The 2023-24 season has finally come to an end. The season was full of both surprises and disappointments. The dynasty basketball rankings have quite a few changes since the last update. Many players had unforeseen breakouts, while others saw their dynasty value plummet. It was definitely an interesting season to say the least. Let’s take a look at some of the risers, fallers and potential breakouts for next season and beyond.
Risers
GG Jackson II, SF/PF, Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies were ravaged by injuries all season long. Jackson took full advantage of this opportunity in his rookie season and jumped over 60 spots since my last dynasty basketball rankings update. At only 19 years old he showcased some massive potential. In his final eight games of the season, he averaged 20.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.8 three-pointers, and 1.1 steals. He scored 10 points or more in his final 18 games. Also, during that stretch of 18 games, he dropped 20 or more points on seven different occasions and hit the 30-point mark in four of those games. Jackson dropped a career-high 44 points in his final game of the season. He has likely earned a sizable role with the team next year with his impressive performances to close out the season.
Donte DiVincenzo, SG, New York Knicks
DiVincenzo was scorching hot since the All-Star break. He surged up 28 spots in this update of the dynasty basketball rankings. DiVincenzo averaged at least 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 three-pointers, and 1 steal per game for three consecutive months in February, March, and April. He scored in double figures in 40 straight games to close out the season. The last time DiVincenzo scored in single digits was January 17th. His dynasty value rose to another level this season.
Fallers
Paul Reed, PF/C, Philadelphia 76ers
Reed dipped over 50 spots from the last dynasty basketball ranking. He was given a golden opportunity to step up in the absence of Joel Embiid, who missed just over two months after needing surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee. Embiid ended up missing all of February and March due to the injury. Reed put up serviceable numbers while Embiid was out, but didn’t exactly impress from a fantasy standpoint. In February he averaged 7.9 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks. Reed averaged 9.4 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.7 blocks in March. His upside seems limited, especially considering Embiid is signed through the 2026-27 season.
Dillon Brooks, SG/SF, Houston Rockets
Brooks spent the first six seasons of his career with the Memphis Grizzlies. His first season with the Houston Rockets didn’t go so well. He ended up falling 14 spots since the last dynasty basketball rankings update. Brooks averaged a career-high in minutes this season, but averaged his fewest points and assists since 2018-19. The Rockets will look to get Cam Whitmore more involved next season and it could come at the expense of Brooks. His dynasty stock has certainly taken a hit.
Potential Dynasty Breakouts in 2024-25
Noah Clowney, PF, Brooklyn Nets
Clowney only played in a total of seven games through the month of February. His role grew as the Brooklyn Nets fell out of playoff contention in March. Once they were officially eliminated, Clowney finally got the chance to show his potential. In his final six games of the season, he averaged 13.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.2 blocks and 1.3 three-pointers. The Nets have high expectations for their 19-year-old first-round draft pick and will look to get him much more involved in his sophomore season.
Jake LaRavia, PF, Memphis Grizzlies
LaRavia was drafted 19th overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2022 draft. He only played in 11 games before the All-Star break this season. However, LaRavia really turned things on in March, where he averaged 13.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 1.3 steals, and 1.8 three-pointers. He ended the season on a high note averaging 20.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1 steal and 3.2 three-pointers in April. LaRavia’s stellar play may have earned him a prominent role in the rotation for next season.
