The waiver wire is a great way to add hidden gems and overlooked players to your fantasy hockey club. This is true whether you plan to have them as short-term or long-term parts of your fantasy hockey roster. Now that we are over two months into the season, we better understand which waiver-wire goalies are worth snagging. Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Goalies to Consider for Week 11
Pyotr Kochetkov, Carolina Hurricanes
The Carolina Hurricanes recently placed Antti Raanta on waivers. Because of this, young goaltender Pyotr Kochetkov will get far more starts from here. The 24-year-old has played very well recently, too. In his last appearance against the Detroit Red Wings, he saved 25 out of 26 shots. In his start before that against the Ottawa Senators, he had 31 saves on 32 shots. Due to his hot stretch of play and now bigger role, he’s a clear waiver-wire goalie to add.
Kochetkov has the tools to be a strong starting NHL netminder. He has had success at the AHL level and has shown promise with the Canes. Due to this, don’t be afraid to take a chance on him as a waiver-wire addition.
Scott Wedgewood, Dallas Stars
Scott Wedgewood is another waiver-wire goalie whom fantasy managers should keep an eye on. Dallas Stars starting goaltender Jake Oettinger suffered an injury last week and is expected to miss time. Due to this, Wedgewood will get plenty of starts from here and is in a position to succeed. Thus, if you have confidence in him, get him as a waiver-wire pickup.
Wedgewood is having a decent season as the Stars’ backup, posting a 6-1-0 record and .904 SV% in nine appearances. He also recently had a big game against the Senators on Dec. 15, posting 25 saves on 27 shots in relief for Oettinger. He is continuing to play well, so he warrants consideration as a waiver-wire goaltender for Week 11.
Martin Jones, Toronto Maple Leafs
Martin Jones also should be getting a good amount of attention as a waiver-wire goaltender for Week 11, too. Since being called up to the NHL roster with Joseph Woll out, the veteran has been excellent. He posted a .900 SV% and a .903 SV% in his first two starts since his call-up. However, he was dominant against the Pittsburgh Penguins in his latest appearance on Dec. 16, posting a 38-save shutout.
After a stellar performance like this, Jones is a waiver-wire goalie to bring in if still available. He has looked great in his first three games as a Maple Leaf. With that, if he keeps this up, he may start getting more starts than the struggling Ilya Samsonov. This would only make him a more valuable asset for your fantasy hockey roster.
Nevertheless, it is clear that fantasy managers have some strong waiver-wire goaltenders to consider for Week 11. Kochetkov, Wedgewood, and Jones are all in line for bigger roles and have looked very good as of late. It will be fun to see if they are able to keep this kind of play up from here.
