Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Thursday, August 25, 2023. In today’s edition, Ozzie Albies may not be back this weekend, as was originally anticipated. Also, Matt Manning injured his back during last night’s masterpiece performance. Finally, Nolan Areando had to be removed from last night’s game due to back tightness. All of that and more are examined below in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report
Ozzie Albies – 2B Atlanta Braves
Ozzie Albies is in San Francisco with the team. He’s progressing, but manager Brian Snitker said Albies returning this weekend probably is not within the realm of possibility.
— Justin Toscano (@JustinCToscano) August 26, 2023
There was some speculation that his return to the Braves would be delayed and this all but confirms it. In the meantime, Vaughn Grissom and Nicky Lopez continue to share playing time.
Félix Bautista – RP Baltimore Orioles
The O’s comeback victory ended on a sour note.

— Orioles on MASN (@masnOrioles) August 26, 2023
Hyde explained that Bautista had arm discomfort and that he was being examined. There should be more updates later today on his status going forward. Either way, he will likely miss the rest of the weekend’s action. Hyde seemed a bit concerned and didn’t downplay the situation.
Jack Flaherty – SP Baltimore Orioles
Hyde confirms Kyle Bradish will start tomorrow. Jack Flaherty is throwing right now. Aaron Hicks is also doing some running. #Orioles
— Byron Kerr (@ByronKerr) August 25, 2023
The hope is that Flaherty can start in a couple of days, but nothing is confirmed.
Boston Red Sox – Team Update
some team updates from Cora:
– still hoping to avoid the IL for Kenley
– Duran seeing a specialist on Monday
– Kluber is playing catch— Gabrielle Starr (@gfstarr1) August 25, 2023
There’s that word “hope” again. From the sounds of it, Jansen won’t be used at all this weekend. As for Duran, he will look toward a specialist in order to determine the cause of the problem and the solution to it. He has had many examinations done and still, the problem exists.
Nick Lodolo – SP Cincinnati Reds
The Reds officially stopped Nick Lodolo's rehab assignment. His setback came on Sunday when he left 2 2/3 innings into a rehab assignment start.
— Mark Sheldon (@m_sheldon) August 25, 2023
This could be a season-ending injury for Lodolo. Stay tuned.
Will Brennan – OF Cleveland Guardians
Will Brennan scratched from lineup with strained right knee after hitting fence on Thursday vs Dodgers
— paul hoynes (@hoynsie) August 25, 2023
Consider Brennan DTD while the team assesses the situation here. The team hasn’t mentioned an Injury List designation as a possibility….yet.
Matt Manning – SP Detroit Tigers
Manning was in the middle of pitching a gem last night when his back flared up. Apparently, he slipped when he threw a pitch which caused his back to act up. He was taken out of the game when he winced while testing out his back. The injury is not considered overly serious at this time and his removal from the game was precautionary.
Nick Pratto – 1B Kansas City Royals
Nick Pratto (left groin strain) had a “minor setback” during his rehab assignment, Matt Quatraro said. He will be reevaluated on Monday in Kansas City to determine next steps. #Royals
— Anne Rogers (@anne__rogers) August 26, 2023
Pratto had gone 3-for15 with nine strikeouts and four walks during his four games in rehab.
Walker Buehler – SP Los Angeles Dodgers
First the good news. Buehler threw up to 20 pitches in a session against hitters with velocity readings a little below his usual. He took what was described as a big step forward. All that being said, this is bad news for redraft owners who were hoping to use Buehler by the end of this season. We are almost in September, and he would need a lengthy rehab assignment before returning. That likely won’t start for another week or two, because, as mentioned here, he will need multiple throwing sessions. This could mean that we are running out of time here.
Trevor Rogers – S Miami Marlins
— Trevor Rogers started playing catch in Jupiter.
— Sixto Sánchez will have a 20-pitch live BP session in Jupiter tomorrow.— Daniel Álvarez-Montes (@DanielAlvarezEE) August 25, 2023
Rogers may not pitch again this season, as he is at the beginning stages of his throwing program.
Sal Frelick – OF Milwaukee Brewers
Sal Frelick isn’t in the lineup tonight. He said the hamstring feels good, but the Brewers just want him to get through a full pregame warmup first. He hopes to be in the lineup tomorrow.
— Curt Hogg (@CyrtHogg) August 25, 2023
It sounds promising that Frelick will be back in the lineup either today or tomorrow. Consider him DTD barring a setback.
Joe Ryan – SP Minnesota Twins
The Twins have announced Joe Ryan as tomorrow night's starter.
— Betsy Helfand (@betsyhelfand) August 25, 2023
Be prepared.
Mark Vientos – 3B New York Mets
Mark Vientos, we missed you #SwaggyV pic.twitter.com/w6bn7yNx2o
— Syracuse Mets (@SyracuseMets) August 25, 2023
Vientos started a rehab assignment last night and played third base. He finished 2-for-4 with a double and looked good.
Starling Marte – OF New York Mets
With the youthful direction of the Mets, it would be wise to keep Marte out until he’s 100% certain he can play at a high level. For now, the team should let the young players get all of the experience and development they can. He may not play again this season.
Josh Donaldson – 3B New York Yankees, Anthony Rizzo – 1B New York Yankees
Aaron Boone said Josh Donaldson is working towards a potential rehab assignment.
Boone also said Anthony Rizzo could start seeing live pitching in the coming days.
— Chris Kirschner (@ChrisKirschner) August 25, 2023
Donaldson could return to the Yankees by the end of the season, but likely as a bench bat and not a starter. As for Rizzo, it’s great news to see him developing in the way that he is. Fingers crossed that he returns by the season’s end.
San Francisco Giants – Team Update
Giants say it’s a Grade 2 strain for Conforto, so this likely will be a longer stay on IL. It happened in Wednesday’s game. Haniger is rehabbing in AAA this weekend, Yaz will test his hamstring on the bases today.
— Alex Pavlovic (@PavlovicNBCS) August 25, 2023
The Giants’ outfield is a work in progress. Michael Conforto’s hamstring strain is not a minor ordeal, so a minimum of a multiple-week absence is likely. Mike Yastrzemski will run the bases in the hopes of returning from his hamstring strain that kept him out of action throughout all of August. As for Mitch Haniger, he began a rehab assignment earlier in the week and has yet to record a hit in eleven at-bats.
Jarred Kelenic – OF Seattle Mariners
Jarred Kelenic will report to Tacoma next week.
— Ryan Divish (@RyanDivish) August 25, 2023
This is good news as Kelenic could return in the middle of September.
Nolan Arenado – 3B St.Louis Cardinals
INJURY UPDATE: Nolan Arenado exited tonight's game with lower back tightness.
— St. Louis Cardinals (@Cardinals) August 26, 2023
There wasn’t much else regarding this injury, so expect some updates later today regarding his status going forward. Chances are that he misses today’s game at the very least.
Taylor Walls – SS Tampa Bay Rays
Saw #Rays Taylor Walls (oblique) pregame, who's itching to return. "I'm bored," he joked in the dugout, with a smile. He's getting closer. Looked comfortable in an on-field workout yesterday.
👉🏻 The plan is for him to take live BP on Sunday, he'll have an off day Monday and…
— Ryan Bass (@Ry_Bass) August 25, 2023
With Walls returning soon, it remains to be seen how he’ll fit into the current state of the Rays’ infield without Wander Franco. He may just remain on the bench in a reserve role.
