Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Sunday, July 30, 2023. In today’s edition, it looks like Max Fried will be back in the Braves’ rotation at some point this week after a successful rehab outing. Also, after a scary moment yesterday, it looks like Taylor Ward is still in the hospital getting evaluated. Finally, Jazz Chisholm Jr. will be starting a rehab outing himself and could be back with the Marlins soon enough. All that and more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Repoert
Max Fried – SP Atlanta Braves
Max Fried threw 79 pitches and got into the fifth inning tonight. That's what the Braves wanted him to do tonight. He could rejoin Atlanta's rotation on Friday in Chicago.
— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) July 30, 2023
It sounds like Fried could be ready to rejoin the Braves at some point this week.
Corey Kluber – SP/RP Boston Red Sox
Sox also shut Corey Kluber down. Not necessarily for the season but doesn't sound very promising.
7.04 ERA and 1.64 WHIP over 55 IP.
— Pete Abraham (@PeteAbe) July 29, 2023
There should be an update on Kluber’s status later today or tomorrow, but it’s not a positive development. He was supposed to be back with the Red Sox later in the week, but that likely won’t happen now.
Jonathan India – 2B Cincinnati Reds
David Bell said that Jonathan India has been dealing with heal soreness, which has increased over the last week. India had an MRI and the Reds are awaiting results.
— Charlie Goldsmith (@CharlieG__) July 30, 2023
India had apparently been playing through a heel injury for a while, and now it looks to be too much to handle. With him being a potential trade piece, it’s terrible timing for the Reds, especially if he needs time on the Injured List. Look for updates to happen soon as a possible trip to the Injured List is certainly on the table.
Charlie Blackmon – OF Colorado Rockies
#Rockies DH-OF Charlie Blackmon is taking batting practice today, for the first time since his right hand fracture. pic.twitter.com/TozBUWfnN0
— Thomas Harding (@harding_at_mlb) July 29, 2023
This is definitely something, as Blackmon is inching himself closer to a rehab appearance.
Taylor Ward – OF Los Angeles Angels
Taylor Ward is still at the hospital undergoing tests. No further updates on him available yet.
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) July 29, 2023
This was the latest update, as Ward is in the hospital after a scary HBP to the face. He needed to be carried off on a stretcher. The hope is that all will be okay and that he can return at some point.
Brandon Drury – INF/OF Los Angeles Angels
Brandon Drury said he’s starting a rehab series with SLC this week and hopes to return on Thursday, when the Angels come back to Anaheim.
— Sam Blum (@SamBlum3) July 29, 2023
It looks as if Drury is hopeful for a quick rehab outing and to return later in the week. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen.
Clayton Kershaw – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Clayton Kershaw pitched three innings of live BP. Dodgers are hopeful he’ll be ready to return to rotation next week, but it will depend on how he feels in coming days https://t.co/CiF2OylvoE
— Jack Harris (@ByJackHarris) July 29, 2023
It looks like the final step in Kershaw’s bid to return will depend on how he feels over the next few days. If things are good and he feels normal soreness and fatigue, then he could be back in the rotation by this time next week.
Mookie Betts – 2B/SS/OF Los Angeles Dodgers
Mookie Betts is not available today, and is considered day to day, per Dave Roberts
His ankle “gave way” trying to avoid a pitch last night, Roberts said, and he had some swelling today https://t.co/Zx6g3DCGoz
— Jack Harris (@ByJackHarris) July 29, 2023
While the severity of this ankle injury is unknown, it’s worth noting that Betts has some swelling. Whether or not he misses time on the Injured List has yet to be determined, but for now, consider him DTD.
Avisail Garcia – OF Miami Marlins
Avisail Garcia said in the clubhouse that he anticipates to be added back to the active roster tomorrow.#Marlins
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) July 29, 2023
There’s been no word yet from the team, but Garcia himself thinks he’ll return today. Stay tuned.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. – 2B/OF Miami Marlins
Per #Marlins, Jazz Chisholm Jr. will start a rehab assignment tomorrow in Jupiter.
— Daniel Álvarez-Montes (@DanielAlvarezEE) July 29, 2023
There’s no word on how long this rehab assignment will take, but it’s promising that it’s at least starting. He could very well be in the Marlins’ lineup within the week.
Nestor Cortes – SP New York Yankees
It looks like the team and Cortes both want one more outing before committing to a return to the Yankees. A total of about 60 pitches would show that he’s ready to return as a starter.
Esteury Ruiz – OF Oakland Athletics
Esteury Ruiz absolutely taggged this ball 😮💨😮💨😮💨 pic.twitter.com/lXwRrQSilc
— Esteury Ruizs #1 Fan (@JoeyProcell2) July 29, 2023
Ruiz and his speed have never been in question, as evidenced by his ability to easily hit that triple. With regard to this injury are Ruiz’s arms and his ability to throw a baseball. Once that is back to 100%, we should see Ruiz running wild with the Athletics in a similar fashion.
Zach Eflin – SP Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Eflin tested his left knee throwing off the bullpen mound today. Cash said it went “fine” and “he’s doing better” but still no decision on whether he starts Tuesday vs. #Yankees
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) July 29, 2023
This is a promising development for Eflin, who may or may not be back with the Rays for his next turn in the rotation. That being said, things are looking good for him.
Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers
Seager got cortisone injection yesterday. Splint off thumb. Should start swinging on Monday or Tuesday https://t.co/iYtUdOofet
— Evan Grant (@Evan_P_Grant) July 30, 2023
This is the first significant update on Seager, who may be back without a rehab assignment. He originally thought that he’d be back within two weeks from the date of the injury, and this would help that proclamation come true.
Nathan Eovaldi – SP Texas Rangers
Nathan Eovaldi will not start on Sunday. There is a bit of soreness in a “good” place behind elbow. MRI was clean, according to Bochy. No IL at this point. But being pushed back further
— Evan Grant (@Evan_P_Grant) July 29, 2023
Eovaldi has already had one start pushed back because of wanted rest, and now he will miss another due to elbow soreness. With Max Scherzer now on the team, the Rangers can afford to give extra rest for Eovaldi, who they’ll need come playoff time.
Jordan Romano – RP Toronto Blue Jays
ROSTER MOVES:
🔹 RHP Jordan Romano (lower back inflammation) placed on 15-day IL
🔹 RHP Nate Pearson recalled from Triple-A and will be active today pic.twitter.com/c898MBSPwo
— Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) July 29, 2023
Romano will miss the next two weeks with inflammation in his lower back. He’s been off and on with that injury since the All-Star Break. It looks like Yimi Garcia and Erik Swanson will get opportunities to save, but don’t forget about Nate Pearson.
