Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Sunday, July 9, 2023. Down below, there’s information on Max Fried’s rehab assignment, which is starting later today. Look for him to take most of the month to get himself back on track. Dansby Swanson also went on the Injured List, as his heel isn’t well enough to play at all. Finally, the Angels get to the All-Star Break one day early, but it’s not a moment too soon. They are limping their way to a few days off and need every moment. See below which players have been added to their infirmary. All that and more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

Drey Jameson – SP/RP Arizona Diamondbacks
The #Dbacks selected LHP Tyler Gilbert from Triple-A Reno, optioned OF Kyle Lewis to Reno following yesterday's game, and transferred RHP Drey Jameson to the 60-day IL (right elbow inflammation).
— Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) July 8, 2023
This escalated quickly, as Jameson was just placed on the 15-day Injured List on Friday. Chances are that this is a more serious injury than was originally believed.
Max Fried – SP Atlanta Braves
In case you missed it, Max Fried is scheduled to begin his rehab assignment in Gwinnett TOMORROW!

If everything goes well, we could be seeing Fried back with the Braves in about two weeks.
Dansby Swanson – SS Chicago Cubs
The #Cubs today placed INF Dansby Swanson on the 10-day IL (retroactive to July 6) with a left heel contusion and recalled INF Miles Mastrobuoni from @IowaCubs. pic.twitter.com/1bMOXjbzn3
— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) July 8, 2023
Since injuring himself earlier in the week, Swanson first opted to sit out of the All-Star Game, and now will go to the 10-day Injured List. There is no word on if he will only miss the minimum amount of time, but he is eligible to return on July 16.
Ben Lively – SP Cincinnati Reds
Reds say they'll activate Ben Lively from IL, as expected, to start tomorrow's series finale vs. Brewers.

Be prepared.
Taylor Ward – OF Los Angeles Angels
Nevin said he did not want to use Taylor Ward in the OF because of his groin. He could have hit, though.
"I'm a little worried about where he's at. Was he available? To a point yes. But not to go in for defense. I'm really wanting to be cautious with him today."
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) July 9, 2023
It remains to be seen if Ward will go on the Injured List, but the team does have today off as well as the All-Star Break.
Jo Adell – OF Los Angeles Angels
Jo Adell said he felt a tug in his left oblique when he swung the bat in the first inning and knew he wouldn't be able to swing again, so he had to come out of the game. He said he'll undergo further testing.
— Rhett Bollinger (@RhettBollinger) July 9, 2023
Adell will likely get some tests done and we will have more information once they are completed.
Brandon Drury – INF Los Angeles Angels
Brandon Drury’s MRI showed nothing but inflammation, per Nevin. He got a cortisone shot and they will re-evaluate him after the break.
— Jeff Fletcher (@JeffFletcherOCR) July 8, 2023
Drury is hopeful to return just after the All-Star Break. He said that he will take some groundballs and take some at-bats in the coming days.
Clayton Kershaw – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
Clayton Kershaw threw just a handful of pitches off the mound yesterday but has reported feeling good, Dave Roberts said. Still TBD if he will be back for that Mets series when eligible on 7/15.
Julio Urías will start the post-ASB opener.
— Fabian Ardaya (@FabianArdaya) July 8, 2023
Kershaw has already thrown off of flat ground and a mound and was previously optimistic that he’d return just after the Break. Given the timeframe, it wouldn’t be surprising to make him the fourth or fifth starter after the break to give him some extra time.
Chris Taylor – OF Los Angeles Dodgers
#Dodgers MGR Dave Roberts said utility man Chris Taylor, out with a right knee injury, will be activated for road trip coming out of All-Star break and that LHP Julio Urias will start first game vs. #Mets on Friday.
— Mike DiGiovanna (@MikeDiGiovanna) July 8, 2023
Be prepared.
Bryce Harper – OF Philadelphia Phillies
Thomson say the x rays were negative for Harper. He’s sore. Unclear if he’ll play tomorrow or not.
— Alex Coffey (@byalexcoffey) July 8, 2023
Relief! There was some concern about this being a huge setback, given the nature of where it happened and the history of that elbow. Even if he misses today’s game, he’ll likely be ready for action just after the All-Star Break. Stay tuned, just in case, but this is as good of news as we could have hoped for.
Brandon Crawford – SS San Francisco Giants
Brandon Crawford exited with left hamstring tightness. Gabe Kapler made it not sound too serious but the shortstop likely won’t be in the lineup tomorrow with the All-Star break coming up Monday.
— Danny Emerman (@DannyEmerman) July 8, 2023
Keep an eye on today’s lineups, but be prepared to find a replacement for Crawford.
Jordan Montgomery – SP St. Louis Cardinals
Jordan Montgomery will see Dr. Paletta Sunday night when the team returns home to discuss the results of his imaging today and determine a path forward.
— Jeff Jones (@jmjones) July 8, 2023
It sounds like this could be a more serious situation than previously believed. Stay tuned as we’ll likely know more later today.
Drew Rasmussen – SP Tampa Bay Rays
Detials on #Rays Rasmussen being sidelined until mid-2024 due to elbow issue that requires installation of a internal brace on his ligament. Also more on roster moves with J. Lowe, Aranda, Rodriguez, Guerrahttps://t.co/YQC76tnh1f
— Marc Topkin (@TBTimes_Rays) July 8, 2023
The Rays had hoped that Rasmussen would return for the last month of the season. Instead, they received the news that he will need a procedure that’s somewhat similar to Tommy John and has a timeline somewhat shorter. This is awful news for him and the team as he will join teammate Jeffrey Springs as two key pieces of their rotation who won’t be back until much later into the 2024 season.
George Springer – OF Toronto Blue Jays
