The waiver wire is a great way to add hidden gems and overlooked players to your fantasy hockey club. This remains true whether you plan to have them as short-term or long-term parts of your fantasy hockey roster. Now that we are almost four months into the season, we better understand which waiver-wire defensemen are worth snagging. As a result, here are three waiver-wire defensemen to add to your roster in Week 18.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Defensemen to Consider for Week 18
Mikhail Sergachev, Tampa Bay Lightning
The Tampa Bay Lightning are getting a big boost to their blue line. Mikhail Sergachev is expected to return to the lineup after missing almost two months with a lower-body injury. With Sergachev being a high-impact defenseman returning from injury, he’s an obvious waiver-wire addition to make if he’s still available in your league.
Sergachev, 25, had a decent start to the season, posting 19 points in his first 33 games. However, when noting that he had a 64-point campaign in 79 games last season, he has the potential to produce even more now that he’s healthy. Thus, he’s the perfect kind of waiver-wire addition to make if other fantasy managers have not scooped him back up.
Darren Raddysh, Tampa Bay Lightning
Another Lightning defenseman who is a waiver-wire addition to consider is Darren Raddysh. The 27-year-old has cemented himself as an NHLer this season due to his solid all-around play. In 50 games, he has set new career highs in goals (four), assists (14), and points (18). Yet, what’s more encouraging is that he is only getting better as the season carries on. Thus, he’s a player to consider adding to your fantasy hockey roster for this week.
Raddysh has been producing well offensively, as he has three points over his last three games. Now that the Lightning are coming back from their All-Star break, his goal will be to keep it going. Given how well he has looked as of late, he certainly has the potential to. Due to this, don’t be afraid to take a chance on him as a waiver-wire pickup in Week 18.
K’Andre Miller, New York Rangers
Another waiver-wire defenseman whom fantasy hockey managers should keep an eye on is K’Andre Miller. The 24-year-old is quietly having a strong season for the New York Rangers. In 48 games played, he has seven goals, 19 points, and a plus-4 rating. However, his play has been even better as of late, so he’s a defenseman to add if he is still available in your league.
Miller, 24, has seen a slight improvement in his offense lately, as he has three points over his last five games. When looking at how well he has played as of late, it is not hard to believe that he can continue this kind of play from here. He’s an excellent two-way defenseman, so he’s the kind of waiver-wire addition to make at this stage of the season.
Nevertheless, it is clear that Week 18 has some strong options for fantasy hockey managers to choose from. It will be intriguing to see how this trio performs during the second half of the season from here.
