Cedric Mullins – OF Baltimore Orioles, Ryan Mountcastle – 1B Baltimore Orioles
Hyde says Cedric Mullins has begun baseball activities in Sarasota and is progressing well. Ryan Mountcastle still under the weather. #Orioles
— Rich DubroffMLB (@RichDubroffMLB) June 10, 2023
That is good news about Mullins, as he has been out of action since the end of May with a Grade 2 groin strain. He will likely need to ramp things up and get into a rehab assignment before returning to Baltimore. As for Mountcastle, the hope is that he will be back today. He was close to being available off of the bench yesterday which means he’s close.
Seiya Suzuki – OF Chicago Cubs
Seiya Suzuki isn’t in the Cubs lineup today as Ross gives him a breather because Suzuki is dealing with “some small things.”
Ross says he’s available off the bench.
— Meghan Montemurro (@M_Montemurro) June 10, 2023
The hope here is that Suzuki’s small things don’t escalate into bigger things. He was available off the bench, so it’s looking like that has been avoided. Consider him DTD until we find out anything more.
Jake Fraley – OF Cincinnati Reds
The #Reds today announced the following transactions: pic.twitter.com/BsQQUk3WWF
— Cincinnati Reds (@Reds) June 10, 2023
Fraley was hit by a pitch on the wrist earlier in the week and has suffered a contusion. He won’t be eligible to return until June 18. There has been no word on whether or not this will be a long-lasting injury.
Colorado Rockies – Team Update
#Rockies injury updates:
No timetable for Kris Bryant (heel) or C.J. Cron (back). Both are strengthening, getting closer to baseball activities.
Antonio Senzatela (elbow) is "a ways away," but Brendan Rodgers (shoulder surgery) is taking grounders with better range of motion.
— Patrick Lyons (@PatrickDLyons) June 10, 2023
The only piece of positive news here is that Rodgers is fielding ground balls and has improved his range of motion. He remains adamant that he will return late this year, and it’s seemingly a distinct possibility. Keep him in the back of your mind while heading toward the end of the season. As for Bryant and Cron, both are expected back before the All-Star Break, but neither has given any indication that a return is imminent. Bryant did play catch earlier in the week, but he’s not close. Finally, Senzatela is expected to return this year, but he has yet to do anything physical along the basis of baseball-related activities. He remains shut down.
Akil Baddoo – OF Detroit Tigers
The Tigers have announced the following roster moves:
*Placed OF Akil Baddoo on the 10-day injured list with a right quad strain
*Recalled INF/OF Nick Solak from Triple A Toledo— Tigers PR (@DetroitTigersPR) June 10, 2023
There is no timetable for Baddoo’s return, though it might come with a bit of an extra timeline to help him get on track as he struggled mightily prior to this injury.
Vinnie Pasquantino – 1B Kansas City Royals
Vinnie Pasquantino described the shoulder injury as “pretty much the same” as what he felt last year when he was on the IL. When the #Royals return to KC on Monday, he’ll get an MRI, which will help determine a treatment plan/return timeline.
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) June 10, 2023
Pasquantino landed on the 10-day Injured List yesterday and will miss some time. It’s hard to feel too encouraged that he is once again feeling like he did last year. Reoccurring injuries are concerning, though there is a bit of familiarity with what to do and how to handle things. We’ll know more about this ailment when he gets that MRI and the Royals figure out what’s best. Look for Nick Pratto to take over at 1B.
Ben Joyce – RP Los Angeles Angels
Nevin said they got “really good news” on Ben Joyce. It’s a nerve issue, and nothing about the ligament.
— Sam Blum (@SamBlum3) June 11, 2023
Joyce felt tingling in his fingers, hand, and forearm on Friday. On Saturday he went for an MRI and these were the results. He has been diagnosed with ulnar neuritis, and it is a nerve issue, not a ligament issue. We should know more of a timetable soon enough.
Trevor Rogers – SP Miami Marlins
#Marlins left-handed pitcher Trevor Rogers was supposed to start for Triple A Jacksonville in the first game of the Jumbo Shrimp's doubleheader. George Soriano is starting instead.
Rogers stopped throwing mid warm-ups ahead of the first inning and went back to the dugout.
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) June 10, 2023
The Marlins have not revealed the next steps here for Rogers, but chances are that he won’t be activated until later in the week, at least. In fact, this could set him back a week. Stay tuned.
Tyrone Taylor – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Counsell also said that Tyrone Taylor has received multiple opinions on his right elbow and the consensus is he will get a cortisone shot with the hope it will provide some relief. Taylor already had a PRP injection this spring.
— Todd Rosiak (@Todd_Rosiak) June 10, 2023
Taylor has been scuffling with this elbow all year. The hope is that this cortisone shot will cure it and allow him to play.
Jorge Polanco – 2B Minnesota Twins
Rocco Baldelli said the MRI confirmed a moderate hamstring strain for Jorge Polanco, which Baldelli said was "somewhat slightly to somewhat more severe," than the first hamstring strain.
Baldelli said it was also in a different spot than Polanco's first hamstring strain.
— Betsy Helfand (@betsyhelfand) June 10, 2023
Ugh. This is not good. Polanco will once again miss time, but this time it is sounding incredibly awful. One has to wonder if this injury was the result of rushing back or not being fully recovered from his last ailment. Either way, Polanco will miss some time and chances are that it’s more than 10 days.
Brandon Belt – 1B Toronto Blue Jays
UPDATE: DH Brandon Belt was removed from today’s game with left hamstring tightness.
— Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) June 10, 2023
There’s no word on the severity of this issue. This could be a DTD concern or something that requires the Injured List. Look for Alejandro Kirk to continue to find playing time, especially with Danny Jansen back soon.
