Fantasy Hockey Week 17 Goalie Streams – 01/29/24

The 17th week of the 2023-24 NHL season is beginning and there are strong goalie options to add. Whether you need netminders for your fantasy hockey team just this week or maybe for a bit longer, we’ll cover the best netminders to pick up. When looking for goalie streams in fantasy hockey, it’s best to look at back-to-backs and if there are injuries to starters. That’s what we have for you here today, a look at the three best options in net to stream in Week 17 of the fantasy hockey season. Be sure to note that Week 17 of fantasy hockey lasts two weeks as there are bye weeks and the All-Star Break.

Fantasy Hockey Week 17 Goalie Streams

Mackenzie Blackwood, San Jose Sharks

While many goalies are likely on other fantasy team rosters, the bad teams’ goalies are more often than not sitting on the waiver wire. Sometimes these goalies do have good games too, especially on the San Jose Sharks where the goaltenders have to really help the team win. Mackenzie Blackwood has been solid this season considering he is just on the worst team in the league, so he’s not worth holding on your roster. As a streamer in certain circumstances though, he’s worth a look.

The start of the first week before the All-Star game isn’t very busy at all, but the Sharks play twice. The first game comes against the Seattle Kraken, and the second against the Anaheim Ducks. Neither of these teams is very strong or has been doing well recently. The Kraken have lost five of their past six games and only won against the shorthanded Chicago Blackhawks.  As for the Ducks, they have lost 13 of their past 18 games and four of their past six. The Sharks also beat them in their previous game. Blackwood has won two of his past three games with a .933 SV% and three of his past five. He is a solid early-week option.

Laurent Brossoit, Winnipeg Jets

The Winnipeg Jets are one of the top teams in the NHL and don’t have a very tough schedule this next fantasy week. While they play three times and not on any back-to-backs, Laurent Brossoit should get in one of those games to give Connor Hellebuyck more rest down the stretch. This is also because Brossoit has played very well this season.

The Jets match up against the Pittsburgh Penguins twice and the Philadelphia Flyers once. The Flyers have been getting blown out of the water and are falling fast while the Penguins are the most inconsistent team in the NHL and struggling to score. Brossoit has a .926 SV% and 2.07 GAA on the season, which is very strong. When he starts, he makes them count. He is 4-0-1 in his previous five starts and has a .951 SV% with only seven goals allowed in those games. If and when he plays, he is a must-add.

Scott Wedgewood, Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars have been rolling along and now have their Norris-caliber defenseman back in the lineup, Miro Heiskanen. This means that their net will be protected even better, so the goaltenders should perform better because of it. While Jake Oettinger is the starter and will get more starts, Scott Wedgewood has been solid this season and played a big role earlier in the season when Oettinger went down to injury.

The Stars have a fairly weak schedule ahead of them with the Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Montreal Canadiens ahead of them. Wedgewood will play in the back-to-back with the Sabres and Maple Leafs. He could realistically play in either one of them. The Maple Leafs have had no depth scoring recently and the Sabres have struggled to score and win all season. Either isn’t the worst matchup Wedgewood, on a Stars team that is hot, can face.

Make sure to take advantage of these goalies for this week. The longer you wait, the more of a chance someone you may want is picked up before you get to them. There are early games that you will want to take advantage of as well. While a couple of these goaltenders should get at least one start this week, be sure to keep an eye on any other options throughout the week that may become solid options as well.
