Fantrax Injury Report: Yordan Alvarez Timetable

Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Saturday, July 8, 2023. Down below, you’ll see the latest on Dansby Swanson, who has decided that he won’t play in the All-Star Game next week. Could that be a sign of the seriousness of his situation, or merely him just wanting to get healthy and focus on himself? Also, potentially big steps forward in Houston, where both Yordan Alvarez and Jose Urquidy will help each other out in their recovery this weekend. Finally, the Cardinals lost two key pieces to their team yesterday and will be without them for the next little while. How serious are their injuries? All that, and more in today’s Injury Report, from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Drey Jameson – SP/RP Arizona Diamondbacks

Jameson apparently felt good enough to pitch on Thursday to throw 55 pitches, but later had tightness in his forearm area. He will undergo an MRI to determine the extent of the injury.

Merrill Kelly – SP Arizona Diamondbacks

Manager Lovullo has re-iterated many times that Kelly is in a good spot right now. The biggest concerns here lie in not knowing exactly what the problem is and how to fix things.

Austin Hays – OF Baltimore Orioles

His availability last night seemingly means that Hays will be in the lineup before the All-Star Break.

Dansby Swanson – SS Chicago Cubs

This doesn’t necessarily mean that Swanson is headed to the Injured List. It does, however, show the seriousness of the ailment. Stay tuned.

Riley Greene – OF Detroit Tigers

Be prepared.

Yordan Alvarez – OF Houston Astros, Jose Urquidy – OF Houston Astros

This is significant for both players. Alvarez will hit against a live pitcher for the first time in his recovery and could signify that a return is closer. As for Urquidy, if he goes through this live BP without any issues, he might be ready for a rehab assignment in the near future.

Brandon Drury – INF Los Angeles Angels

Stay tuned as there could be a lot more to the story here if the results show more than a left shoulder contusion.

Zach Neto – SS Los Angeles Angels

That live BP will happen later today. He is tracking for a return after the All-Star Break.

Noah Syndergaard – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

Apparently, Syndergaard’s velocity has been around 93-94 mph, and his latest three-inning simulated game went well.

Jake Bauers – INF/OF New York Yankees, Nestor Cortes – SP New York Yankees

There is no word yet on the severity of the injury to Jake Bauers. As for Cortes, this move to the 60-day Injured List was done to give the team an open spot for the returning Rodon. It was also done in order to show that the team will take things slowly with him, as he is available to return as of August 3.

Esteury Ruiz – OF Oakland Athletics

There has been no word on how long this injury will keep Ruiz on the shelf.

Andrew McCutchen – OF Pittsburgh Pirates, Ke’Bryan Hayes – 3B Pittsburgh Pirates

McCutchen landed awkwardly while trying to avoid a pitch on Thursday. There is no word on how long he will miss. As for Hayes, he apparently wasn’t fully healed when he returned on Thursday. He will go back on the Injured List with the same injury that he had previously.

Ha-Seong Kim – INF San Diego Padres

Kim may miss a game or two with an injured toe, but he should be fine after the All-Star Break. Stay tuned.

Jordan Montgomery – SP St. Louis Cardinals

Montgomery landed awkwardly while throwing a pitch in his pouting last night. He was evaluated last night and will likely get evaluated today. There should be updates.

Tommy Edman – INF/OF St. Louis Cardinals

Edman will miss the next ten days with wrist inflammation, though there hasn’t been any indication of additional time needed.

Tyler Glasnow – SP Tampa Bay Rays

The fact that this has happened before and that it’s not dehydration is a bit concerning. Hopefully, he and the team can get this under control for future outings.

Jeimer Candelario – 3B Washington Nationals

Candelario should be considered DTD while he rests and recovers.
