Fantrax MLB Injury Report – Brandon Woodruff rehab update

Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Sunday, July 23, 2023. In today’s issue, we see two of the unluckiest players this week get hit by a pitch again. Both Kris Bryant and Adolis Garcia both got hit by a pitch on Wednesday then again yesterday. Also, Brandon Woodruff had a tremendous first rehab outing yesterday, giving hope to his fantasy owners. Finally, the Cardinals lost two players to injury yesterday, but both don’t look to be long-term whatsoever. All that and more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Gabriel Moreno – C Arziona Diamondbacks

Moreno has been suffering from this ailment for a while, and his performance on the field has deteriorated. It’s unclear if he will need extended time off to get himself right.

A.J. Minter – RP Atlanta Braves

Minter last pitched on July 8 and may need the rest of July to rehab before returning to Atlanta.

Max Fried – SP Atlanta Braves

This was a clarification from a previous tweet where Toscano did not explain the part of “at least”. As such, one more rehab outing might not be enough for Fried to return to the Braves.

Andrew Vaughn – 1B/OF Chicago White Sox

Vaughn has a bruise on his foot, and the hope is that it will be better healed in order to allow him to play. The important part here is that it looks like he won’t be going to the Injured List.

Kris Bryant – OF Colorado Rockies

Bryant has now exited games twice this week because of being hit by a pitch. He escaped the last one without needing to go to the Injured List. The hope is that the outcome here is also the same.

CJ Cron – 1B Colorado Rockies

The hope here is that Cron will avoid the Injured List. Stay tuned for updates.

Michael Brantley – OF Houston Astros

This is the third time this season that Brantley has progressed to this point. The previous two times, he got shut down due to continued soreness. Let’s hope that the third time is the charm.

Zach Neto – SS Los Angeles Angels

It looks like Neto won’t play today and will attempt to be back on Tuesday.

Anthony Rendon – 3B Los Angeles Angels

Rendon will be shut down for at least two weeks, which could mean he won’t play at all until September.

Clayton Kershaw – SP Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers continue to take things slowly with Kershaw, as they once again have their offseason plans in the forefront.

Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers

Woodruff looked dominant in this outing, and his velocity seemed there for the most part. Of those 32 pitches thrown, 27 of them were thrown for strikes. Now, what matters most is how he feels after this start. He will need a few more starts before heading back to the Brewers. All that said, this was a very encouraging first step back on the mound.

Nolan Arenado – 3B St. Louis Cardinals

Arenado downplayed this injury and said it was because of the rain delay. Keep an eye on his status for today’s game, but it doesn’t seem to be a serious setback.

Willson Contreras – C St. Louis Cardinals

Contreras himself said that he injured himself while trying to block a pitch early in the game. It doesn’t seem to be that serious, but he could miss a game or two just to be safe,

Adolis Garcia – OF Texas Rangers

Garcia is the second player to get hit by a pitch twice in one week. Luckily, Garcia’s X-rays came back negative as well, but his evaluation will continue. It looked much scarier than it was, but fingers are crossed that he will be okay.

Corey Seager – SS Texas Rangers

The only real news is that Seager will need at least ten days to heal up. There was no word on if the team expects this to be a minimum stay on the Injured List.

Hyun-Jin Ryu – SP Toronto Blue Jays

Ryu will join the team, but there is no word on his role with the team or when he will be a part of it. Keep that in mind for now, but the writing is on the wall for him to get some starts for the Jays.
