. Moss, along with Gardner Minshew are set to deliver big weeks for managers as the Colts at 7-5 are surprising everyone this season.
Joe Mixon vs. Indianapolis Colts
Joe Mixon had a fantastic game in Week 13. Mixon had 29.7 fantasy points in Week 13 and should continue to see a good workload with Jake Browning in at Quarterback. The Colts just gave up 25 fantasy points to Derrick Henry and have been giving up 25.30 fantasy points the past month to the position. Mixon is a top-12 Running Back and should be started in Week 14.
Javonte Williams @ Los Angeles Chargers
We had a Javonte Williams 20-point game back in Week 10. In Week 14, we get the massive Javonte Williams breakout game. Rhamondre Stevenson had nine carries for 39 yards before getting hurt early in the first quarter against the Chargers. Stevenson would have finished as a top-10 Running Back if it were not for the ankle injury. Javonte Williams will have 25 or more fantasy points against a bottom-five run defense with 23.86 ppg allowed to Running Backs.
Wide Receiver Starts
Christian Watson @ New York Giants
Christian Watson is doing it again. After another slow start to the season, Watson has had three consecutive weeks with a touchdown. He had two touchdowns in Week 13. Watson came off his best game of the season against a great Chiefs defense with 27.6 fantasy points. Now, he gets a matchup that all Wide Receivers would love to have. The New York Giants have given up the MOST fantasy ppg to Wide Receivers in the past month. At 51.4o ppg, the Packers receiving core, starting with Watson, should have a monster game Monday night. Watson did experience a hamstring issue late in Week 13 so monitor his health as the weekend approaches.
Jakobi Meyers vs. Minnesota Vikings
Jakobi had a nice three-week stretch from Weeks 5-7 and then cooled off. He then had a great Week 12 with 20.1 fantasy points and then the bye week came for the Raiders. The Vikings are in Las Vegas and they have been a bottom ten team in terms of fantasy ppg to Wide Receivers this season. Meyers along with Adams are both set to finish inside the top 20 and he is a fantastic flex option.
Courtland Sutton @ Los Angeles Chargers
At 39.12 fantasy ppg to Wide Receivers and 150 receptions on the season, the Chargers are a bottom-three pass defense. Receivers enjoy playing the Chargers because chances are a lot of points and yards will be seen. Courtland Sutton is having his best season since 2019. He currently has nine touchdowns. He had 14 touchdowns in the previous five years. Sutton is a top 15 Wide Receiver in Week 14 as I expect a lot of points in this game with Wilson’s connection with Sutton for at least one touchdown and 60 yards.
Tight End Starts
Jake Ferguson vs. Philadelphia Eagles
With not a ton of matchups besides the lineup locks in Travis Kelce and Sam LaPorta, I have just one Tight End start in Starts and Sits. Jake Ferguson has been fantastic this season. He had an ADP of TE23 in the off-season and is currently the TE7 in ppg. He had 22.1 fantasy points and a TE4 finish the last time they played the Eagles. With the division lead on the line, I expect another epic showdown and Ferguson to find himself scoring a touchdown and being a top-five play at the position in Week 14.
Final Thoughts
Thank you to everyone who has read these Starts and Sits pieces. If they helped you in any way, my job has been done. I hope you dominate your league playoffs and if you missed out, you come back with an epic revenge tour. Let’s capture these championships, everyone!
