Fantrax Injury Report – Gunnar Henderson Suffers Back Injury

Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Wednesday, July 26, 2023.

In today’s edition, Gunnar Henderson left yesterday’s game, and there’s been no word on if he will miss any extra time with a back injury that plagued him earlier this season. Also, Trevor Story could be back this weekend, which would be a huge boost to the Boston Red Sox. Finally, both Yordan Alvarez and Jose Altuve could be back at any time, as their status is now a day-by-day thing. All that and more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Gunnar Henderson – 3B Baltimore Orioles

This isn’t the first time Henderson has had back problems this season, so the team might be extra cautious with him. Expect him to miss at least one game with some update on his status later today.

Aaron Hicks – OF Baltimore Orioles

The injury to Hicks doesn’t sound too serious as he believes that he’ll return within the ten-day minimum.

Trevor Story – 2B/SS Boston Red Sox

It sounds like Story’s return depends a lot on how he tells the team he feels. Even if he doesn’t return this weekend, he sounds close to debuting nonetheless.

Chris Sale – SP Boston Red Sox

It’s interesting to note here that the Red Sox are considering bringing up Sale earlier than expected and having him build up his innings with the team. There could be some inherent danger in doing that, but it does mean that he’ll be activated sooner. Keep in mind that he is not eligible to return until August 1.

Kris Bryant – OF Colorado Rockies

Bryant will miss some time while recovering from a fracture in his left index finger. There is no timetable for his return.

C.J. Cron – 1B Colorado Rockies

It’s looking like Cron will need a few more days before coming back. With the team having tomorrow off, the hope is that his body will feel well enough to return.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros, Jose Altuve – 2B Houston Astros

Manager Dusty Baker did say in an interview that he would know about the status of Alvarez earlier in the morning, based on how he (Alvarez) feels when he wakes up. As for Altuve, his return (with or without a rehab assignment) would be based on how he (Altuve) says that he feels.

Jose Urquidy – SP Houston Astros

Urquidy has pitched well in his rehab outings, and this one is no different. It remains to be seen if he will need another outing before returning.

Zach Neto – SS Los Angeles Angels

Neto apparently didn’t look to be 100% ready in warmups, and Nevin took him out of the lineup. It does sound promising for a return later today, however. Stay tuned.

Brandon Drury – INF/OF Los Angeles Angels

It sounds like Drury could be back in a few days, and it’s unclear if he’ll need a rehab assignment before doing so. If he can hit off live pitching without any problems, he should be in line for a return shortly afterward.

Mike Trout – OF Los Angeles Angels

Trout is doing his best to keep the rest of his body fresh. However, he will need to properly use a bat and show he can hit. Until then, he remains out with a possible return slated sometime in August.

Francisco Alvarez – C New York Mets

There were concerns following the hit-by-pitch that Alvarez sustained in the game. However, the X-rays came back negative, and apparently, those concerns are gone. He may need a day or two to get himself back to 100% health, but long-term projections look promising.

Starling Marte – OF New York Mets

Marte looks to be just about ready to return tomorrow when he’s first eligible to do so. Nothing has been announced, but the writing seems to be on the wall here.

Aaron Judge – OF New York Yankees

Day by day, Judge finds himself closer to a return, but there is no clear picture as to when. The team not ruling out a rehab assignment would add another week to whatever timetable they have for him.

Ke’Bryan Hayes – 3B Pittsburgh Pirates

Hayes did play last night and went 0-for-1 with a walk. There has been no word on how long he will be with Triple-A Indianapolis.

Thairo Estrada – 2B/OF San Francisco Giants

Estrada has now progressed toward some sort of hitting progression and taking groundballs. There has been no word on what the next step will be and when that will happen. He will likely need a rehab assignment too.

Yandy Diaz – INF Tampa Bay Rays

Consider Diaz DTD until both we and the team know more about the severity of the situation.

Victor Robles – OF Washington Nationals

Robles returning would be a big boost to the Nationals. There have been no updates on his recovery or if the team plans on sending him to a rehab assignment.
