Fantrax MLB Injury Report
Ramon Urias – INF Baltimore Orioles
Ramon Urias singles with 2 outs in the ninth but was hobbling to 1st. Head athletic training Brian Eble checking him. Urias leaves the game. #orioles
— Roch Kubatko (@masnRoch) May 9, 2023
It turns out, Urias suffered a hamstring strain. He will get evaluated later today and an official word will be made. That said, it’s looking likely that he hits the Injured List.
Nico Hoerner – 2B Chicago Cubs
Here is Nico Hoerner rounding second base in the bottom of the 5th.
He exited the game after this and was replaced by Nick Madrigal. pic.twitter.com/he1LrjaJe4
— Andy Martínez (@amartinez_11) May 9, 2023
The injury looked painful, as you could see the squeamishness in Hoerner’s eyes. He will get evaluated today in order to determine whether or not he’ll need to go to the Injured List.
Yoan Moncada – 3B Chicago White Sox
Best guess is Yoan Moncada (back) still has time left at Charlotte. It’s possible White Sox wait till home stand this weekend to reactivate him.
— Daryl Van Schouwen (@CST_soxvan) May 8, 2023
It’s not completely out of the question that Moncada comes back earlier, but the likeliest of scenarios sees him back this weekend. He only has three games under his belt thus far.
Michael Brantley – OF Houston Astros
Michael Brantley will not be activated tomorrow, Dusty Baker said. Brantley is “almost ready, but not quite ready.” Baker said Brantley came through everything fine and is healthy. Brantley did not speak to the media today.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) May 8, 2023
Just another example of Brantley and his return getting delayed yet again. It’s to the point where seeing will be believing with him. While it’s fair to say any day now, nobody should hold their breath waiting.
Jose Altuve – 2B Houston Astros
Jose Altuve is not with the team in Anaheim. He is working out in Houston and facing live pitching in Sugar Land.
— Chandler Rome (@Chandler_Rome) May 8, 2023
Fantastic news as he’s about ready to begin his rehab assignment.
Miami Marlins – Team Update
#Marlins injury updates:
– JT Chargois Rehab AAA tomorrow. 1 inning.
– Garrett Cooper onfield workouts tomorrow in Jupiter.
– Johnny Cueto left ankle sprain. To Jupiter for rehab.
– Nic Enright threw two innings in Jax yesterday.
– Avi Garcia is completing rehab in Jupiter.

A ton to unpack here. Cueto injured himself while covering first base in a rehab game. There is no timetable for a return…..Garcia is eligible to return, so he could be back at any time…..Cooper was shut down for a while due to his inner ear infection, but he looks to be back and ready…..Trevor Rogers had just begun a throwing program as he works his way back from a biceps injury.
Carlos Carrasco – SP New York Mets
Carlos Carrasco is going to start on Tuesday with Double-A Binghamton.
— Mike Mayer (@mikemayer22) May 8, 2023
Carrasco’s rehab appearance got delayed because he was under the weather. He looks ready now to get himself right.
Mason Miller – SP Oakland Athletics
Mason Miller felt tightness in his right elbow following his start yesterday. He is flying back to the Bay Area to be evaluated. A’s manager Mark Kotsay said it looks to be more of a flexor muscle issue than anything else: “We’re hoping for the best,” Kotsay said.
— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) May 8, 2023
Yeesh. The fact that the team is hopeful for a flexor muscle issue here as their best-case scenario is somewhat grim. Regardless of what it is, Miller will likely require time on the Injured List. Flexor issues have a timeline of anywhere from a couple of weeks to a couple of months. Furthermore, if surgery is required to fix the problem, it could be a season-ending issue. Stay tuned as there will be a lot more information and updates to follow.
Ramon Laureano – OF Oakland Athletics
Ramón Laureano is in concussion protocol, per Kotsay. He'll remain day to day.
— Martín Gallegos (@MartinJGallegos) May 9, 2023
Laureano will remain with his DTD status until anything else gets updated.
Alex Wood – SP San Francsico Giants
Alex Wood (hamstring strain) threw 3.2 IP in a rehab assignment yesterday and told Gabe Kapler he feels ready, Kapler said.
Nothing in stone, but all signs point to Wood returning from IL to start later this week.
— Danny Emerman (@DannyEmerman) May 8, 2023
It’s looking like all that’s needed is an opening within the rotation later in the week. Be prepared.
JP Crawford – SS Seattle Mariners
JP Crawford has been scratched from the lineup. He left BP early in some discomfort. He fouled a ball off the top of his left knee yesterday
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) May 8, 2023
Crawford tried to make his way back to the lineup following a foul ball off of the knee on Sunday. He’s DTD until we hear otherwise.
Nolan Arenado – 3B St. Louis Cardinals
Nolan Arenado was scratched due to neck stiffness. The team is calling it "precautionary." #stlcards
— Derrick Goold (@dgoold) May 8, 2023
The good news is that this is precautionary, so the severity of the injury seems minimal. All that being said, it’s something to monitor going forward. Nolan Gorman took over at third base in his absence.
Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers
Current plan is for Seager to begin rehab assignment Thursday
— Evan Grant (@Evan_P_Grant) May 8, 2023
Fantastic!
Mitch Garver – C Texas Rangers
Corey Seager is expected to go on a rehab assignment when the Rangers leave Seattle on Thursday.
Target date for Mitch Garver is still around May 23.
— kennedi landry (@kennlandry) May 9, 2023
That date can change at any time, but it’s good to know the projected endgame for this.
