The waiver wire is a great place to find hidden gems that will help your fantasy hockey team in the short term and sometimes the long term as well. You have likely already taken advantage of this through the first 15 weeks of the NHL season. Regardless, there will still be strong options on the waiver wire at forward that we will look at. Even if it is only for a few games, these players are worth adding to help your team out. This is the place where you can find good options to take advantage of before anyone else in your league does.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Forwards to Consider for Week 16
Brayden Schenn, St. Louis Blues
Brayden Schenn is one of those all-around players that are good to have on your fantasy hockey team if they are producing points. While he will still contribute in all other areas, he plays on the power play and has proven he can put up points. That is what Schenn has done as of late and why he’s worth the add.
After going pointless in 12 consecutive games, Schenn has two goals and six points in six games, producing offensively in five of those games. Coming along with his offense is production on the power play. He recorded a power-play point in three consecutive games. On top of that, he took a couple of penalties, recorded at least five shots in two of his previous six games, had two hits in four of them, and at least one block in four of those games as well. On a line with Jake Neighbours and Brandon Saad, they can score a good deal at times. The St. Louis Blues play four times this week against the Calgary Flames, Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Kraken, and Los Angeles Kings. He’ll have a maximum amount of games to show his value, and if he was worth it, you already have him on your roster for the week after.
Charlie Coyle, Boston Bruins
Charlie Coyle isn’t exactly one-dimensional when it comes to fantasy hockey, but he does score in bunches. That streaky offensive play might go away now though as he’s currently lining up between David Pastrnak and Brad Marchand on the first line. Even though he doesn’t get a whole lot of power-play time, he will still greatly benefit by playing with the two best forwards on the team at five-on-five.
Over Coyle’s past four games, he has two goals and four assists. You will likely really be able to count on assists from him playing with Pastrnak and even Marchand. The Bruins play four times this week, facing the Winnipeg Jets, Carolina Hurricanes, Ottawa Senators, and Philadelphia Flyers. After the Jets, the goaltending for the opponents is a bit shaky, especially recently, so points should be flowing. Coyle could even turn into a longer-term option if he stays on the top line for a while.
Cam Atkinson, Philadelphia Flyers
Cam Atkinson went away points-wise for nearly two months, but he’s back with a vengeance. The Flyers have picked up their play, and along with that, so has the right winger. In his past five games, he has four goals and four assists, two of which have come on the power play. The second line of the Flyers is playing very well, and that includes Atkinson, Joel Farabee, and Morgan Frost. You should be looking to ride that hot streak.
The Flyers match up against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Detroit Red Wings, and Bruins, so it’s not the easiest opponents. They are also not the toughest. Boston will be the real test, but with how Atkinson and his line are playing, they should be able to get high-danger chances and opportunities. He doesn’t hit much or take very many penalties, but he can shoot the puck. In his past five games, he has fired off nine and six shots.
Players that may seem like great waiver wire pickups could fade quickly, while others could turn out to be great for a long time. These three players appear to be strong options in Week 16 of the fantasy hockey season among those who should be available. Take advantage before it is too late and make sure to check in with us next week for more strong options.
