MLB Injury Report
Max Fried – SP Atlanta Braves
Max Fried will make his second rehab start at Rome (AA) on Saturday. He made his first rehab start for Gwinnett (AAA) last week but the Stripers are on the road in Memphis and it makes more sense to keep him closer to home.
— Jeff Schultz (@JeffSchultzATL) July 13, 2023
Fried’s first start lasted 1.1 innings last week, but it was more of an experimental outing for him, as he wanted to try his secondaries. This, and his next outing(s) will be more about utilizing his pitches to get outs while also building his workload up.
Jose Urquidy – SP Houston Astros, Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros
Yordan Alvarez and José Urquidy are starting rehab assignments tomorrow with Triple-A Sugar Land.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) July 13, 2023
As expected, both Astros will begin their rehabs just after the All-Star Break. It was said prior to this too that Alvarez’s outing would likely be a short one. While there’s no word on exactly how short, it seems realistic that he could return to Houston by the end of next weekend. As for Urquidy, he will likely need multiple starts as it’s been quite a while since he last pitched. If all goes well, an early-August return seems possible.
Ryan Pepiot – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Some good #Dodgers news to share coming out of the All-Star Break.
Ryan Pepiot is joining the @okc_dodgers on a rehab assignment and is scheduled to start tomorrow's game in Sacramento.
— Alex Freedman (@azfreedman) July 13, 2023
Pepiot has yet to pitch this season, as he suffered an oblique injury back in March. He had originally been slated to be the fifth man in the Dodgers’ rotation, but after the injury and a setback, he hasn’t made his debut. There’s no word on how he will be used once he’s healthy.
Luke Jackson – RP San Francisco Giants, Anthon DeSclafani – SP San Francisco Giants
Per Giants:
OF Dalton Guthrie claimed off waivers by Atlanta
RHPs Luke Jackson and Anthony DeSclafani will begin rehabilitation assignments tonight in the Arizona Complex League.— Susan Slusser (@susanslusser) July 13, 2023
Both Jackson and DeSclafani are hoping to rejoin the team within the next week or so. Jackson has been out with a back injury since late June and DeSclafani has had shoulder fatigue after his July 1 start. The injuries should not require a long rehabilitation process.
Bryce Miller – SP Seattle Mariners
This statement vehemently contradicts an earlier statement about how Miller was “not going to pitch for awhile”. Now, it would seem, Miller would be ready to throw within the next few days. It looks like he has overcome his blister issue and could pitch for the team against the Twins early next week. Nothing has been set in stone, but this is a much more optimistic outlook than it was days ago.
Shane McClanahan – SP Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays McClanahan was throwing in the outfield this afternoon and Cash said they are very confident he will be ready to go on 7-16 at #Royals
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) July 6, 2023
Fantastic news for the Rays and for fantasy owners everywhere. It looks like he won’t miss any time after the Break and also gets a fantastic matchup.
Yandy Diaz – INF Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Diaz is on the paternity list and won’t play Friday for sure, there’s some discussion if he’ll return Saturday or Sunday. Aranda will be called up.
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) July 13, 2023
The best is wished for the Diaz family during this fantastic time. Welcome back to the Show, Aranda!
