The waiver wire is a valuable way to add hidden gems and overlooked players to your fantasy hockey club. This remains the case whether you plan to have them as short-term or long-term parts of your fantasy hockey roster. Now that we are nearing April, we better understand which waiver-wire goalies are worth snagging. As a result, here are three waiver-wire goalies worth adding to your roster in Week 24.
Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire: Goalies to Consider for Week 24
Justus Annunen, Colorado Avalanche
Earlier this week, the Colorado Avalanche signed Justus Annunen to a two-year contract extension. When looking at how the youngster has performed with the Avs this season, it is entirely understandable. The Avalanche’s top goalie prospect has been simply marvelous. In nine appearances, he has a 5-3-1 record, a 2.34 GAA, and a .926 SV%. Due to this alone, he is a waiver-wire goalie worth considering this week.
Yet, what’s more encouraging about Annunen is that his play is only improving. He has had a .909 SV% or better in each of his last six starts. Along with that, he also posted two shutouts over that span. The 24-year-old is showing that he is ready for the NHL, and the Avalanche are truly benefitting from it. Given all of this, he’s exactly the kind of waiver-wire goalie to bring in right now.
Jake Allen, New Jersey Devils
At the 2024 NHL Trade Deadline, the New Jersey Devils acquired Jake Allen from the Montreal Canadiens. While they did not get the big-time star goalie that they were looking for, Allen has been simply excellent for them. In six appearances since joining the Devils, he has a 4-2-0 record, a .925 SV%, and a 2.51 GAA. As a result, he’s a waiver-wire candidate to consider adding to your fantasy hockey club.
Allen has also been lights out for the Devils as of late, which only adds to his appeal. He just had a 42-save performance against the Toronto Maple Leafs on March 26. He also had a .944 SV% or better in three out of his previous four starts. The Fredericton native is thriving with the change of scenery, and he’s somebody to pick up immediately as a waiver-wire addition because of it.
James Reimer, Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings are currently fighting for their playoff lives. While the team has struggled as of late, veteran goalie James Reimer has not. In fact, the 36-year-old is currently playing his best hockey of the season, and it could not have come at a better time for Detroit. In each of his last three starts, he had a .917 SV%, a .914 SV%, and a .962 SV%. With that, he secured wins in all three of those starts. That naturally makes him a very solid waiver-wire candidate to add right now.
It is always a good idea to take a chance on a hot goalie in fantasy hockey. When noting that Reimer has a reputation for stepping up his game later in the season, he’s a prime waiver-wire addition to make in Week 24.
Nevertheless, it is clear that Week 24 offers some solid waiver-wire goalies to choose from. Let’s see how well this trio can maintain their hot stretch of play from here.
