The waiver wire is a great way to add hidden gems and overlooked players to your fantasy hockey club. This remains true whether you plan to have them as short-term or long-term parts of your fantasy hockey roster. Now that we are three months into the season, we better understand which waiver-wire goalies are worth snagging. As a result, here are three waiver-wire goalies worth adding to your roster in Week 14.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Goalies to Consider for Week 14
Martin Jones, Toronto Maple Leafs
The Toronto Maple Leafs have had a tough season with their goaltending. Starter Joseph Woll has been out for multiple weeks due to injury. Ilya Samsonov’s poor play resulted in him being waived and then demoted to the AHL. Yet, veteran goaltender Martin Jones is stepping up big-time, and Toronto is winning because of it. With that, his play is only getting better, so he’s a waiver-wire goalie to add in Week 14.
Since the start of 2024, Jones has had a .958 SV% or better in three straight starts. With that, he notably had a 31-save shutout against the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 2. It is clear that the 33-year-old is confident, and he keeps having excellent performances because of it. Due to this, he is worth bringing in as a waiver-wire addition.
Lukas Dostal, Anaheim Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks are having a tough season, but this was expected because they are rebuilding. Yet, even with this being so, Lukas Dostal is starting to be a real bright spot for them. In his Jan. 3 start against the Maple Leafs, Dostal set a Ducks record by making a whopping 55 saves on 57 shots. He showed off his high potential in this one and warrants consideration as a waiver-wire addition because of it.
Dostal had been trending in the right direction before this start against the Leafs, too. On Dec. 21 against the Calgary Flames, he saved 41 out of 43 shots. He has the tools to be a big difference-maker even on a bad Ducks team, and he is continuing to look like the goalie of the future for Anaheim. Because of this and his hot stretch of play, there’s no harm in taking a chance on him as a waiver-wire addition in Week 14.
Jesper Wallstedt, Minnesota Wild
The Minnesota Wild made headlines this week, calling up top prospect Jesper Wallstedt to their NHL roster. The Wild selected the 6-foot-3 goalie in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. The expectation is that he is going to be a star goalie in the NHL. Thus, with him getting called up to the Wild, he’s a waiver-wire goalie to consider.
Wallstedt has been excellent in the AHL this season, posting an 11-9-0 record, a .917 SV%, and a 2.54 GAA in his first 20 starts. He has earned this call-up because of it, and it will be fun to see if he can replicate this play in the NHL. Given his high potential, he warrants consideration as a waiver-wire addition.
Nevertheless, Week 14 gives us some solid choices when it comes to waiver-wire goaltenders. Jones and Dostal have been playing wonderfully, while Wallstedt is an intriguing prospect getting his first chance. Let’s see how these three perform from here.
