Fantrax MLB Injury Report – Shohei is going to be okay

Here is the Fantrax Injury Report for Friday, July 28, 2023. In today’s edition, the return of Aaron Judge is imminent, as he looks ready to rejoin the Yankees during the last stretch of the season. Also, there really shouldn’t be too much to worry about with Shohei Ohtani, as he had himself an incredible day on the field yesterday, and was likely very tired. Finally, the Rays and Zach Eflin got great news, as he looks to be on track to make his next start. That and so much more in today’s Injury Report from Fantrax.

MLB Injury Report

Noah Syndergaard – SP Cleveland Guardians

Syndergaard will return from his blister injury this Monday and make his debut for the Guardians against the Astros. He was just traded to Cleveland and will try to make the second half of his season better than his disastrous first half.

Shohei Ohtani – SP/DH Los Angeles Angels

Ohtani exited the second game of the team’s doubleheader with cramping, but he’s expected to be okay. He had just finished the day by pitching a complete game shutout in the first game and then hitting two home runs in the second game. He is only human, after all, and he does get tired and cramps. There should be no worries about his status going forward.

Brandon Drury – INF Los Angeles Angels

Drury has been out of action for almost two months. He also faced live pitching too, which leads one to believe that he’s getting even closer to a return now. It was previously believed that he’d need only a few more days to get back, but it seems like he’ll need more.

Ben Joyce – RP Los Angeles Angels

As a result of this move, Joyce will not be able to return until the middle of August. There has been no indication as to whether or not that would even be an option at that time.

Avisail Garcia – OF Miami Marlins

Since joining Triple-A Jacksonville, Garcia has gone 3-for-7 with one home run and looks almost ready to return to the Marlins. With Jesus Sanchez possibly heading to the Injured List, the timing looks to be aligned for the Marlins.

Brandon Woodruff – SP Milwaukee Brewers

Woodruff felt great after yesterday’s stellar performance. He said here that if he can pitch five innings in his next rehab outing and feels great, he’ll push for a return to Milwaukee. That said, he’ll listen to the team who may want to see more out of him. In yesterday’s outing, he went four innings while surrendering four hits and one run, while striking out three with no walks.

Brian Anderson – 3B/OF

Anderson has progressed to taking ground balls, but he has yet to swing a bat, as his back has not yet allowed him to do so.

Starling Marte – OF New York Mets, Tommy Pham – OF New York Mets

Marte’s migraines have seemingly returned, and with him also welcoming a baby into the world, it would appear that he won’t be back for at least another week. Stay tuned. As for Pham, it looks like his return is imminent, and that he’ll be back for the team’s game later today.

Edwin Diaz – RP New York Mets

Diaz just recently started playing catch and was cleared to throw from 150 feet. He continues to hold out hope of returning this season. Given the state of the Mets right now, the team may not want to push him back early, as they may not be in the playoff hunt at all.

Aaron Judge – OF New York Mets

Judge is seemingly on track to return today to the Yankees. He has been running the bases, swinging, and doing everything asked of him. He has avoided any rehab assignments and hasn’t been in a game since June 3. All that being said, be prepared to activate him into your starting lineups immediately.

Willson Contreras – C St. Louis Cardinals

It would appear (for now) that Contreras has avoided any concussions and will not need to go to the Injured List. He is likely to miss a handful of games while he recovers from this scary incident. It wouldn’t be surprising if he sat out the entire weekend series.

St. Louis Cardinals – Team Update

Edman has been on the Injured List since just before the All-Star Break with a wrist injury. He will begin his rehab assignment this weekend and the hope is that he won’t need much time to get back into the Cardinals’ lineup. As for the three relief pitchers listed, all three players will throw over the weekend to help them return within their respective timelines. Of the three, Helsely has received the most trade interest from other teams, and it remains to be seen if he’s still in St. Louis after the deadline.

Zach Eflin – SP Tampa Bay Rays

This is great news for Eflin and for fantasy owners everywhere. It looks like he will make his next start and help the Rays get back on track.
