Kyle Hendricks – SP Chicago Cubs
David Ross announces that Kyle Hendricks will start tomorrow. His first big-league outing since July 5 of last year. Jameson Taillon will go Saturday to break up lefties Justin Steele and Drew Smyly in the rotation.
— Sahadev Sharma (@sahadevsharma) May 25, 2023
Be prepared.
Luis Robert – OF Chicago White Sox
Luis Robert Jr. says he’s playing tomorrow.
— Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan) May 24, 2023
Some potentially good news here for the White Sox, as Robert plans to play. Although anything can happen, look for him to be in the lineup later today.
Triston McKenzie – SP Cleveland Guardians
McKenzie will make his second rehab start later today as he works his way back to the Guardians’ rotation. There is some speculation that he could be back up sooner rather than later. That said, later in the article, it talks about how the team would like to ideally work both him and Aaron Civale up with some more volume before returning to Cleveland.
Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels
Anthony Rendon did some agility drills on the field during batting practice. Phil Nevin said Rendon has participating in baseball activities indoors and has been swinging a bat.
— Rhett Bollinger (@RhettBollinger) May 24, 2023
Rendon could come back at any time as he is eligible to return. All that being said, it remains to be seen if he will need a rehab assignment. Overall though, he is feeling better. Stay tuned.
Luis Arraez – 2B Miami Marlins
Luis Arraez was pinch-hit for by Garrett Hampson in the seventh inning.
He was removed as a precaution with a left leg cramp
— Jordan McPherson (@J_McPherson1126) May 25, 2023
With the move being precautionary, one can expect Arraez back in the lineup sooner, rather than later. There should be updates today regarding his leg.
Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers
Brandon Woodruff had to take a 4-5 day pause from throwing but he was back playing catch today. He's been targeting the end of June to be pitching for the Brewers, but there are many steps ahead: Sustained long toss, bullpens, live BPs, rehab starts. He's feeling good today.
— Adam McCalvy (@AdamMcCalvy) May 24, 2023
Playing catch is the first step in the process of recovery. As listed here, Woodruff has a long way to go before returning and a lot of steps to complete. While the end of June seems like a far enough timeline to set as a goal, any setback could push his return into July.
Carlos Correa – SS Minnesota Twins
Carlos Correa has a muscle strain in his left foot arch and plantar fasciitis. No IL trip right now. “I think we get to Friday and some of our decisions might be made for us,” manager Rocco Baldelli said. #MNTwins
— John Shipley: Tier 3 (@ShipleyMN) May 24, 2023
This is not ideal at all. It started with an MRI of Correa’s foot that revealed inflammation and bruising in the heel. Later it was determined that he is suffering from plantar fasciitis, which is a long-term diagnosis that requires treatment. Going forward, Royce Lewis will be returning soon, and while he was planning on playing third base, he does have a background in the shortstop position. There is also Kyle Farmer who can step in on the left side of the infield. The kicker too is that this is not the foot that gave the Giants and the Mets pause after offering him the mega-contract that they did.
Joey Gallo – OF Minnesota Twins
Joey Gallo has a sore hamstring today after that play when he was checked by the trainer on the bases yesterday. Twins want to give him a few days off. Carlos Correa also down today.
Very short bench, with not many alternatives because so many guys are already hurt/banged-up.
— Do-Hyoung Park (@dohyoungpark) May 24, 2023
He is considered to be DTD until we find out more. There’s no word on the severity of this situation.
Vince Velasquez – SP Pittsburgh Pirates
Per Shelton, Vince Velasquez will likely make a start in Seattle.
Mitch Keller, Roansy Contreras and Luis Ortiz are currently listed as the probables.
— Justice delos Santos (@justdelossantos) May 24, 2023
This may mark the end of Luis Ortiz in the rotation, unless someone else gets bumped.
Manny Machado – 3B San Diego Padres
Manny Machado took grounders today for the first time and said his fractured left hand felt "all right" afterward. He still hasn't taken BP. That's the last remaining hurdle. Seems unlikely he'd be back by Friday, but he's making some notable progress.
— AJ Cassavell (@AJCassavell) May 24, 2023
First, it depends on how Machado’s hand feels the day afterward. Second, once that last hurdle of BP is cleared, we could be able to pinpoint a date for a return.
AJ Pollock – OF Seattle Mariners, Ty France – 1B Seattle Mariners
Also AJ Pollock felt something in his leg on the steal. Servais said Ty France should be available tomorrow
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) May 25, 2023
For Pollock, there were no details regarding the extent of the injury. We should know more today. As for France, he missed yesterday’s game, but it looks like he will be returning today.
Eugenio Suarez – 3B Seattle Mariners
Suarez left the game after feeling some effects from getting hit by a foul ball from Julio Rodriguez
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) May 25, 2023
The team didn’t say exactly what was wrong or how he was feeling. Until we know more, consider him DTD.
Dylan Carlson – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards manager Oli Marmol said CF Dylan Carlson (sprained left ankle) took BP from the right side of the plate today. Marmol said Carlson is still “a few days away” from being able to hit from the left side.
Carlson rolled his ankle while leaving the batters box on May 14.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) May 24, 2023
With Carlson a few days away from even attempting to hit from the left side, it’s fair to think he will be gone for at least another week since a rehab assignment will likely be needed.
Tyler O’Neill – OF St. Louis Cardinals
#STLCards manager Oli Marmol said outfielder Tyler O’Neill (low back strain) took light swings off a tee today as he works to restart baseball activities. O’Neill has been on the IL since May 5 with the persistent back pain.
— John Denton (@JohnDenton555) May 24, 2023
O’Neill has been shut down for quite a while, and this is the first baseball activity he was able to complete. Even if he doesn’t have any setbacks, he is likely a ways away from returning.
Brandon Lowe – 2B Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays B. Lowe said his stiff neck is “100 times better” and he expects to be available off bench tonight (or start vs. LHP, which seems unlikely) and expects to be in lineup Thursday
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) May 24, 2023
It’s fair to wonder if the LHP was the main catalyst in Lowe sitting. Either way, look for him to return later today.
Yandy Diaz – INF Tampa Bay Rays
#Rays Diaz is dealing with what Cash said is “a family matter,” which explains why Brujan is being added to the roster. RH Zack Littell is headed to the IL due to a “cranky shoulder.”
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) May 24, 2023
Yandy and his family are wished well.
Ezequiel Duran – 3B Texas Rangers
Ezequiel Duran had some rib cage soreness on a swing last night. He says he’s ok; Rangers say he’s probably fine. But he is getting day off
— Evan Grant (@Evan_P_Grant) May 24, 2023
Here’s hoping that this is a minor issue and that he can return as quickly as possible. Rib injuries make it very difficult to play the game of baseball.
Danny Jansen – C Toronto Blue Jays
UPDATE: C Danny Jansen was removed from tonight's game with left groin tightness.
— Toronto Blue Jays (@BlueJays) May 25, 2023
Jansen has a history of injuries. Alejandro Kirk should be added in leagues where he’s available just in case.
