This week’s fantasy hockey waiver wire features some very good young talent that you should consider adding to your team. These players are great streams and strong options to keep on your roster beyond Sunday. With some surging players on some surging teams, get them while they’re hot. Here are three forwards to stream in fantasy hockey this week.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Forwards to Consider for Week 6
Connor McMichael, Washington Capitals
Connor McMichael is proving to be the real deal in Washington. While the top line with Alex Ovechkin is rolling, McMichael is dominating right behind him on the second line. He gets top power-play time and has found nice chemistry with Pierre-Luc Dubois and Tom Wilson. McMichael is already at 10 goals and 16 points in 14 games.
Very surprisingly, the young forward only has one power-play point, but that is going to increase. When it does, it will be hard to see his points fall off very much. McMichael is shooting a ton and already halfway to his goal and point totals from last season in 80 games. He may not hit or block very many shots, but since his 5-on-5 play has been so good, his +/- is high. If he is still available after his very hot start, do not hesitate to add him. The Capitals play the Toronto Maple Leafs, Colorado Avalanche, and Vegas Golden Knights this week.
Gabriel Vilardi, Winnipeg Jets
Gabriel Vilardi is one of many contributing and enjoying the success that has come with being a part of the record-breaking Winnipeg Jets so far this season. He is on the top line with Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele while also getting to center the top power-play unit. Vilardi has six goals and 13 points in 15 games. Five points have come on the power play and he has shot 32 times this season. Other than scoring, which is a pretty big part of fantasy hockey, he doesn’t contribute a ton.
Vilardi has really picked up his game after a slower and less impactful start though. He is on a seven-game point streak in which he has recorded five goals and nine points (three on the power play) while adding 22 shots. The Jets play the New York Rangers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Florida Panthers. It won’t be an easy task, but one team has stopped the Jets so far through 15 games and there has been a lot of scoring.
JJ Peterka, Buffalo Sabres
JJ Peterka really broke out last season with 28 goals and 50 points, but he is building on that to start this season and it only looks better. He is already at seven goals and 14 points through 14 games. The 22-year-old has been hot over the last week, scoring three goals and six points in four games with three of those points coming on the power play.
Peterka plays on the top line with Tage Thompson and Alex Tuch as well as the top power-play unit. Once again, this isn’t necessarily a week that we are highlighting power forwards or physical players as Peterka isn’t either of those. With a game already played against the Montreal Canadiens in which he scored again, the Buffalo Sabres have two more games this week, but both games are against weaker opponents, the St. Louis Blues and Philadelphia Flyers. Look for Peterka to continue rolling
